  1. So, I just called the local toyota dealer to inquire about it's price tag of the racks for RAV4 with rails, and the guy quotes me AUD335.7 for them!!! HUH - what happened here, April 2009 they were selling for an RRP AUD170.00 according to Toyota's website, and at the dealer for AUD160.00!!! Am I missing something? or hasn't the dollar appreciated enough to lower its price...
  2. Am looking to pick up a set for a Rav4 2007 onwards that already has rails. Cheers,
  3. Thanks for that. Just won myself a bet that the Forrester was more popular than Rav4 which is then followed by the Tuscon and X-Trail. :D :)
  4. Could you post the figures for the compact SUVs,,,or details on the RAV4!! - I'm crossing my fingers that it's been popular!
  5. Have a strange but similar problem to yours, - checked it with the toyota service centre when I dropped in for service. The sensors in the car, are always beeping,,,- regardless whether there was anything behind or not,,,but thankfully when reversing, and approaching an object, the beeping increases. Still a pain that they beep always. The guys at the service centre tell me it could be either a sensitivity setting for them, or that simply the sensors are pointing to the road, and not horizontal (at a 90degree angle to it), so as to detect the vehicle behind. See attached photo. Service centre tells me there could be a piece of plastic (fitting) to add to the sensor to adjust them, pointing straight horizontal...

    I'm furious !!!

    Thanks fellas for the moral support. The guy at the service centre checked the tire - the ******* stabbed it with a screw-driver and with it being to the side renders it unfixable (illegal to fix). cost to replace the tire - $320, - there goes..................

    I'm furious !!!

    Well, a couple of months back, I was asking about Alarms, - afraid of some kids or otherwise of trying to steal the car....- and did end up installing an alarm for its protection from theft. Now, as much as that is a deterrent, I'm wondering is there anyway to protect it from malice, and vandalism - In the last month, - the backseat passenger window had fine sand thrown at it with strength enough to mark the whole thing, - that when you're sitting there looking outside - all you see are tiny spots - about 30 or so of them. - can these be repaired - how! would it cost an arm and a leg! But most recently, - this morning I walk to the car to find a flat tyre - without any punctures - I replace it and take it across to the gas station for a quick pump, only to find that it's been cut (close to the rim) at the top part with a knife - blade or something, - that it deflates immediately fast - straight through when it was pumped. Is there a motion sensor alarm system that if you approach the car, - it'll zap the crap out of you, - with a sign appearing all across the car, - reading "walk away for your own safety or face immediate electrocution to your death you sad ******!" It seems that owning a car in sydney has a lot of negatives - aside from the city-rangers with their profiteering parking-rule antics of the city and if your residing in an apartment building constructed after May 1996 - you are not eligible for a parking permit - you also face the wrath of the bum-idiots-never-been-raised-with-a-brain people that have fun of damaging people's cars! WT is the logic! any bad experiences that can pale mine so far?? first car, semi-new-car, - damn sad for it... venting

