  2. I realise this thread's getting a bit old but it's still relevant. I just had the 70,000 km service done on the 2009 Kluger KX-R AWD which is the first one off the fixed price of $170 so I was waiting with baited breath for the cost. Pleasantly surprised at only $258. However................................... I also was glad that I asked how much the next one was going to be as the 80,000 km service is $730. I was a bit shocked at that until I read this thread. Welcome to the world of 4WD/AWD's I guess. Anyway, the prices (valid until 30/06/2013) for servicing of Klugers at Frankston Toyota in VIC are; 10,000km / 6 months - 60,000km/36 months = $170 70,000km / 42 months = $258 80,000km / 48 months = $730 90,000km / 54 months = $308 100,000km / 60 months = $695 (I haven't got the prices for 110,000km on as they only photocopied the page relevant to me) It's interesting that in the service description for the 80,000km service it says "Replace transfer oil - AWD" & "Replace rear differential oil - AWD", yet it doesn't list a different service price for the 2WD/AWD models. I'd be asking a question if I owned a 2WD. When I bought the Kluger new I signed up for an additional 3 years / 60,000 km warranty that (of course) obliges me to service it at Frankston Toyota for the full period. If I had my time again I'm not sure I'd bother looking at the costs.We always click over the 10,000km before the 6 months is up which is a bit of a pain, the services seem to come one on top of the other. Do people recommend sticking with this extended factory warranty seeing as I've paid for it, or am I better off forgetting about it and sourcing a decent local mechanic that I trust who will do things a bit cheaper, and maybe come out ahead over all? .

    KX-R 17" Tyres

    I've had a dealer offer me 255/65R17 Goodyear Wrangler All Weather HP's for $200 each just traded in off a brand-new Nissan Navara. Seems like a good deal, 4 good quality tyres for $800 fitted/balanced/aligned. The only thing is that the overall diameter of the rim and tyre increases about 13mm. (Speedo change?) Still within the legal 15mm overall increase, but what if I have to put the spare on with the existing 245/65R17 Dunlop Grand Trek on it? One wheel 13mm smaller diameter than the other 3. Does that cause any safety issues? (If I have to get 5 Goodyears for $1000 so the spare is the same I might as well just buy the 4 Grand Treks).

    Resurrecting an old thread I know but I need some circa 2012 advice. 2009 KXR-AWD has done 51,000km and needs 4 new tyres 245/65R17. I've been quoted (per tyre); Dunlop Grand Trek ST30's $280 Toyo HT $305 Bridgestone D683's $310 Cooper CTS $360 No off-roading use, just used by the wife around town and to/from work on bitumen roads. What do people recommend?
  6. We have a 2009 KX-R AWD and it's a great family car, heaps of space and very safe with all the airbags. I have a tow-bar, side-steps, nudge bar and as mentioned, the AWD version which adds up to a lot of metal. Therefore the fuel consumption isn't great and don't expect it to be. The wife just filled up today after doing 488.6 km and it took 60.28 litres to refill, which works out to 12.3 l/100km. This is a bit of city cycle and a bit of highway cycle. $1.27 per litre today so $76.55 to fuel up. It is usually about $80+ each refill for us. The Toyota Service Advantage fixed price servicing at $170 seems good, but it is very frequent at every 6 months or 10,000km. Dealers make a lot of money from servicing and I think Toyota have worked out a way to make sure that is maximised. My Commodore service interval is 15,000 km which is more realistic.

  8. Ok, I get that they fit the LPG tank where the spare tyre was. kangur1806, your donut holds 55 litres. Geoff, what sort of tank have you got that can hold 65? That sounds like the one to go for, would be a PITA filling up after 360-380 km/s all the time.
  9. Thanks for the replies. I look at the number plates of every Kluger I see here in the SE suburbs of Melbourne and I'm yet to see one with the red LPG badges. It's like finding a four leaf clover. So with the LPG tank they install where the spare tyre went, how much LPG does it take? ie. When the system says you're empty and it switches back to petrol, how many litres do you have to put in it to fill it up again? Also, how many kilometres do you average per fill?
  10. My wife is getting sick of filling our 2009 KX-R AWD Kluger at $80 a pop and is not finding it very good on fuel. It does stop/start driving a fair bit to/from her work which doesn't help. I have a factory dual fuel Commodore and often remark to her about how great it is to only be spending about $30 to go 500 km most of the time (as well as the occasional ULP fill up). I'm wondering about the feasibility of converting the Kluger over to LPG. I've read the couple of threads here but still have some questions and was wondering if those that have done it could tell me what they think? Would you do it again or not? What sort of system did you get? About how much is it to do at the moment? Who services your Kluger now, still Toyota? (We are still under the capped price Toyota Advantage servicing) Does fitting aftermarket LPG affect the Toyota warranty? If anyone could assist with some of their experiences and advice that would be appreciated.

