  1. I finished installing everything yesterday. The rear 6x9 caused the most problems, if you mount them too deep, they contact the boot springs, too high and they hit the parcel shelf. I used 6 mm ply for the base with 16mm MDF for the baffle. The boot spring still just contacts the left speaker when the boot is closed, so I put some clear rubber tubing over the spring to avoid vibration. The speakers were also still contacting the parcel shelf so I had to trim some plastic off the underside of the shelf to allow more room. It was a very tight fit but eventaully evrthing went into place. The fronts were a lot easier. I made the baffles just like in DKzr6's guide but to fit the round woofer and there was plenty of clearance either side. I mounted the crossover inside the door panel near the forward top part of the door. The tweeters are mounted on the little plastic panels that cover the screws holding the rear view mirrors on. I'll take some photos and post them tonight. I'm very happy with the sound, no unwanted vibrations at all. Definetly worth the effort but make sure you have a couple of days to work on it incase you run into any problems.
  2. I was thinking about it but decided to leave them in for the time being and seeing what it sounds like. If the distort too much I might just unplug them. I removed the front tweeter cover and had a look, their (approx) 2 inch cone speakers. The covers are quite tricky to get off, clips all across the bottom and along one side. I used a couple of peices of stainless steel sheet to unclip the cover without doing too much damage to the clips.
  3. Back view of stock front & rear. The replacement speakers I'll be using. Thanks again for the installation guide, I have refered to it a couple of times already. Should have everything in by tomorrow.
  4. I'm currently in the process off replacing the stock speakers with some pioneer splits for the front & 6x9's for the rear. I also could not believe the poor quality of the standard speakers. The rear ones weighed 290g and the front 300g as photographed. Compared to the replacement speaker 2090g rear & 1120g front. The speaker surrounds are very distorted too even though their only 3 weeks old. Stock rear speaker Stock front speaker. Comparison of new and old.
  5. Here's the the restrictive part where the two pipes off the exhaust manifold join to the 2.5 inch pipe. See how they have been squashed down to fit. This is one of the reasons I believe the car would benefit from a full twin system.
  6. SX6 & ZR6 sporty? Yes! Muscle? I don't think so. Unless you just graduated from a four cylinder (not that there's anything wrong with them) A bit of silver just adds distinction.
  7. Yeah, I just bought my ZR6 because I liked the grill A few people I know of have replaced the sportivo grill with the presara/prodigy grill (me being one). The Prodigy/Presara grill really sets off the front of a Black aurion because of the chrome highlights. There is no aftermarket grill replacement I know of if thats what you are asking.
  8. Thanks for your input, it's good hearing from someone who has actually had something done. How much did they charge you for the TRD filter & is it a paper element or a washable?
  9. Nice... I was going to get a dyno done before and after the exhaust and intake to see what the difference is like :) I would be there in a flash to see how quicker the aurion is and how much better it sounds.. Mabey a quick drag race to see if there is any noticable difference down stuart highway ;) ill pm you my details soon I was hoping they had a dyno there, if not, do you know any in Darwin. I wont get a chance to dyno it before but I should be able to get it done afterwards. If you can get yours dyno'd before, I'll take mine to the same place to have a comparison. Or as you stated, we can test them the old fashioned way, down the Stuart Hwy. Hopefully there's not to much rain around.
  10. I rang D&T myself and then spoke to my wife. She's more excited about it then me. I booked us in for th 26 of November. Soloman, If you don't get it done before me, I'll have to try and catch up with you that afternoon to see what you think. D&T in Adelaide has done a few Aurions already. They use a full twin system, running 2" to 2 1/4 out the rear. I was told it gives a very nice Rev orientated note, no drone what so ever. They are also going to do it fully polished for free to photograph and use as a display on thier website.
  11. Have you decided yet if you are going to go ahead with it?
  12. Mine works great but it's still new. We drove from Darwin to Katherine (300km) a couple of weeks ago after picking up the car. We had the aircon set on 26 deg and fan speed on low, anything higher and it was too cold, and it's like 40 deg up here at present. It seems fine around town too, although my wife is the main one who drives it, I haven't had any complaints about it yet, believe me when I say if it wasn't working I would have heard about it by now. I get constant complaints about how crap the speakers are and about how it needs a decent exhaust Think there must be more problems with your car. Good luck with all your efforts, hopefully they do the right thing and either fix it like new or give you a new car.
  13. Thanks, I'll definitely be interested. D&T Performance Exhaust in Adelaide made my system for my commodore about 8 years ago. I was very happy with their work. Reasonably priced too, I paid around $1200 for extractors and a full 3" stainless system custom made.
  14. Just found out the TRD does run a different exhaust set up. A specially developed sports exhaust supplied by Tenneco Automotive reduces exhaust back pressure by 15% to work more effectively with the TVS blower. Taken from this article: http://www.webwombat.com.au/motoring/news_.../trd-aurion.htm Also mentioned here: http://www1.autotrader.com.au/mellor/mello...8C?OpenDocument APC enhancements in Perth told me they have not done a full system on an Aurion yet. They have however replaced the dual mufflers for a customer but they said it produced a droning sound, but the custumer was happy with it. I was quoted around $1400 for a cat back system but would perfer to do the whole system. As mentioned in a previous post the standard exhaust looks very restrictive at the point it joins into one. I'll just have to wait until I get to Perth for them to look a the vehicle and make some recommendations.

    My ZR6

Yes, they're standard. We'll probably get custom plates when we get to Perth. Not sure what we will get on them though.

    My ZR6

I only drove the car about 20km with the standard wheels on so it's hard to make the comparison, but the steering is not heavy at all now. I really doubt that bigger wheels and 60mm more rubber on the road would make a great deal of difference.

    My ZR6

I've still got the stock 17's. I'll try and sell them when I get to Perth. I'll probably be easier to find a buyer down there.
  18. Looks nice, When I had the king springs in mine it didn't look even, the rear looked lower than the front. Yours looks nice and even. I will definitely try the Pedders when I get the chance.

    My ZR6

I Picked my ZR6 on last weekend, it was actually a couple of weeks ahead of schedule. I would have preferred to wait until the car was lowered before posting photos but I encountered a problem. I fitted my 20" wheels and took the car to L&S springs in Darwin to have Lowered King springs fitted. The guys there spent 4 hours fitting the springs only to find that with the bigger wheels and 245 tyres it was going to scrub the inside of the rear guards, so they had to refit the standard springs. It was a $200 lesson. (They told me I didn't have to pay anything but they worked until 4pm on Saturday so I couldn't give them nothing) Spoke to the company that lowered the Aurion in one of my previous posts http://au.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/inde...showtopic=12322 They said they used Pedders springs and they had no problems so I'll have to give them a shot. Only thing is I'm moving to Perth in 3 weeks time so it will have to wait until I get there. Have to post the pics over a couple of posts because they are fairly big.