    Towing with the V6

    Wondering - how much does it cost for a towbar and its installation - can anyone shed some light...
  9. Quick update - June 5.87 km / litre 17.04 litre / 100Km -> BP95Ron mostly city driving, 33PSI wheels 6.48 km / litre 15.43 litre / 100Km -> BP95Ron mostly city driving, 33PSI wheels, - tapping the accelerator. July 7.31 km / litre 13.69 litre / 100Km -> 91Ron mostly city driving, 36PSI wheels, - normal driving. 8.33 km / litre 12.01 litre / 100Km -> 91Ron mostly city driving, 36PSI wheels, - normal driving. 10.11 km / litre 9.89 litre / 100Km -> 91Ron mostly highways, 36PSI wheels, - normal driving. 10.00 km / litre 9.99 litre / 100Km -> 91Ron both, 36PSI wheels, - normal driving. Finally - a happy driver with its consumption..... B) Thanks to Bruster
  10. If you see a silver ZR6 driving with all cars passing by - that'd probably be me! - I'll keep an eye out as well for the other ZR6 on the highway. I'll post the stats when I get back...
  11. A quick update on stats - so I corrected the way I step on the accelerator - gently - and just tapping keeping the revs less than 2000 generally, that improved economy to 7.30km / litre -> 13.69 litre /100Km. - 10 days ago, I checked the tires pressure, all four were 33psi !!! I adjusted them to 36psi as per Bruster's recommendation, - and that made a good change as well, - now it's upto 8.32Km/litre --> 12.01 litres / 100Km - a statistic that I'm very happy with so far. Ohh, I also switched to regular unleaded 91Ron - the car lost the punch from BP 95, but at least its economical, and I'm less likely to hit a car while parking B) Will be going for a drive to Canberra over the weekend - crossing my fingers for better economy on the drive.
  12. Tigz, for a few months after purchasing my ZR6, I drove it extremely hard - screeching off at the lights and accelerating real hard when overtaking - I was seeing figures like yours. The RAV6 will just eat up the gas when driven hard. -- hmmmm, I'll try to ease on the pedal, and see how it goes - will also check the tyre pressure. I'm not into speeding or any of that - the only thing that ever happens with me that could consume more than normal, - sometimes at traffic lights when starting to move, I step a little more on the gas, and it jumps, then I ease it immediately. - it's a 4 out of 10 times occurrence. But definitely driving so much in the CBD, has too many stops / starts that driving the car is no-fun-at-all. The car doesn't even leave the city to enjoy some driving.... will post some updates over the next month or so,,,to compare if anyone else keeps track of this! It's still a money saver - cheaper than public transport, exclude the parking cost....
  13. Living in sydney - city areas and driving a V6, - turns it into a fuel guzzler.... 27.5 litres drove 161.5Km = 5.87Km per litre, => 17 litres / 100K, - that's with a BP 95Ron I wonder what stats are out there? - do I have a heavy foot on the pedal....
  14. So far been super happy with the ZR6 model that I picked up a few weeks back, though recently been a bit surprised with its height / clearance off the ground. Just before I take out a measuring tape, and go outside to measure its height and ground clearance, what are your thoughts on this. The other day at a traffic light, a rav4 Cruiser parks next to me, and I find it higher than the ZR6. I'm looking up towards the guy's car - huh - I thought they all had the same height unless a person goes to raise it - anyone out there with a ZR6 noticed this before? Then earlier today, parked behind a Mazda CX-7 (luxury), I'm seeing it to be bigger and more buff than the ZR6 - huh - huh - huh!!! What do you think - does it make sense!!! I thought RAV4 was the one to rule.
  15. I have a camera & sensor kit fitted, hardly use the camera, but the sensor beeps are useful in tight spots. The rear bumper on my 08 upgrade model is not flat and vertical but like a tilted figure 7, so the installation guys couldn't fit the 2 central sensors as they would constantly detect the ground. Maybe that's your problem?! I finally do away only 2 sensors on the outside -> could miss something small directly behind the car (like a pole). A bit annoying with the rear bumper "upgrade". Anyone has a solution? Makes a bit of sense, - my ravii is the upgrade 08, (with the face-lift),,,I'll check with the dealer on these sensors / direction when I take it in for maintenance. I mean, with all the beeps that happen, I'm simply paying extra attention to them, - so far, no bumps into anything thankfully.
  16. Speed reading is actually spot on, - similar to the GPS speed reading, - which are both approx 5K less than the speedometer that seems to have a margin of error, (reading 60Km when I'm driving 55Km, and so on). Finally I know why other cars are always passing me!!! Found a good thread in the Kluger forums addressing this, - something we all have to live with. Still haven't managed to get the fuel-economy etc reading working right, - I still need to read the manual - fill up configure it - fill up - configure it a couple of times for it to work right. The greatest pain with having the scangauge, is the constant unplug & put away everytime I park the car so as not to encourage idiots to break the window & steal it!!! Actually, - has anyone heard of a theft of a trip-computer? - breaking the glass to steal it
  17. All they seem to do is annoy me - they just beep and beep whether there was something behind the vehicle (curb / car / pole / anything) or nothing. I only stop when it constantly beeps. Whats your experience with them? Has anyone installed a reverse camera - does it come with infra-red - night thing!!! What's that like, better than the sensors? - I can reverse the vehicle fine without the sensors, but parking in the city is a nightmare if you don't have some sort of assistance, the spots are just a fit.
  18. I so completely agree with you in regards to what the Kluger presents. However, the RAV4 V6 is a must for those that don't need the features that Kluger presents, while they're unsatisfied with the Rav4 V4 performance, and they believe that looking at other SUVs in the same category of the RAV4 would be disappointed. Seriously, I would only consider replacing the Rav with an X3 or Q5, - the rest are not even in my radar after visiting their dealers and seeing them, they dropped too fast. Value of the 200KW is in the "power" to move the vehicle and passengers with a touch of the accelerator. Kluger is about 500Kg more than that Rav4 with a similar engine if not the same, but still capable of carrying its weight. ;)
  19. I'm a new V6 owner, so I'm still learning. Drove up from Melbourne to Sydney and made sure to fill up always with 95Ron, the car would jump when I'd depress the accelerator, it was beautiful. Arrived in Sydney and filled up with Shell E10, and the car would no longer jump, would step a little more on the accelerator with it to get it moving. - Is this normal? I've just went to fill it up again, - and found Shell gas station, Mobil gas station do not have 95Ron, they only had E10 / 91Ron and 98Ron, - ended up going for a drive till I got to BP to fill up there with 95. Whats your preference for your V6? or V4, and experience with them,
  20. Its also good for carting friends with you when you're going for a road trip!
  21. I would think the Kluger actually caters for a different target group than that of the RAV4. It seems the RAV4 is mainly for the singles or those couples with at most a single child, while all the Klugers that I have seen roaming the streets of sydney have had a family man with a couple of kids in the back, or the wife with a couple of kids in the back. I think the RAV4 would seem a bit small for them. I'm perfectly happy with the RAV4 and think it's an excellent car. Kluger should be skipped for a mighty Prado, but then again Toyota knows that out there are families that find the RAV4 maybe a bit small, and the Prado a bit expensive, so, a Kluger is just about right.
  22. Hi all I have had the ScanGauge II installed onto my 2009 RAV4, and previously on my 2007 model. Very informative information displayed eg Tank L/100km , Current trip L/100Km, Instaltaneous L/100Km, & distance to empty. All the above info is displayed on the one screen, & at the same time. Well, just hooked it up today. It's got a reading from the OBDII port, but I still need to configure it. - the speed reading on it, was a bit off earlier when I went for a drive, - have to do more manual reading. Will report back on it in the next two days, - looks like a promising gizmo. <_<
  23. Can somebody please check the size of the disc, - how many Gigs is it? v.15 that is.... cheers,

    Alarm

    True-true. Gets me thinking, do you have an alarm installed? - do you guys think it's worth spending the extra 500 to get an alarm installed... if so what do you recommend
  25. Tigz

    Alarm

    I'm perplexed, - why does the RAV4 come with an immobilizer but not an alarm, and there's no genuine alarm by toyota for it! - Somebody breaks into the car to open up the glove compartments etc, trying his luck, - why can't there be an alarm!!! Do you think the immobilizer suffices for the safety of the car?
