  1. Stock as a rock.. If you fall off the 6k mark when shifting from 1st-2nd you fall into the 'torque hole' which really slows your time. So shift hard and fast and you'll beat any manafactures claims.. I have no idea what my 0-100 time there was.. But it seems faster than 8.2sec (what toyota claims).
  2. The rain is a great challenge :D I try to feed the power on in a straight line, if you press hard on the accelerator it will obvioulsy break traction. Even in "lift" just feed it on.. Also shift before 7500 in the 2zz so you shift and revs drop to around 5k so you can keep the traction.. I raced a 7th gen celica when i had my stivo in the wet, that was fun.. 2 front drivers scrabbling for any sort of traction. He beat me though.. :(
  3. PM me and i'll email it.. Its 7MB tho, is this too big for your email?
  4. I ran sp3000 dunlops... They were the best tyres i had ever run on the stivo.. Most tyres i ran were good in the dry, but the SP3000's really shine in the wet.. :)
  5. Yes, it would be pricey. You have to drive it hard to get your moneys worth :P Which would be scary First off, to my knowlege there is no production mr2 with the 2ZZGE. But in Japan this is a popular conversion. The 2zzge pretty much bolts straight into the MR, as it shares the same bottom end dimenisions of the 1ZZE (so ive been told). Look at the 05 lotus with the 2ZZ-GE, it is also a midship. Lotus claims 0-100 around 5.5sec and the 1/4 mile in a mid 13. This car weighs a mere 875kg with a full tank of fuel. If you take the MR2 and are brave enough to drive it hard, i think its worth the cash to do the conversion - It weighs a little more than the lotus, and has the same drive train loss (minimal for RWD) and shares the same engine and gearbox. So i theory, it would hammer. I have seen a MRS in a best motoring touge battle demolish the Drift King's Tuned AE86 around corners and srtaight line speed (and for those who watch the best motoring series would know not many cars can beat Tsuchia in his Sprinter). Cost?? Well, what do you need for this recipie? These are estimates only (I was going to do this at one stage) 2ZZ-GE Power plant - 3.5k 6-Speed Trans - 1.5k Labour (3 full days) - $90 per hour This is my dream track car :D
  6. Read this in another forum, related to this thread..kinda interesting.. Without excessive fanfare or noise, Toyota released a lifted and tucked Corolla Sportivo ZZE123R in Aptil 2005, bringing it up to date with the revisions to the rest of the (now best selling) Toyota Corolla line-up. All that has been publicised about the face lift mostly boil down to new bodykit styling, added MP3 compatibility to the 6 stack CD player, some minor interior updates and a $1,000 price drop to just $28,990. I first started looking deeper into the Corolla Sportivo when I found a serious lack of discussion around the revision, as slightly updated styling and MP3 playback is a suprisingly small update. Looking into it further, I was suprised to see how many problems people have had with their car, and how Toyota has struggled with the model. Nice Move In theory it's a killer hot hatch. 141kw 2ZZ-GE engine from the 7th gen Celica, 6 speed manual transmission, and all the practicality of a Corolla, the ZZE123R Corolla Sportivo is a surprising move for Toyota Australia - its the first time the 'G' engine has been apart of our line up since the AE9X platform. Equally surprising was the feature list and value for money represented in its $29,990 price tag. Six stack CD player, leather faced seats and trimmed interior, Lexus-style instruments, an updated bodykit from the Levin model, climate control, all modern electrics and remote central locking, 16" lightweight alloys, 'Sportivo' exhaust and lowered, stiffened suspension gear - PLUS the 2ZZ-GE engine (boasting 41kw over the 1ZZ-FE of the other models) and 6 speed manual, all for less than $10,000 over the base model. A hot hatch relies on a strong power to weight ratio, sacrificing ride quality, noise levels, economical gear ratios, and Mum-friendly steering for a 'true' sports car experience. The Renault's Clio Sport, along with other ever present members of the GTi club, are enjoying boosted popularity in these times of rising fuel prices. Back in 2003 the new Corolla Sportivo was launched to mediocre press. What went wrong Weighing in at over 1,200kg, frustrations were expressed at lack of power under 6,000rpm, riding on timid 'sports' suspension, light steering, and the lack of any real effort on Toyota's behalf failed to make the car much more exciting than a tyical Corolla. The handling, in particular, being a weakness against its European competition. Even worse was the performance-related recall in earlier models. Rumored to have been fitted with the detuned European ECU meant that a stock Sportivo was putting out about 90kw at the wheels, falling short of Toyota's flywheel figure by over 40%. The South African built Sportivo has had plenty of quality issues too. Unaligned clutches, warping rotors, average interior quality, and plenty of creaks being a constant source of customer complaints. Today It has been announced that the current Corolla Sportivo will cease production on October 1st 2005. Despite recalls and bad press, the ZZE123R Corolla has held its value well, poorer condition second hand models consistently priced in the low $20k range with newer and post-facelift models often in the mid to high $20k's. An abundance of aftermarket branded (and copy) parts available from throughout the Asian, North American and European markets, thanks in particular to the Celica, the 2ZZ-GE has caught the attention of the performance and tuning scenes, earning serious research and development. Despite the downfalls of the Corolla Sportivo's chassis, handling and suspension, aftermarket LSDs and suspension modifications have made it a competitor again. Good examples of tuning (through piggy-back and SAFC type ECU additions, intake and exhaust systems) and suspension work (lower, stiffer springs, under car, engine and in car struts) are seeing competitive times down the quarter mile and around the track, against both the European hatches and Japan's NA pocket-rockets. In my searches online, I have found very limited press that the face-lifted model even exists, at best, it's just a copy of Toyota's PR. One owner of the pre-updated Sportivo at the Toyota Owner's Club forums took the 2005 revision for a test drive and came back with a longer, mostly cosmetic, list of updates, but three were particularly interesting: "Performance is very different with the engine having a lot more torque under 6000rpm although this makes the lift point nowhere near as vicious as the previous model." "The shifter cables and they seem to have been revised to a plastic coated cable from the recall rubber coated ones" Compared to the old model "gear shifting was nice and crisp without being notchy." These kind of comments suggest to me that through the performance recall of August 2004, and many clutch, brake, suspension and interior warranty claims, Toyota hasn't advertised the updated model as being improved, as its the faults of the Corolla Sportivo ZZE123R were never acknowledged in the first place.
