  1. just purchased a Canon EOS 450d digital SLR camera with the twin lens kit and all the bells & whistles, anyone used or own this model? be interested in any comments or tips p.s i told the missus it for all occasions not just for the car or any annual club meets that might be approaching :D

This camera is a beaut for a entry level in the canon edition, had one as a spare for my 40d and I usually carried this around only because it was lighter lol.

My tip is just shoot away as many picture as you can to get use to all the modes :D

In my opinion this matches up to a Nikon D80 or better for its pricing, good choice plus its made in Japan not Thailand for what your spending! my 2c.

thanks for the reply mate.my choices were the PENTAX K20,CANON EOS450D,NIKON D90, i tried to workout the best bang for my buck and hopefully i made the right choice.im very happy so far with it and the made in japan(body & lenses)was the deal sealer,it was offered with a sigma lens kit but i chose the japanese canon lenses instead, being a beginner i hope i made the right choice.p.s im taken photos of everything & anything at the moment driving everyone nutz.

  2. Well the spambot ain't the smartest thing around. Though mbruce seems to think that it is copying post from others, so I wonder who originally asked the question in this case.

The questions come from other forums. For example...

Dumbazz spambots they might actually get a few bites if there questions and requests were not so farking ridiculous. How do we stop these idiots launching spambots onto our forum,i would chip with the rest of the members to pay some P.C NERD to sit at home on his souped up computer on search & destroy missions on anything untoward our forum or website. ;)

  5. Howdy all, I thought I better dust the "cobwebs" off my TOCAU account and get in on the action (resident Auscam.org member here, have been slack on the TOCAU front!!); I live in Bendigo, VIC so it would be madness to miss out on all the fun.

Count me in for the Saturday stuff as well as the cruise on Sunday - I'm driving an '06 Aurora Gold Camry Sportivo (manual trans :D) since the end of Feb (no more Gen 3 cam) so would love to join in the photo opp's. I'm not sure about accommodation as yet, I have an aunt in Airport West but am thinking it'll be easier to stay in town with you all, plus I'm still trying to rope in a mate from Auscam to come over from Adelaide. Do you need to know about accommodation by any certain date as yet?

I better go hunting for a CB radio/handheld heheheh Oh and did anyone answer whether an e-tag for the weekend was necessary??

    - Tash

    hi tash!!!

    awesome your joining us!!!

im not sure if we need tags. are the motorways in melbourne cashless? if so then we will bring ours.

i wonder if we can bring it on the plane? hmmmmmmmmmmm i wonder if the metal detectors will go crazy...........hehhee

    geeze im soooooooooooo excited now!!

yeah ya NSW e-tags work down here and vice versa, not sure about other states?or are we the only suckers with toll roads in oz?

  6. check this... its an electric wrench that plugs into the cigarette lighter.

    EBAY LINK HERE.

anyone used these before? i think hot4s was offering these free with a 12 month perscription.

    jase.

if it will do wheel nuts inc 4wd & light commercial it might be ok,but how long will that little cheap a$$ 12v motor last?if its not to exspensive might worth stashin one in the boot for emergencies.

  7. Hi everyone! I have a 1994 Camry CSi 2.2 litre manual that i bought in July last year as a runaround car for $2500. Turns out to be the best car i have ever bought! I also own a 1968 VE Valiant thats in nice original condition.

    Cheers

    SteVE

Welcome to the forum mate :yahoo:

  8. Hi All,

I'm new to this forum. Just thought I'd say g'day from Adelaide. I drive a late 1997 MCV20 Toyota Camry CSI 3.0 V6 =) It's a good and reliable car, but has quite a few k's on the clock (just over 270 000).

I've finally found some Toyota petrol heads like me =)

    Igor

Welcome mate, love Adelaide was there at christmas visiting the wineries and the inlaws. (the wineries were better)

  9. Hi guys,

  10. Similar to random entry threads such as Word Association and Million number countdown.

Please post the tune you are listening to at this exact moment. Not what you heard yesterday, or what you think is a good song...

Song that is being played as you are posting in this thread -

    I'll kick things off, obviously...

"Soldiers of the Wasteland" - Dragonforce

Kid Rock-Rockin Roll Jesus (getting into the easter spirit)

  11. Assuming the wiring is similar to that of the US model Camry, the toyota wiring diagrams show the audio and display controls are seperate but they share the same ground. This ground is provided by the 20 pin connector at the head unit (pin 6). So if the 20 pin connector is disconnected from the factory head unit and not reconnected by some othe method the DISP button will fail to function. Guess the easy fix is just to wire pin 6 to ground.

This is also exactly the same as the Kluger. Pin 6 is connected to ground if using the SWI-JACK, so no functionality is lost.

It also seems a bit odd to me that Toyota would use CAN only in Australia for the steering wheel buttons. I have not seen a reference to it being used anywhere else. Unless anyone has the wiring diagrams to prove otherwise, you should assume that the Arion is using a resistor network connected directly to the HU like other Toyotas.

As the Aurion circuit is probably the same as the Kluger circuit, if anyone wants to send me the wiring diagrams, I will post the circuit for the modification; I should only need to change connector names and remove company logos/details, so it won't take me long.

This is an offer for a limited time. If everyone keeps posting reasons why it can't be done, I probably won't care either. If thats the case, you can always ask me to do it through my business some time in the future, but I don't know if you guys would like my hourly rates.

Mikey, will call toyota for diagram after EASTER,hopefully they can just e-mail it to me or i will call into a dealer and p/up one, will try and get it to you ASAP. thanks for your advise and offer of help, very much appreciated :D

  12. THREE people have had a lucky escape after their car demolished a street sign and hit a sandstone fence in Bondi Junction today.

