Just wanted to update you all on my rav. Toyota have approved work for new pistons and rings to be installed and are awaiting the delivery of these parts. I don't know if that will fix the oil consumption? The rav had now been at the dealership for over a month and it was toyota warranty holding things up not out dealership. The dealership wanted a new motor installed however the warranty department said no. We don't know where the pistons are coming and our dealer said he really had no idea if this will solve the problem.

Also have all the extras and a $3500 bull bar and driving lights and 4 x new tyres worth a $1000 as the ones supplied fell apart after 5 months. All up my rav cost me about $42,000 and they offered me $21,000 buy back, well I told them where to shove their $21,000 and said I might be blond but I'm not stupid.

Well my rav has been at the dealership for a week now and my motor has been removed, the dealership have informed me that they are awaiting toyotas reply on what to do next. The dealership have informed me of what they would like to do but said toyota has the final say. I think toyota are happy to string us along and keep us waiting. Someone on here sold their rav back to toyota rather than getting it fixed and I'm curious as to what they offered you for your rav? Mine offered me $21,000 to buy mine back ( rav was 6 months old, I have an auto which cost an extra$3000 alone,

I'd say they dropped the V6 because it would have been cannibalising sales from the Kluger (which is 2GR-only) I am almost at the 60,000 k mark as I travel 1.5 hrs each way to work. Toyota at this stage are not committing to any parts until they get the motor out. They put me on this new oil a while ago and it didn't help, I was loosing around a litre of oil a fortnight. I honestly had to fight and fight to get them to do anything and made several complaints to the Toyota customer care number on their website. My dealership has a new Toyota kluger in at the moment ( same problem- using oil) and I know the v8 land cruisers also have this problem though they did respond to the synthetic oil. So it's not just our ravs with this problem.

If they suggest the imported pistons say no as they say they are still having problems with them

I've been on the synthetic oil for a while now it does not work. My rav goes in Monday to have the engine pulled out and investigated so I'll update you all after they do this. Toyota won't commit to any $$ until they know what's wrong with it.

Toyota have came back saying my car is using the correct oil and 1 week later it used another litre of oil. We have again logged a report and I'm told they plan to pull my motor apart ( this was a mechanic there that said this, the manager won't return my phone calls). I'm over being lied to by Toyota and my complaints not being taken seriously so I'm now logging a complaint with consumer affairs and putting this matter in the hands of my insurance company. Toyota don't want to honor their warranty and I'm now stuck with a car which uses 1 litre of oil a week ( how is this normal?). They offered me $21,000 for a trade in ( 6 months ago I paid almost $40,000) I have had enough of wasting my time ringing them only to be ignored.

I took my rav in to be checked in Wednesday and was told I had used 250mls of oil and only travelled 2500 Ks. My dealership has a new manager and he was brilliant and has logged everything with toyota for repair, he said it can take a week to hear back from toyota and that the deduction is toyotas whether to fix or not but he felt my oil usuage was excessive. I'll get back to you soon talbit with that number from my motor, I'm pretty sure mine is June 13 also ?? I will look at the book and car tomorrow

We checked our oil today and the level has dropped down to half, we only just had the new synthetic oil put in a week ago so based on this we are burning all our oil in 2 weeks ( the whole lot) so this new oil is not working. We were getting 5000ks before the oil ran out but now it's only 2 weeks. I'm going to call my dealer and take the car in this afternoon and try get them to order parts for my car or replace it. Enough is enough. I'm so over this problem and their lack of cooperation.

My dealer is well aware that there is a problem with this model. I am currently trialling this new synthetic oil, it's only been a week so far and I noticed the other day a slight drop in oil, I was meant to go back to the dealer today for a oil test but did not get a chance, I will go tomorrow afternoon or morning if the oil has dropped a lot. I will check the oil again in the morning. I have noticed better power performance with this new oil before the rav was sluggish and the performance was poor. If they change you to the synthetic oil make sure they change your oil filter as well. Something you may or may not be aware of is the v6 land cruisers made by Toyota also have an oil problem they were able to sort it out with this synthetic oil and last month a new klugar came in with the same problem ( this klugar was a petrol model not diesel). Makes you wonder why so many of their models have this problem. They are aware of this problem, they told me this to start with then the manager confirmed there are several diesel rav 4's presenting with this problem. I hope it's as simple as changing the oil but I find this most likely won't be the case but we can hope either way it's put me off buying another Toyota in the future. What gets me is there are so many other customers with this problem yet here we are proving to them that it's not our driving causing this problem, we should not have to prove anything. We did not do this to our cars, they didn't make them properly period. I will keep you all updated with this synthetic oil as I'm sure I will know pretty quickly if it works or not.

I hate to tell you all but it will only get worse. Let's get together and submit our dealers with everyone else's names and demand they get toyota to fix our cars or replace them. I was told there are two outcomes 1: they will give me a new car or 2: pull the motor apart. How can they sit back and do nothing when so many if us have this problem. Six months of fighting them and oil consumption tests and still waiting.

My 2013 diesel rav 4 has been using all it's oil every 5000 Ks and now it's using all my oil in 2 weeks, it has only 48,000 Ks, I don't tow anything and it's usually only 1 person in it. Toyota is aware there is a problem they monitor these forums but the problem is proving to toyota that they are at fault and not the person driving it. We have just trialled a synthetic oil ( doubt that will work). I want the car fixed I'm sick of being stuffed around. I have been told they will look at submitting my oil consumption tests later this month however if they do not I'm looking at trying to set up a class action law suit as we have warranty and the dealer said they know there is an issue. Not sure if any of you have noticed but I can tell when I'm burning oil on my rav ad you can smell the burnt oil smell in the car while driving.

I also Have a Toyota Rav 4 2013 diesel and I am at 40,000 ks now and since new I have been running out of oil every 5000ks. Toyota tell me they have never heard of this yet its all over the internet. I am pretty peed off as I brought a new car to avoid problems and now I am having oil dramas. No one seems to want to put it through warranty and keep fobbing me off even the manager. Last service they left my oil plug unsealed so now i have oil everywhere in my motor. I wont ever buy a toyota again and its no wonder they have gone out of business making them here. can I claim this problem through my insurance as I am not getting anywhere with the service department. They are telling me that I must get them to put the oil in and that I cant do it myself yet i live an hour and 10 minutes from them and getting them to do it for me is not always an option as sometimes it runs out so fast I cannot get to them in time.