  7. This has probably been posted before, but its a good read... Click the link below to understand how Variable Valve Timing works with cars of today, and how the powerful 2zz-ge compares... http://www.autozine.org/technical_school/e...t_31.htm#VVTL-i
  8. Yeah, hit the limiter on nearly every gear.. It's a cool limiter though. It bounces quite fast, and gives you a chance to shift smoothly. My mates Prelude is harsh on the limiter! It's like hittin the brakes :o I posted this vid to show people its is quite posible to keep this car in its hi-cam power range. I hate that motor magazine states "the corolla drops off its hi-cam lobes 1st and 2nd gear changes"... Bullsh*t, you just have to drive it like you stole it
  9. thanks, works great! My Vid is up in the corolla section
  10. When my gearbox and clutch was fixed i could do this all the time... http://media.putfile.com/Rolla_2zz
  11. At work at the moment, so have to wait till i get home to split the file.. I'll keep looking. I thought there was a celica site that had a gallery where you can post vids..
  12. How big is the video? If its under 5 meg you can email it to me and I will host it on AusXBox for you :). ← Thanks, but its 7mb... Any other suggestions?
  13. I wish to post a vid of my old car (sportivo) Can anyone suggest a good site where i can upload it, so i can post a link to view it here? Thanks
  14. Had my mine changed aswell back in Dec 03. I thought it was my drivin style, toyota tried to shift the blame on me. But they replaced the gear linkages and ran 50% motor oil and 50% tranny oil, and that improved it slightly. But then it came back, and they replaced the clutch under warranty and all was good from there..... The clutch was the problem.. Wasn't aligned correctly from FACTORY
  15. To be honest, I didn't relize that the lights were any different from standard. Can someone tell me the diff? I will have more pics and vids commin soon... :)
  16. My new ride... Veilside Body Kit Sports Exhaust 18,000 kms
  17. My car was looked at by toyota. 50% tranny + 50% motor oil feels a bit smoother and lighter to drive. But I found that you can shift fast like the old days still. The verdict: It's lighter and smoother to shift but still has a bit of tension up top when trying to go fast, i would say 80% there.
  18. I love my sportivo and all your guys input. But keep all your non-toyota related opinoins to yourself. Were here to enjoy the car and discuss the good and bad points of our rides, so we can overcome little problems and learn how to get the most out of toyota. We don't need intruders and they wont be tolerated as peekay stated. See you guys around the boards! :D My 2 cents.......
  19. A short shifter would be great guys, but i don't think it will simply fix the problem. The problem with the gearbox is that it is hard to pull back on the lever at 8k, the syncro's are getting jammed up at high rpm and it becomes harder to shift the closer you are to redline. So it might be wiser to change oil's / look at gear linkages from the the lever to the box, cause if there only slightly streatched the shifts would become inaccurate and feel notchy cause of the cables stretching from miss shifts and any sort of crunches and bangs you've herd before.
  20. I dont think optimax is responsible for a notchy gearbox. My car goes in on tuesday to be looked at by toyota. Hopefully they can look at all possible problems, like clutch, gear linkages, shifter arm and transmission oil.
  21. I use optimax 50% of the time. I dont see why you shouldn't, I know mobil synergy 8000 is cleaner but it cant be that much difference.
  22. The selling point of the car is it's motor. They say its got 141kw dont they? So why cant we use the 141kw, then change gear. Max power is at 7,800rpm so nobody could argue that you will void your warranty if you shift at redline. The person who advised about the 50 / 50 motor and tranny oil was a mechanic at my dealership. He will be doing the whole procedure under warranty.
  23. This is the second time i have complained about my gearbox to toyota. If anyone here, like me, has problems shifting 1st to 2nd gear change please read on and PM me your chassis number and rego number. Had my car looked at just before by a service guy at toyota, this is the second time he has drivin my car to see what the hells wrong with the gearbox He said the gearbox oil could have a little to do with the problem, he thinks when the car is in high revs (under more load) the syncros are not coping with the engine speed, and perhaps the oil used needs to be a thinner grade. There for freeing up the syncros at high revs, so you dont get that 'sticking feeling' as i like to discribe it. So his conclusion is to take one step at a time; 1. Drain my tranny oil and fill with 50% trans oil and 50% motor oil (he says it works a treat) If that dont work... 2. Gather all chassis numbers and rego numbers off all people who have the same or similar problems with there sportivos. So he can take action on this matter. So please guys, let me know if you want to sort this gearbox issue out. It seems like a few of us are experiencing similar shifting problems. Thanks guys.. :)
  24. Nice one! Yup, the sportivo is all about extracting the power! Your dam right about rolling starts, i've race WRX's from the lights and find it a little hard staying on there tail. But I have race them on FWY's and rolling in 2nd, and I'm telling you i beat them once i click third gear. New and old rex's, I love it
