  1. Thanks rob323... The rattle sounds like it's coming from the timing chain cover side, I'll do the long bar to the ear trick tomorrow. Yes you're right they do idle very low and I think something is just rattling.. I hope!!
  2. Ha Ha you're too funny!! Why waste good $$ when I can search here and someone with experience on this subject can point me in the right direction? For all I know it's a loose exhaust heat shield! 10mm Spanner job done..... I hate taking my car to service centres or dealers they're all ripp off artists. Example; Just yesterday my wife’s KIA went into main dealer in Wanneroo for oil service. $360 later for oil and filter!! Oh they checked water levels and ATF levels. Must have been really hard to lift the bonnet and bend over to look at the levels. NEVER NEVER NEVER take your car into a dealer or service centre unless you have cash to throw around!!! If I can't fix it get a mate to help with a few beers...... better fun

  4. Hi there everyone. I'm new to this site but have owned a few Toyota's. Anyway before I start stripping my Echo 2003 Auto model NCP10R, has anyone got any ideas as to why my engine (2NZFE) has a rattle. It only (Shouldn't say only it is more noticeable) when idling but only when under load i.e when the headlights are on (load from alt) or when the air-con is on. As soon as you rev it disappears. I've had it on the ramp and thought it was coming from the belts. I ran a candle on the belt thinking the belt wasqueakingng whilst it was running but the noise only goquieterer for a while then back on. Then I thought maybe the exhaust wasqueakingng. Tried moving that by hand but nothing. Finally I have come to the conclusion it may be pinging, I tried higher octane fuel up to 98 but nothing, no change. Another thought, it may be the timing chain or tensioner but it doesn't sound like a timing chain rattle. All out of ideas now:( Any help please Thanks
  5. Hi everyone. Just thought I'd join as I have 2 Toyota's. A 2003 Echo for work and a 100 Series Landcruiser UZJ100R for fun. Always looking at ideas from other Toyota owners and technical help..... Cheers Jeremy
