  1. How old is the laptop, how much use does it get and when it's being used is it usually used plugged into the power or on battery power?

the laptop is 4 years old.. i use it almost everyday.. i use the battery power and once the battery runs out i charge it and when its full i still use it on the battery charger and when im done i turn the charger off and next time i use the laptop i run it on battery power and repeat the cycle(re charging when the battery is low and etc)

Sounds like the battery is pretty much dead then to me. If it's unplugged and run off the battery until it's say 10% flat, then plugged in again, does it then charge back to 35% then stop again?

  2. Hi everyone,

Just hoping someone in Melbourne can recommend a mechanic to me. I need the timing belt changed on my 4A-GE (I've already got the timing belt kit, but both my flatmate and I decided it looked like a job best left to a mechanic) and also down the track I'd like someone I can take it to to get the cams changed, and maybe even get them to service it every so often.

Any responses would be very much appreciated.

I'm in the Eastern Suburbs, near Ringwood.

    Thanks.

  3. hey,

just wondering why my laptop has stopped charging when i have my charger conntected to the laptop... instead it says plugged in, not charging with the battery level at 35%. i tried disconnecting the charger and reconnecting it which resulted in it charging for a few seconds but then it still says plugged in, not charging with the battery level at 35%. thanks

  4. scratched meetup idea tonight guys. sorry, its gonna be raining/thunderstorms. GG

    Next week perhaps

    lmfao.

It was raining cats n dogs just earlier and got a feeling it'll only get worse. You're probably right though, unless we go somewhere under cover.. I've never been to Noodle Kingdom, is it worth a shot in going there tonight? or should we all just bail?

Yeah, I was just caught in a scary hailstorm, couldn't hear anything above the sound of hail hitting my poor car and could hardly even see the end of the bonnet it was that heavy. Bloody scary while you're driving, I had no choice but to stop and wait!

I'd be up for driving over to scumshine, up to you guys and the weather of course!

  5. Rumbling noise? Could it have been the sound of the tyres? Hard to tell really without hearing it to be honest. I know when I brake hard I get a rumbling noise from the tyres as they're close to the limit of adhesion, and I know it's not ABS because I don't have it, it's just the sound of the tyres making contact with the road under the pressure of the weight of the car times the force of the g forces involved, and I take it as an audible warning that I'm at the very limit of the tyres traction.

Is it possible for you to record this sound for us to hear so we can make a more informed reply? I can make a recording of the sound I'm referring to if that's any help, so you can tell me if it's anything like it?

  6. another one from me

when u format your computer, whats the best way to free up the space for a clean install

    1) full format (you have to wait for 1000000000000000000 years)

    2) delete the partition and quick format

    cheers

p.s. i did notice that from vista up, u cannot do a full format... would this be the delete partition and quick format option?

Full format is almost NEVER needed. full format overwrites the entire disk as empty, which as you noticed, takes ages. But it's not reqired, because a quick format just marks the disk as empty without spending all the time writing over everything, so as far as the computer is concerned, it's empty. End result is the same, but the time taken is massively different.

In short, if you're putting Windows on it, just do a quick format!

  7. psshh.. Painting anything on your car red would bring you closer to the 10sec mark :P

Yeah? Awesome! *rushes out to paint all 4 tyres red with the slickest, smoothest paint he can find to lower wind resistance...

    Hahahahahahahahaha :P

  8. Sorry I would go if I wasn't getting wasted! :D

And, Eastside to Westside & East to North = the norm for me (you guys know that). I can't wait for the next time you guys aren't so freaken lazy and come down this way! The next time I'll probably be like 50.. :P

I'm east side too - Mitcham. I don't really want to go over to scumshine if I can help it (I used to live there, moved out after my place got robbed), but will if that's decided on by everyone...

  9. sweet , just need to set a date etc and we'll be sorted as long as half of you don;t turn into girls

Something simple like... the first Friday of each month :P

AND, if we have a pinned Topic, we can just decide on whether we want to do something extra? Say one of us is bored and convinces a few others?? Also... where would we meet? Instead of having it way out west or way out east. Why not somewhere in the middle?

Sounds perfect to me! I'm open to suggestions and ideas.

  10. Car looks boss man i love it!

when urs is done i think i might do a trip to melbourne :P

If you do that, let us all know, I'd be keen to check out both his ride and yours! B)

Well a minor update got a stereo finally! no more boring drives. Also had a few problems with petrol and the way she was running so my dad and i drained her filled her back up with new petrol and fixed the timing and now she runs better then she use to, so much fun :D

Cool, what stereo sis you out in? Good work on fixing the problems, well done!

  11. Blind Kid Seeks family owned an SX seca when he was a grasshopper and they had fitted cruise to it... im looking at placing it in my sportivo and will let you know what i come up with. For your car , i'd go to the pickapart and find a camry ultima or another toyota of the same vintage as the SX and remove everything needed and have a crack at installing it. Otherwise cheap ebay kits are also there for the taking pending budget etc.

Cool, thanks mate! Good idea on pick-a-part, and I'll have a look on ebay too. Main worry I have is that I want it to look as factory as possible, so pick-a-part seems like the best bet. It will be interesting, and if I manage to get anything working I'l be sharing all the info and pics of course.
