  1. gday guys,

my car's steering wheel sometimes shakes when i slow down and brake. What could cause this problem?? steering wheel doesnt stay straight when driving in a straight line on freeways at high speeds, tends to move to left a little bit. what could cause this problem??

    all the best,

    lauschie

    hi lauschie

the shaking you are refering to is brake shutter and is caused by your brake disc's being slightly warpped (the surface of the disc is not flat), they will need to be machined if you want the shaking to go away, i suggest you get your disc's machined when you get new brakes put in.

and in terms of your steering wheel not being straight when driving, the roads are slopping to the left slighty to enable water to run to the kerb drains when it rains and so forth so that would be why it slops to the left, if you really are concern about it and think it's not the road you can get a wheel alignment.

  2. Yeah, my lights dim if I try and close a window that is already closed. Don't know if it is normal, guess I'll find out with you.

likewise, sometimes at night while i have my driving lights onand im stuck in traffic I check to see if my windows are all properly closed, it dims as i push the buttons to check the windows. however my console lights and so forth does not dim to my knowledge.

  3. You got off pretty lightly accident wise....

Did anyone watch the news last night???

See what happened with that little girl thats in intensive care because a 2kg block of concrete went straight through her mums car and hit her???

    You were extremely lucky!!!

Yeah that was a shocking story, but i agree with NIKICH you were very lucky.

  4. please don't use tap water this can cause corrison. i would suggest you go out and buy some distilled water and top it up with that, that is of course if it only that you need to top up, if it's a fair bit go and get some coolant, use genuine or red coolant. if you get geniune toyota coolant you will need to mix that with distilled water also. 1:1 ratio.

  5. on the sportivo from memory it is below the trottle body, it is a 10mm allen key screw/nut, to refill or top it up you will need a funnel, i used a fexible funnel the one you can grab for like $2 at supercheap auto. and the drain nut is easier to see when your under the car.

oh another thing the only indication you have really that you have filled in enough gearbox oil is when it over flows from the filler hole (oil no longer flows into the hole and remains in the funnel), or you can stick you pinky in the hole and if you can feel oil the level should be ok.

  6. I'm after some good blubs also, for both driving and foggy lights as driving visibility at night and especially in the rain is horrific these days. would like them pure white also if possible. Don't mind paying extra money as long as they last, the cheaper brands don't seem to last very long.

  7. man thats a tight fit, i'd hate to be working on that car if something goes wrong. not saying something will go wrong but if something does go wrong it will be very difficult to work with.

that said i'm also interested to see how it turns out and wouldn't mind seeing it in action either.

best of luck to the bloke though.

  8. When I had my whiteline springs installed, the installer cut the bump stops without me telling him to. I guess he does that with all installations of lowered springs.

Do you know whether the installer cut both front and rear bump stops? and do you know how much of it did the installer cut off?

Yep, he cut off both front and rear, about 1/3 off the bumpstop.

thanks for the response. and thanks everyone else.

  9. If my bump stop was not cut, I would've been riding on the bump stop because previously i had ghetto low spring. Yes it still hit the bump, but who am I to complain.

At your ride height it's understandable, but is it really necessary for someone with 35mm drop ???

if you have short stroke struts and lowered springs, you need shortened bump stops to allow for the appropriate amount of travel.

Maybe Northy should offer his expert advise :P

...I can hear it now... "get cusco's cause they're the best..."

    muahahah

    whats short stroke struts?

Struts specifically for shorter travel/height springs

Guess thats what i would like opinions on is it really nessary to trim the bumpstops for a 35mm drop? and if so how much should i trim off as i will be changing the springs myself.

I believe they are struts what are suited to your lowered springs. Correct me if i'm wrong.

once again keep the opinions/facts coming and thanks for the replies.
