you might hate my suggestion but take it to the dealer!

Firstly, welcome to the forum.

The aussie built camry's have there auto boxes come out form a mob in wagga wagga (or wadonga cant remember).

As Applegarth said, the US ones had issues, but I think you find the dealer is on the money with the ABS test. I have driven a manual gen 6 and didn't find this problem at all.

One question, does this happen on startup from cold? or is it something that happens every time you take off?

The updated ones are a lot nicer. USB / iPod interface, little screen with choice of 3 average colors. Some stupid ASL thing that changes the volume depending on the speed (ANNOYING)

I would recommend a air conditioner clean out.

an easy DIY job. All you need is some Glen 20 and 60mins of time.

Close all the doors and windows, leave the air con on re-cycle for 10mins with the Glen 20 can jammed on.

Open the doors and windows and let it air out till the strong smell of glen 20 goes. Just run the fan (no AC) on fresh air intake for a further 10mins after you open the doors and windows.

Easy fix and doesn't take tooo long :)