  12. Can someone tell me if this is the normal appearance of the front disc brakes on a KX-R? Maybe I've just never noticed them before, but it looked to me as though something should be covering the area where the little brass coloured cylinders with green on them are at either end?

I lay on my back and stuck my head under the back end looking at the spare tyre set-up the other day and noticed the wiring for my reverse sensors that were put in at the Toyota dealer was hanging loose at one point. Closer inspection revealed they used 2 small self adhesive plastic tabs that have cable hooks on them to attach the wiring to the metal just to the rear of where the spare hangs. One of the tabs towards the driver's side had come off the metal. I mentioned this at the 1st complimentary service the other day and said if it had come unstuck within a month then they obviously weren't going to last long term. I asked if there was any other way of securing the wiring and they said "probably not, it's probably the standard install kit for the Kluger". When I got it back I looked and they had secured the wiring on the driver's side where the tab had come away higher up through small holes using cable ties. I notice they didn't do the same on the passenger side at the same time, which would have got the entire horizontal cable run right up and away form the spare tyre, but I guess they thought it wasn't warranted. Maybe all Klugers have the wires running there and its fine. I never would have noticed without crawling under and it was not really a big deal, just something to let people know.
  17. After a bit of travelling I've decided to just use the windscreen mount as well. For the amount we use it that works fine. I bought a TomTom travel case and keep everything together in that in the glove box most of the time. When using the unit I mount it on the far right bottom of the windscreen so the driver can see it at a glance without moving their head and it doesn't interfere with visibility of the road at all. In this position the charging cord goes nicely down the dashboard to the right of the instrument cluster, across the top of the steering column and down to the cigarette lighter socket in the alcove in front of the "T-Bar" auto shifter. The excess cord curls up in the alcove for a fairly neat setup.
  18. I got a TomTom XL340 GPS for the Kluger for Christmas and am wondering where people have mounted theirs? Has anyone put them anywhere other than on the windscreen? (Thinking about theft prevention and ease of removal - ours will be in the glovebox a fair bit when just around home) Has anyone tried out these "Dashboard Bean Bag Mounts"? http://www.tomtom.com/products/accessories...sory.php?ID=855 If so, do they work OK on the Kluger dashboard?

    I bought a Hayman Reese lockable hitch pin from Pedders yesterday for $30. http://www.haymanreese.com.au/consumer/pro...nlock/index.htm As per Matty P maybe not exactly as snug a fit but I suspect a would be thief would take one look and put it in the too hard basket straight away. I like leaving the tow-bar and bike rack base on so that if one of the tail-gaters can't stop in time they hit that and damage their car not mine.   22. Still playing with the new car and learning as I go. Was wondering about this and aren't taking it back in for it's first service until 5th January so thought I'd ask the question. Having refuelled a couple of times I was surprised at the fuel cap all of a sudden reaching the tightening point and then only "clicking" for the shortest possible time (a couple of degrees clockwise travel at the most) before not budging any further. It doesn't seem to take a lot of effort to undo the cap anti-clockwise from that point of not budging either. I expected it to "click" farther around so that I was sure it was on as tight as it could be. Is this normal, or should it click a bit further clockwise than a bees willy? We have SS Commodores at work and they just keep clicking away for as long as you want to keep turning them clockwise after you reach the tightening point. So does my Mazda 2 now I think of it. Does everyone elses do the same or is my fuel cap NQR? - Not Quite Right. Can't see that petrol's slopped out and haven't opened the filler flap to find the cap undone or anything, just curious as this is not what I'm used to.
  23. Thanks for the reply. I went for a trip in it yesterday as front seat passenger and read the manual in detail. It appears as though she has been unintentionally activating the "Hill Assist Control" feature which makes the slip indicator flash. I explained how this worked to her and we tested it out and she thinks that is what she had been seeing. We didn't see the slip indicator light come on any time it wasn't meant to during yesterday's trip. We'll keep an eye on it but I think it's just been doing exactly what it's meant to do. :D

My wife has reported that the "Slip Indicator" dash light (the little graphic of the car with the skid marks behind it) has been coming on intermittently and flashing in normal braking situations when neither the VSC or Traction Control has been activated. Dry roads, gradual braking for a red light was the last instance today apparently. Looking at Pg 181 of the manual it says that a buzzer will sound intermittently when VSC is operating. She says there has been no buzzer. I suppose I'll have to do what it says on Pg 183; "If the slip indicator comes on it may indicate a malfunction in the VSC and TRC. Contact your Toyota dealer." Has anyone else experienced this issue?
