Dude - you've listed ZZE122 twice - once as 1600cc sedan and once as 1800cc hatch.

  2. Half of the pump cost is federal tax/excise, and then the infamous "tax on a tax" which is the GST (this apparently is sent to the states).

So even at $75 per barrel = 35 cents per litre, you need to then add refining costs, storage and transport. Then the taxes double the cost. Then the petrol stations add about 4 cents per litre (which is rarely profit, they often subsidise petrol costs through high priced food and drink items). But still the oil company costs must equal up to 50 cents per litre to make everything balance - this seems a bit unlikely to me.

Anyway, when all's said and done petrol costs in Australia are like the 4th cheapest of any country in the world, so yes we are paying more but on a global scale we still have it pretty good. My advice - buy a petrol tanker and start thinking about living Mad Max style.

  3. Don't forget that Hyundai offer a full 5 year warranty across the range - compared with Toyota's pissy 3 years. They wouldn't be able to do this without a quality product.

My wife has a 2001 Elantra, and it's a great package for 20K (the new upspec models have even more torque and optional leather). As opposed to me 'ol mum's previous Excel, the quality of the Elantra is at another level, and I have no problem with the weight or feel of the doors, seats or anything else. It's no sporty runabout, but how many of your wives or gf's are out looking for runs late at night? Mine's certainly not - she's more interested in the radio working and the seats being comfortable than whether or not the car has ABS.

Anyway, that car looks awesome for a 3 door and if produced, I would imagine it would be squarely in the Sportivo's ballpark at 30-35K. Hell, if they make it a 4wd I'll sign up now...

  4. I've seen it written in the Advertiser motoring section recently that it is illegal for monitors visible by the driver to display "entertainment" whilst the vehicle is moving. This is why sat nav systems are legal, and cars with front/console mounted screens (eg. import Lexus/Soarers) are roadworthy - it's just the use while moving that is not legal.

I would imagine the same applies to visor screens, but if you are looking at your visor while driving then you probabaly deserve to die anyway. Try not to take anyone with you...

  5. 2050 $ with aami for me..to much ? of course but im 18. i can drive a car worth 500 bux and still pay 2 gz for insurance full comp

Can't you just ship some more pounds? :)

I'm with AAMI, all mods listed and pay $550. I love Adelaide.

  6. No it can't be done.

Firstly the 1zz has a longer stroke and smaller bore, meaning if you get this block to rev out to 8,000rpm, the piston velocity is too much for the crank to bare.  The shorter stroke of the 2zz allows it to rev higher.

The 2zz block also has additional oil jets for better lubrication and cooling at high revs.

Lastly fitting a 2zz head to a 1zz block, it doesn't quite line up 100% in a similar fashion to trying to fitting a 4age head to a 4afe block, it was never designed to be interchangeable.

Similar engines but still very different.

I thought the 3ZZ stroker kit was the 1zz crank fitted to our engine...?

  7. The only reason I know this is because in the magna ralliart they had to put an extra baffle in the fuel tank to stop the mysterious fuel cutout at 0.8G's+

That reminds me - somewhere I have a video I took of a Mitsubishi employee sponsored by his company with a free Ralliart Magna fanging around on a motorkhana track. For a big car it's very agile...

  8. The C series gearboxes are interchangeable for all I know, having been used for many a Corolla model.

The main requirement for engine work would be the 2ZZ head, with the speccy cams, valves and springs needed to rev beyond 6K. I'm not sure the standard engine would cope with the 12:1 CR without mods.

There are bottom end differences also - the windage tray for one thing, although this is just a nice bonus that keeps the oil where you want it and not pushing up the sides of the block (how many lateral G's do they think Sportivo owners are pulling, anyhow?).

  9. Now, assuming that we're all familiar with the power and torque curves. i will now say this, torque is what gets you off the line, power is what propells you once rolling. (hence peak torque is usually around half of your engine's total revs, similarly, peak power near the "peak" hence the "high-end")

Maybe off topic, but rotational physics defines power (hp, kW or ps, depending on your fancy) as torque x rpm.

There are certain limitations, such as valave float or airflow restriction at high rpm that limits power, but it can therefore be seen why power tends to increase with revs even though torque may be relatively flat.

  10. Errr, lift engages at 6000rpm. It might seem like 6200rpm as the needle is rising rapidly at that point, particularly in 1st and 2nd gear.

Welcome, and did I pull up next to you about 18 months ago on North Tce (I have a silver Sportivo). If you are that guy, you asked me whether I'd ever had a problem with shifting gears, which is another story...

Anyway, my exhaust is stock and I've never had any problems with hesitation or lift - EXCEPT for when I removed the trumpet fromthe top of the stock airbox. This presumably made the airflow turbulent over the MAF sensor and made the engine behave very badly. Could be a similar issue in your car - have you got the original airbox or recall airbox + ECU ? Any mods to your intake?