The crash happened around 1am just past the intersection of Old South Head Rd and Victoria Rd.

Skid marks were visible for over 30 metres leading to the crash site and the noise woke residents as far as two streets away.

By chance, an ambulance drove past the accident just seconds after it happened and immediately worked to pull the passengers from the mangled Toyota Aurion.

One male passenger was taken to hospital while another female passenger had to be removed from the car through the driver's side window.

The driver was unharmed and was breath-tested at the scene and taken into custody.

 im glad it wasnt a fatal, the driver if drunk should be dealt with harshly, anyway i wonder if theres anything left to salvage off the wreck? not many broken Aurions around to pinch parts off.

  13. new rotors and pads shouldnt be bedded in together because of the resin the brake news pads expel. new pads will have more than worn in pads, and will saturate the contact surface of the new rotors with the resin. that creates an uneven surface and thus excess stress and friction on some parts = rotor warping. so basically you would be back to square one with buggered rotors!

Great info guys,im waiting for a set of DBA4000 slotted rotors frt & rear, fronts available now rears due out of production(so ive been told)next week in SYDNEY and was only thinking i heard somewhere before try and bed them in seperatley, but this completly slipped my mind until i read this now, i can just fit the rotors 1st with old pads and then throw the new pads on later, how long does it take on average before the rotors are bed in so i can fit new pads? thanks.

  14. a car can only be sold if it has passed a rwc, as its required for the rego transfer. so chances are you've got a dud rwc, which is quite common.

as the others have said, it will probably be a part of your statutory warranty (if its from a dealer), so you should be entitled to get it fully repaired/replaced. if the car would only be under the balance of any extended warranty, make sure its in your name as they wont accept the claim otherwise.

dud rwc?! damn... i was hoping going to a proper toyota dealer i would not run into such risks...

gona be losing sleep over this... how would i ever find out if they sold me a dodgy car? last thing i need is try to sell my car few years down the track to only find out its not road worthy at all.

its only over 2 years old... but you can never be too sure?

what a bummer,ya can always pay i think its around $75-$80 and get ya own roadworthy done, just need to find an established workshop(that does RWC) and tell him ya drama and he might find out whats been done or not done to pass roadworthy,i would only do this if they(your dealer) is not willing to fix these under wty.you do have options so dont lose to much sleep, as it was stated before you must have a RWC to sell a registerd vehicle so the seller & workshop that performed RWC are liable.anyway good luck with it all.

  15. It sounds like you guys give up too easily.

No one has looked at the wiring diagrams, but everyone has assumed there is no way to do this.

I have already looked at the wiring diagrams for the Aurion and even done measurements both voltage and logic (TTL/CMOS). The display button requires a digital circuit to process it's command and it is not as simple as just connecting wires. There is no guarantee as well than some aftermarket solution will be compatible with the digital signals required. I don't make assumptions. When it comes to things like this, I prefer to DIY. Unless you are good with reverse engineering the PCB in the stock stereo, then looking at the wiring diagram for the Aurion isn't going to help in this scenario.

I am 99% sure it's CAN, so wiring will be of no use to you.

And that's the conclusion I came to. The controls on the Aurion do use the CAN bus and it is something that I am not willing to spend time on trying to decipher.

I am 99% sure it's CAN, so wiring will be of no use to you.

Hey Random,my installer mate was banging on about CAN bus electrical system in the Aurion, but i have limited knowledge on this, can you dumb it down(main difference to other electrical systems) for me so maybe ive got some understanding. thanks

CAN bus communication is twisted pair digital communication. Just think of it as a LAN within your car communicating with various ECU's.

now thats dumbed down, thanks mate your a wealth of knowledge.

Hey thanks man,i will pass this information on(installer),im sure if it could be done(without a reverse engineering degree) someone on this forum including your capable self would have worked it out by now. :( :( :( :( :( :( :(

  17. thats actually a good point there. i might just pop down to toyota and try and grab a diagram of their wirings etc and maybe i could send to you so you could have a look for me? plus it'll help out the rest of the aurion boys.

  18. Do I need to get my tail lamp covers checked if I find mist on the inside of the covers?

It also seem as if this is causing a slight yellow tinge to the insides... anyway I can DIY by removing and giving it a good clean? not sure what to use for plastics though.

    Thanks...

if its still under warranty go see a dealer, they should fix em or replace em.

Yeah it still is... will bring it back then.

Btw, i'm expecting them to repair something on my car doors since its still under warranty... what are the chances of them backing out and saying they cannot do anything about it and if that happens (knowing how dodgy some second hand car sales people are) what are my options?

if the inside of tailaights are damp its normally a sealing(outer casing or globe socket)problem or you might find a small crack if ya look real hard other than that they should be sealed and water tight, i would play dumb to the dealer and hope all gets fixed or replaced, worst case try and find them at the wreckers or even better BRAND NEW, hmmm gotta love new lights so bright and shiny.anyway good luck with it all :D

  20. thanks for the feedback guys :D

Simply all ive done so far is:

*change the manifold as i split it

    *hubcaps

    *seat covers

*changed the cassette player to a sony cd player

    *TRD seatbelt rests (thx dav0)

*last week installed red festoon LED's for the interior and boot.

Possible ideas for mods to come if i don't buy another car:

    1.get rims with bigger tyres

    2.install speakers

    3.headlights

any ideas on mods or wheels to get would be appreciated

very clean & tidy, needs to be lowered when wheels & tyres are fitted to give it a good stance. B)
