  1. Ok so I have spent about a week calling up places with only Capalaba wreckers having zze122s available. As i live on the north side, driving down to Capalaba is pretty inconvenient. I was just wondering for a last ditch attempt if any forum members have a normal sway bar they are willing to sell me (p.s should probs put this in the wanted/ for sale category ;))

btw jstchln thanks for your comment about the sway bar let’s hope with normal suspension there’s a bit of a noticeable difference ;P

Super Dave that’s a fair comment but i thought aftermarket suspension manufactures would spend allot more time manufacturing a product perfect for the car with no cost cutting.

My opinion is that car companies like Toyota just do cheap jobs good enough for the job to make so the car is more affordable where as aftermarket shops go all out. Just my humble opinion :) .

  2. my first ride was an 03 levin, then someone ran into the back of it at 60 kmh and then my car went into the car in front of me

despite being completely ridden off, i would never buy a car without at least a 4 star safety rating as that levin had cause it held up so well during the crash

now im a ZZE123R owner and love LIFT

Just a quick question sorry its a little off topic but I was just wondering, was the Levin allot more easy as a daily driver due to the lower down torque or was it not really noticeable. and did the car still feel relatively quick (according to mags there quicker than you think)

I was thinking you would be able to best answer this as you have owned both a Levin and a Sportivo ;)

  3. True well i double checked it today and it is 19mm so ill give those 2 wreckers that you guys said a call and see if they have any.

By the looks of it im the gunnie pig as not many people have done it by the looks :P

by the way cme-lift that is a bloody good point about the aftermarket swaybars being welded at each end where as standard ones are on a coupling thing .... that could play a big factor... maybe i might just coff up and by a white line one ...

  4. its really no difference in the oil visocity... 5W30 and 5W40 difference is that the "40" can run at a higher temp than the "30"

Agreed. 5w 40 shouldnt be any problem at all from my understanding as its still as thin as 5w30 meaning it copes with the same cold tempreature range. The difference is as kenshin X said, that 5w40 can cope with higher tempreatures then 5w 30 .Theres plenty of members that are running 5 and 10w 40 in there cars and they seem to be more then happy with it.

please correct me if im wrong though , fairly new to all this stuff

  5. Update:

Had the oils in my car for about 2 weeks now and I am impressed with royal purple. Noticed the car was quieter then the original oil even though it’s a thin 5w 30 oil. Also the engine revs more freely now compared to the old Toyota oil.

Castrol syntrax 75w90 with nulon g70 has definitely improved gear changes. They feel smoother and it’s not crunching gears any more. The reason for the crunching was probably due to the original factory oil still being in my car ;).

As for who I got the car serviced with, I got a friend who is in the industry to service my car in the end. Very happy with the result he’s one hell of a perfectionist :). I did notice that the handbrake adjustment is in one very annoying and tight spot though: angry:

Overall all went well and may get a fuel injector service done later in the piece

Thanks very much for all your help

    Dave

  6. Hi everyone

I have recently been looking at handling mods to my sportivo 05 as some of you may know. I was talking to superdave at a recent track meet and he advised me that I should get the normal corolla sway bar if I’m on a budget as its 21mm instead of 19. I am having trouble to find much discussion about this mod on the forum so I decided to make a dedicated thread to allow for some discussion/opinion on the mod and to allow for it to be easily found when using the search function in the future.

The main questions I have to ask is

1: has anyone else done this other then super dave.

2: If so how are you finding the mod, did it help reduce body roll or mainly just improve turn in.

3: Is there an easy way to know if my car currently has a normal corolla sway bar ( I know it’s highly unlikely but just want to make sure). I sadly do not have a decent measuring tool to measure my sway bar so I am hoping there’s some code on the sway bar that gives it a way ;).

4: Are sway bars as easy to remove as they look. To me it just looks like I don’t even have to raise the car and then just remove 2 bolts.

then again I have never removed a sway bar before)

5: Anyone know of any good wreckers where i could find a 03 to 06 hatch? Places I have called so far just have old bombs :(.

If there is any other information i need to know regarding this mod then please let me know.

    Thanks

O and thanks super dave for letting me know about the mod :toast:

  7. we use penrite HPR5 in all the 2ZZ's we service and never had hassles.

you cant really tune these cars as there is nothing to adjust. if they are not running 100%, something is amiss. it might be simple like cleaning the MAF, but don't get conned into an old style "tune up" from "tune-up" companies

Fuel injector service is more important then some folk think. the pintle gets covered in resin and gum out of the fuel, so it does not spray properly. 1-shot fuel additives rarely clean them thoroughly so they have to come out to be cleaned. some need doing after about 40,000km, whilst other seem to go to about 100,000km.

O true thanks for the info. Penrite HPR5 is that a 5w 40 from memory. Yea i agree with the tune up, can u even adjust anything on the standard computer or is it 100% self learning.

I thought fuel injector servicing was mainly used back in the old days of lead fuel. Thought today’s fuels like BP ultimate would be allot cleaner (supposedly its meant to "clean" your engine) well according to the video below :P ...might not be as good as it seems though as i guess the video was created by BP :P.

Heres the vid I was talking about if anyone is interested (scroll to bottom of page for video)

  8. 10w40 is fine for Brisbane, doesn't get that cold. The 5w30 will be fine anyway, don't worry too much about it, just change back to the 10w40 at the next change. Plenty of people in Brisbane would use the 5w30 or thinner, with no short term problems at least :P

    Ok then cheers mate.

