  1. Sorry for the delay with the reply, been away. only issue is with fuel gauge at the moment, gsuge goes down without using petrol?????? it must be computer driven somehow and not just a simple fuel tank gauge.??? somebody might know about this?? Anyway it runs very well, trip computer says 11.5 L/100 on a trip @ 110kph. I know some petrol is used on start up & until engine reaches temperature, I estimate about 3k then switches to gas. It's going back for a check on Monday as I can smell LPG driving around town but ok on the open road??? cheers Geoff
  2. Hi, Gassed our 09 KXS yesterday, donut tank where spare was, 77 litre tank with 55 litre usable, hoping to refit the spare wheel where the rear 2 smaller seats are as we will never use them. If not, well a can of tyre repair will have to do as a temporary tyre fix. would take the spare on a long trip though. We used the Sprint Gas system which is injected vapour as Sprint Gas have dealers in every state if a warranty repair is required. No real power loss. The first surprise was at the bowser, $30 instead of $80 to fill up. Cheers Geoff

    LPG Conversion

Void my warranty how so??? Warranty of the LPG component is covered by the supplier/installer. The rest is still covered by Toyota unless consumer affairs have changed the warranty. Geoff
  4. Try to fill up at the same servo & same fill point, note litres added then record kilometres travelled, then when you need gas again, do as above then divide litres added into kilometres travelled. there you have L/100kms.
  5. Hi, Could I have some recommendations for the best places for a LPG conversion in Melbourne or country Victoria. Like customer service, price & warranty. I have a KXS AWD 2009 to convert to LPG. thanks in anticipation. Geoff

    tyre wear

Hi, Just wondering what sort of Kms everyone is getting from the Bridgestone tyres OEM & if other brands are now being used & what KMs so far. Me, 36000 Kms on the OEM Bridgestones, I should get another 15K from them + 50% wear has been towing a 1650Kg van. I'm starting to think of replacements. cheers Geoff
  7. Hi, Look on ebay, set of 4 going very cheaply & almost new. cheers.
  8. Hi All, I've noticed on the Toyota web site that there is now a disclaimer for the KXS audio/Bluetooth device. It basically says that it will not work with all devices. Funny tho it doesn't mention what/which devices are compatable. I guess the Grande model works with all mobile devices. mmmm cheers Geoff

    bluetooth

Toyota replaced the audio head unit last friday, what pain, had to take it back as the display wasn't plugged in after the exchange, found a spare scew under the shift console keeping it up. not good with the quality of service. Anyway no change with bluetooth connection nothing works just as before, ie have to manually connect each time the car is started. The service manager was very helpful & sympathetic, could not tell us which phone might work with the car. obviously Nokia's are no good. I'm pushing to get it fixed as I don't want to booked again while talking on the mobile. Reading other threads on this site it appears a lot of Kluger users are not happy with the Audio/Bluetooth, why doesn't everyone go back to Toyota and complain. It's a great car, but for the price the vehicle the bluetooth technology should work as all of the new cars coming out now have great bluetooth connection devices. cheers Geoff

    bluetooth

Thanks Sam, your reply was appreciated, Toyota are now helping, it appears there are a lot of problems with the kluger audio/bluetooth, they are now replacing with an after market bluetooth that works with our next service. If this doesn't work it's plan "B" with a Grande audio Bluetooth or an older sysytem that should work. A lot of new cars out there now with new bluetooth systems that work very well for less dollars compared to Toyota. thanks Geoff

    bluetooth

Hi all, I need help/info. I know there has been a lot of info about Kluger bluetooth etc with past threads. We have a 2009 KXS-AWD and have had trouble with the bluetooth phone connection since new. My Nokia 6120 did connect with the bluetooth, my wife's 6120 did not. I updated her phone software to no avail. so, we bought another Nokia. It works sometimes. Still have to manually connect each time the car is turned on, what a pain. Often it wont connect, the screen displays UNAVAILABLE. Toyota don't seem to want to know about it. The question is, do you think it is faulty or is it still the phone that's the problem, or is the problem with the way we have set it up. Is the Grande model better?? thanks Geoff
  12. Hi, Just come back from a holiday up to Darwin and back, our thoughts on fuel consumption and oil which covers a few topics. Kluger 2009 KXS- AWD fully laden with Waeco and supplies in the back plus a 1700Kg caravan behind. The Kluger had the 10k service before we left and we used Valvaline 0-40 fully sythetic oil. Fuel economy before the service was not great, approx 11-12 on highway & 15-16 around city. Just after the service we noticed straight away that the fuel economy was heaps better, highway 10L/100 and under if I drove very carefully at 100ks/hr. Cruise control used more fuel. I'm thinking it was the oil that made a difference. Anyway on the Darwin trip up through Alice springs and return we averaged 16.5 towing the van over 9000kms travelled. We were with another couple who had a Ford XR6 towing a similar van, he was most upset every time we filled up, yep we got exactly the same fuel consumption, often within a litre. Sometimes ours used less. He was not happy. So unhappy he was thinking of buying a Ford territory at Katherine. Why not a Kluger, I don't know. Head wind towing happened on a couple of days with 21-22 L/100, still not to bad, best was 14.8 with tail wind.Even with a head wind both vechicles had the same fuel consumption. Overall opinion of the kluger for the trip, absolutly fantastic. Radio is not good, 6 stacker CD was used heavily. Bluetooth not good. Tom Tom gps & Bluetooth great. cheers Geoff
  13. Hi, The kluger is great except for the radio/Bluetooth. My Nokia 6120 works fine, my wifes 6120 won't connect??? work that out, so we replaced hers with a Nokia 6720 and now it works sometimes. The screen comes up with not available??? often. She's not happy. Anyway our dealer has placed an order to replace it under warranty. i must say the Tom Tom GPS has a better Bluetooth, it picks up all the contacts automatically and is more user friendly. The Kluger should be great but it's not. Toyota need a hurry up especially for the price one pays for a new one. Geoff

