  1. Less than 2 weeks to go now, in true Toyotafest tradition I'm sure most of you will be leaving things to the last minute with many sleepless nights on the cards ahead.


    As a friendly but important reminder for all entrants, please be aware that if you intend on entering your car into the show this year, once you are parked and the show has started (9am) we cannot permit you to move your car until the show ends at 3pm. This is purely for insurance purposes - we are insured for a STATIC car display / show.


    If you feel you may not be able to stay for the whole day, it doesn't mean you can't attend the show, you just won't be able to enter your car. There is plenty of parking outside the show area where spectators can come and go as they please.

  2. Playing around with airbags can be tricky and dangerous if you don't know what you're doing. Get a copy of a Gregorys manual (I assume you've got an AE101/102 so you'll need #271) and go through the procedure for disabling the airbag and then removing the steering wheel, it's pretty simple when you have the instructions in front of you

  3. When you say spectators are free, what does this mean? Am i allowed to drive my car into the carpark somewhere? Im not familiar with the layout and never been to a toyota fest before. I don't plan on entering the competition lol

    We block off a large portion of the top level of the multi-storey carpark, but there are plenty of parks left over for people who don't want to enter (as well as the general public who will be visiting the shopping centre as usual). Paid entrants get a park in the restricted zone and an entrants number to display on their car (for trophy eligibility etc), but everyone is free to walk around and even look at cars parked outside (ie if you want to show people your car but can't be there for the whole day).

  5. Try searching Yahoo Japan, places like Jesse Streeter and Import Monster can do all the import stuff for you and it doesn't end up being _THAT_ expensive - I got an FXGT front bumper from YJ delivered to my door through Import Monster for something like $350 (including purchase price)

    After the mamoth event that was Toyotafest #10, we are back on the rooftop again to turn things up to 11!!

    So how do you enter...?

    To be eligible to enter, the vehicle must be Toyota bodied, but any engine and driveline combination is welcome. You DO NOT have to be a member of the Toymods Car Club to enter and we encourage other Toyota clubs to present club displays.

    Entry fee is $10 per vehicle to cover event overheads. Spectators are FREE

    We don't take pre-entries. Just turn up on the day with $10 per car and an entry form, and you'll be good to go!

    Entrants are encouraged to arrive from 7.30am with last entrants being accepted into the display at 8.55am for a 9am start. Trophy presentation and raffle will start around 2.30pm. The display will close at 3.00pm with ALL cars remaining until then. In the interest of public safety NO vehicle may be moved or started during the display... NO EXCEPTIONS!

    Again, Toymods, is organising a few 'side' events for the interstate enthusiasts. So to make their trip worthwile, we will be having a dinner and possibly a GoKart day or drag night at WSID (TBA)

    PS: You're car does not need to be in 'show condition' to enter. As long as it's neat and tidy (washing it is a great start), we'd love to see it in the show!

    Probably because TRD Australia (the makers of the TRD Aurion) ceased to exist almost 2 years before the supercharged Evora S was released. In fact, TRD Australia stopped making cars before the the VVTi oil pipe issue really started gaining attention in Australia...
  8. Chances are you had two blown bulbs that got fixed at the service :P

    All four tail-lights should be on when you have the headlights on, the outer ones go brighter when you hit the brakes (either dual-filament bulbs or seperate bulbs, I can't remember which).

    That reminds me, got the change the tail-light globes on our SXV20 daily hack this weekend, left-hand outer tail-light is blown (so only 3 tail-lights come on but both brake lights work fully).

    That sounds good, are you going? any idea where they might be meeting up?

    Meet point is Harrys at Parramatta at 9, leaving at 10. I should be going (being on the Toymods board means I really should be going to every event), need to do an oil-change on the Corolla first otherwise I might be rocking up in the Camry hack.

  10. Below is advise from a person who owns a 200k 1999 SXV20 runaround (which has no engine issues, by the way) and learnt to drive in a 1996 SXV10 (which belongs to my parents, and they still own it after 280k, also with no engine issues)

    Dash temperature gauges are little more than idiot lights with needles.

    The reason why you saw a lot at the wreckers with the same problem is a combination of 2 things - Camrys were sold by the bucketload (The SXV10 was the most popular car in Australia back in 1995), and they have very few problems that take them off the road. Thus, it doesn't take a genius to work out that almost all the ones you see intact at wreckers and workshops(ie no accident damage) will either be because of flood damage, or engine failure (you could use the same reasoning and say "Warning about SXV10 Camrys - they have a tendency to get caught in floods based on how many I saw at the wreckers with flood damage"). Being as how a lot of them are bought by either people wanting a cheap family car (and thus often can't afford even basic servicing), or by elderly people who aren't great on maintenance and only drive short distances, even the relatively bullet-proof 5S can be brought undone to a point where it is not financially viable to repair (try convincing a granny on a pension that her Camry needs a $5000 new engine).

    Seriously though, you bought a car which had been sitting with no coolant and obvious signs of water leakage, and then act surprised when it cooks itself a couple of thousand ks down the road? You then continued to drive a car with a blown headgasket, relying on Chemweld (dodgy at the best of times), and then act surprised again when the rest of the cooling system carks it? That could happen to ANY car (seals perish, coolant goes off, metal rusts etc), and in fact is almost a certainty if you didn't completely overhaul the cooling system as soon as you bought it. Also, headgaskets can blow by other means than just overheating, and if anything the overheating is a symptom of the blown headgasket (combustion gases getting into the coolant) as much as it is a cause.

    The coolant bottles are cracked and brittle because they are made from 90s plastic and are now 20+ years old - once again a problem with any car of that vintage, not just Camrys.

    Next time, just create a thread called "Warning about buying cars which are missing vital fluids" as that is what you've done. Who knows, maybe you didn't bleed the system properly when you filled it up after buying a car WITH NO COOLANT AND A LEAKY COOLING SYSTEM. You haven't uncovered some secret Toyota cover-up, or some fundamental flaw that only exists in 1993-2002 Camrys, you've just highlighted the need for proper maintenance under the subtext of this great scare-campaign about a perfectly normal, reliable, albeit used car.