Got to admit i did find it werid how the 1zz can use 5w30 over 30c but 2zz can only go to 10c. Was thinking it might be some kind of a typo or some thing in the manual :P but o well thanks alot

    Dave

  9. Update:

    Just purchased all my oils

I decided to buy royal purple 5w 30 instead of 10w 40 as I thought its winter and won’t need the thicker oil.

Just before I put it in i decided to look in the manual and it says you shouldn’t use it when temperature is over 10c

What are peoples thoughts on this. should i go back to autobahn and replace it with a 10w 40 ?

p.s they can’t get 10w 30 in and i live in Queensland slightly north of Brisbane.

    Thanks dave

  10. i have the whiteline sway bar and hand on hart one of the best mods i have done best mod for buck i would say.

So there really that good hey, would you guys recommend getting a front strut bar with a white line rear sway or is there no need..... just don’t want my car over steering as I quite like the feeling of understeer (so easy to correct ;P)

  11. are all the sportivos really SA made? i thought they were from japan??

i have a SA 05 ascent, bought it at 70k kms and not long after that i felt there was a problem with the rear brakes and went to get them checked out. i had to get the rear disc pads replaced, but the guy said the problem with SA models are the the pads wear into the rotors aswell..so they were replaced as well. but overall he said nothing too major between SA and jap models.

What the hell pads wear into the rotors ...... as in they wear the rotors away faster then normal ? is this on the sportivos as well , should i be getting my spanner and replacing my pads asap ;)

  12. Ive heard of people lowering and softening the front for better traction on the front wheels but i have never heard of any one lowering just the rear ........ maybe he set it up like that so the car looked like it was lifting the front up heaps on launch :P;)

  13. I bought my Amsoil RD30 for $21 per quart (0.946L). Go to the link below.

    http://au.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=26015&st=0&p=376256&fromsearch=1entry376256

i would buy asimol but as i live in qld it just makes it to much effort as i have to get it posted and i wonder if its realy worth it..... postage would probably cost a decent amount to

    Penrite HPR5 for the Motor

    Ryco Oil filter

Nulon Smooth Shift 75-90 for the Box with a Nulon G70 Treatment

How you finding smooth shift 75-90 ? smooth shifts on start up? (e.g when engine is cold)

  14. Sorry to be a little off topic but where do you even find red top 3sges i remember when i was thinking about doing the same thing last year i just couldnt find any. aw11 red top would be a great p plate car :P shame its not legal.

  15. Thanks for the info dyslexik and white stivo.

Yea i heard alot of good things about asimol how much is a 5L bottle of that stuff ? . O and i forgot to ask what are some people's thoughts about nulon suposidly it provides a decent amount more power then RP and other brands such as castrol and motul heres my source :P

    .

i dont know how genuine it is though

As for the aircon thanks, i understand that it sucks power just didnt expect that inconsistant idle. o well ill get my dads mechanic to have a look at it and take it from there.

    Thanks

    Dave

  16. Hi just to start off sorry if this has already been discussed endlessly , i have used the search button and then checked the previously covered topics.

Some threads have already answered some of my questions I just have a couple more left that I feel have not been answered.

Ok so my sportivo is going in for its 60 k service. I have decided to buy my own oils those being

    Engine: royal purple

    Gearbox: Castrol Syntrax 75W 90

(if other people have better recommendations for same price please speak up :P)

    My Questions are

    Question 1:

I am unsure of what engine oil rating I should get for a person living north of Brisbane. I noticed a lot of people saying to get 10w 40, I thought Toyota recommended 10w 30. Would i notice a lack of performance if i get the 10w 40 due to the increased thickness or any other downsides?

    Question 2:

I am wondering where I should get the car serviced. Now before you all yell at me and say why don’t you service it yourself I am only doing this so I have some kind of service history for when I sell my car ( sad thought :( )

I am questioning if I should get it done at Toyota as a couple of my friends have had their car serviced at Toyota and have had stuff broken. Their cars are highly modified though so maybe that had something to do with it as the Toyota staff might have been confused with the engine setup.

Also the car has a homemade CAI so I am worried they might be pricks about it as it is not standard.

    Question 3:

What do people think of a fuel injector service, supposedly some say it should be done every 60,000km I was just wondering if people believe it is worth it. I have noticed some strange behaviour that sometimes occurs when the air con is on. It feels like the car is idling to low and on one occasion the car could not find its idling point while i was sitting at traffic (e.g went from 200rpm to about 1500 3 or 4 times then rested at 800).

If people have any other recommendations for a 60 k service please let me know.

I very much aprechiate the help. Thank you

  17. If that's your budget [and you're still $200-300 short], just get KYB Excel G shocks, as the original front shocks will be rooted by now anyhow. You could get a rear swaybar [not a marked improvement], or lowered springs [hampered by rooted shocks], but the control will come from shocks in the end...

As for exhaust: Budget option is 2 Magnaflow muffs from Greyhound Performance off eBay in the US. You buy a long inline muffler and a rear oval offset muffler, both in 2.25" for around $250 to your door. Go to an exhaust shop and have them replace the stock resonator and muffler with these, and you're laughing. You will have a quiet setup with an awesome note for around $350 all up.

    Gav.

Thanks. i never thought about the shock and yea after 4 years of use they would have to be screwed haha.

does 2 inch restrict the air flow at all. Is it true that the standard sportivo comes with a 2.25inch exhaust . i think i would like to do a popper job on the exhaust but $350 is damn tempting hehe.