    mudflaps

I have now also bought some Toyota mudflaps for the Kluger at much expense. But only fitted the front ones, although I think ther're a bit small. I left the rears on as the factory ones are bigger than the new type. Not worth it. Geoff
  15. Hi, All of the above, + Exterior mirrors are DANGEROUS, (cars, trucks etc appear a lot further away) current fuel comsumption display takes 350kms to get down to correct reading??? Fuel light comes on with over 20 litres of fuel left in tank. Driving range of fuel tank limited when towing caravan, needs larger tank like Prado. or will fit LPG to extend range. yes the radio issues as in above thread, Parking sensors should be standard on all models for the price you pay for the car. cruise control on light should be included. not just single light as is currently. Cheers Geoff
  16. Hi, We went on a short trip last weekend with our caravan and wanted to share some findings about fuel consumption and gear selection. We have a Dec 09 KX-S AWD only 5000km on the clock, trip was only 400km round trip. Van is 1650kg. As I'm still new to the Kluger I thought I would try a few things towing. I decided to use 4th gear in S mode going to Berri in S.A. Fuel read 21L/100 km. No wind really at all. Speed was 100km/hr .I thought we're not going to get far on a full tank at this rate. On the way home I used 4th gear on the very steep hills only, then decided to leave it in 5th and go easy on the pedal, we had a slight tail wind. Fuel consumption was 16.2 L/100km. Using 5th gear in S-mode. It doesn't take much of a road rise and it jumps back a gear.(or should say 1/2 agear??) only went back to 4th when I had to push it harder to get up a steep hill. maybe it goes back to 4th overdrive or something?? Anyway, 5th gear is ok on the flat road. I must say, the Kluger is much better than the Commodore towing the van. Kluger does it easily and you feel a lot safer. Does anyone know of any gearbox issues with towing in 5th gear? cheers Geoff :)
  17. Hi, Have you thought of just adding Poly airbags. They just increase spring tension for when u load up & pump up the bags. Then let air out for normal use! cheers Geoff

    fuel mileage

I don't believe they do as there is no service done at 1000km anymore...it's just in inspection. The first actual service is at 10,000km, so I don't think they'd run thinner oil for the first 10K km.... Dave Hi Dave, I wonder then what else they do at the free check/service @ 1000k because our AWD had fantastic consumption around the city, between 8-9 L/100 then after the free check, fuel consumption was well over 15L/100km??? On a highway trip doing 100klm- 110klm/hour it takes about 250klm to drop down to 10.6 then a further 200klm to drop to 10L/100. I just think the AWD is a little more thirsty, but we're very happy with it tho. cheers Geoff

    fuel mileage

Hi, I think most will find that the 2WD will have better fuel consumption than the AWD due to the added HP needed to drive the extra 2 wheels. We only just get 10l/100 on a trip, around the city is 15l/100km with very careful driving. The first 1000km was fantastic, under 10L/1000 around city. I wonder if Toyota put in thinner oil for the running in period then the dealer changes to what ever they have at the first 1000lk service and it's a lot thicker. I'm trying the Valvoline 0-40w synthetic oil to see if it makes any difference at my next service. cheers
  20. Hi all, Valvoline synthethic oil 0-40 at Repco in Victoria is going out cheap due to a change in branding/label. $27.50 per 5 litres normally $80.00. cheers Geoff

    mudflaps

thanks for info, yes already had the front alignment adjusted, was pulling to the left. haven't noticed any other abnormal wear yet as only done 3,oook $195.00 at the local Toyota dealer for mudflaps seems very over priced.

    mudflaps

Hi everyone, new to this forum, we have just run in a Silver KXS AWD so far so good. I'm wanting to know if mudflaps for the front can be bought seperately. We somehow have mudflaps on the rear but none on the front. Is this normal for new Klugers or did we get stung? trying to stop the mud and stones from hitting the side of the Kluger. An suggestions?
  23. Hi RR, I'm interested in the synthetic oil, is it that much better and that much difference in fuel economy? I'm currently getting 10l/100km on the highway terrible in city with KXS AWD just run in. GK

    fuel mileage

Now getting 10L/100 on highway trip to Melbourne
