  1. I had this problem a 2003 SPortivo I owned. I kep taking back to Toyota & they tried to blame anything & everything that was modified on my car. The noise was so painful that I changed all my modifications back to standard & found that the noise was still there, surprise, surprise. I went back to Toyota & told them to keep the car until they figure out what is wrong. After about 7 working days (it was a hassle being without my car) I got a phone call from the service manager advising thay had located the problem. I was told the bracket that holds the alternator had come lose. When I took off from stand still in particular, it put the bracket under load & it would rattle. Once this was fixed probelm went way never to return. Fortunaltey for me this was all covered by Warranty.

Toyota is hopeless. All they want to do is hook the car up to a computer, if the computer says everything is O.K. than according to them there is nothing wrong & nothing they can for you. It was only though my persistance & constand arguing that the problem was fixed. I would have liked to send Toyota an invoice for all the time of mine that they wasted with their poor customer service & there biligerent attititude to resolving issues out of the norm.

    I hope this helps

  2. Hi Guys,

After my unfortunate incident with an electric gate not picking up it's sensor and scratching my rear passenger door, I had the rear door reprayed and have only just noticed over the w/end that in strong direct sunlight the freshly painted door skin looks like a darker black in colour.

I wasnt sure if it was just my eyes or if it was the way the black metallic paint reflects off the sun and light

I was hoping to get some your thoughts and feedback especially from the guys who have a black stivo and have had it reprayed. This way I can set my mind at ease! :D

    Cheers all

    Everything JJCRU23R said is true.

Re-Sprays never match perfectly although a good painter should be able to get it pretty close. If you aren't happy with the finish I would take it back & ask them to do it again. problem is it means you will be without your car again.

  3. Hey ive got a corolla ascent 1zz-fe.. it is fairly new only done 27000kms...

Ive noticed on a cold engine start it blows quite a bit of white smoke which has a burning smell. Im thinking it could possibly be a head gasket but the car seems to be too new to have such a problem..

It goes away once the car is warmed up..

Any suggestions would be much appreciated

All cars blow white smoke on a cold morning when the engine is cold, its nothing to be concerned about. When you car blows black smoke is when you should get worried. Has you car been serviced on its schedule?

  4. I find it strange that you all have problems with NRMA. I have my car modified & I have all the modifications listed on my NRMA premium. They advised me that if the car is within RTA guidelines then they will insure it. I asked them if the limit was 30mm for lowering & they said no. They even covered my wheels for 3k & my exhaust for 1K & it didn't affect the cost of the premium. I'm aware of the issues Dennis had but maybe because I'm over thirty & I get treated a little different.

Also, NRMA have scraped the policy they had with No Choice of Repairer due to backlash from the industry & consumers. You can now take the car to were ever you want. I think that NRMA are desperate for customers at the moment because so many people left them.

  5. With the popular brands, I don't think you can really go wrong. I use a Sony DSC-T7 and find it to be pretty good but deffinately not bang for your buck. It's more a design and compact thing you pay for. Possibly within your price range if you bargain hard. The T5 is more affordable and 5MP too.

Canons are also awesome cameras too. For $385, that's a good price. If $450 if your max that's a great choice man. You can get the 6MP Ixus 65 for around $500 from JB. Kinda not worth it for an extra MP.

Sony Camera's are expensive because they use CARL ZEISS lenses which are supposed to be one of the best lenses in the world. Having said that my friend has just purchased a KODAK Z740, 5MP, 10 x Optical Zoom, 5 x Digital Zoom for $299 & in my opinion it is far better than my Sony & less than half the price.

The biggest problem with Digital Camera's is the delay between when you push the button & when the photo is actually taken. If you plan on taking action shots than you'll need a camera that is fast of which most of the cheaper one's are pretty slow.

    To Charms.

The finepix camera you mention is the same as the one we have at work & I find it to be good, although I have only ever used it for taking stills, don't know how well it handles action shots.

  6. Chopin & Changin lanes doesn't work out very well in Sydney as was proved to me yesterday. I left my house yesterday to go to a mates place, it was 3.00 in the afternoon so you would think that there would be less cars on the road than normal. After turning out of my street a guy went past me in a late model Prelude. For 15km's this guy was dodging & weaving trying to get through the traffic & I just stayed in my lane & stuck to the speed limit & I caught up to him with every red light of which I bet this driver didn't even realise. The only thing this guy acheived was to ***** all the people that he cut in front in his arrogant attempt to get somewhere & I bet if anyone said anything to him he would be out the window spitting out all kinds of abuse.

I think its best to save your fast driving for the middle of the night as it doesn't get you anywhere during the daytime in Sydney anyway, the traffic is just to damn heavy. Besides, the only person that ends up with ****s when you try & battle traffic is yourself.

Iv noticed this often!! especially with the timing of the traffic lights in traffic you have no chance!

Very true in many cases...i agree.... it gets u no where weavin in n out of traffic during traffic times...

I"m more so talkin bout outside those peak times...lolz

thus said...i'm surprised how many pplz are eager to get home in the arvo and drive in n out...where as in the mornings...pplz seem to just cruise...:huh:

The situation I described happened on a Sunday Afternoon, where I live it seems to be peak hour all the time, there's no escape. Sydney traffic sucks.

I'm definately one of those people thats crusies to work & then rushes home all though I do find that I'm more relaxed when I get home if I just take it easy.

  8. will it effect the warranty if i supply my own oil????

as long as the oil is within the normal operating limits as specified by toyota in the car manual then nope it wont void ur warrenty.

For the record im a royal purple man myself http://www.royalpurple.com/prodsa/rpmoa.html ... and before anyone asks .... yes the colour of the oil is actually purple :P :P :P :P :P :P

Can't speak highly enough of Royal Purple, best oil I have used. I use 10W40 & find it gives more power & keeps the enigine noise down.

Having said that has anyone used Penrite HPR oil, in particular 5W40?

  9. If the Porsche tyre has the same profile but is wider than the tyre wall would be larger on the Porsche as profile is a ratio of the width. This is only a minor thing, the quality of suspension components & their design would be the key to a more stable ride.

I have never heard of a car that has no springs, seems a bit strange.

  10. They are pretty quiet & give a reasonable gain. They also guarantee NO cabin drone which can be a problem with some aftermarket brands. They are by no means the best out there but they are one of few who make Mufflers specifically for the 1z & 2z Corolla's. Having said that you won't get one for under $850 fitted which alot people feel is to much money just for a Muffler.

I will be be at the meet this weekend so you will get an idea of what I mean if your there. :D

  11. The "NASHO" road between Engaine & Stanwell is a shocking road for potholes, it's a shame cause its got some great corners. 15 years ago it was a lot smoother & a hell of a drive.

If you got some decent shocks or Coilovers you will notice a big improvment. Another thing that makes the road feel bumpier are low profile tyres. If the Porshe is running standard wheels then it probably has reasonable tyre profile to absorb the bumps. If you are runnning 17" than your tyre profile will be very low.

A Sportivo unforunatley will never handle like a true sports car for many reasons, Some of those reasons are it doesnt have IRS & its front wheel drive.

If you live in Sydney you should come along to one of our meets.

  12. you going to get it and keep it stock? or you looking at the turbo version?

No Turbo. Just a quality run about that I can put the baby in & not worry about it. I've even been looking at 2000-2002 Camry's, I know they are a Grandpa car but there a good size for carrying baby stuff around. I'm putting my 04 up for sale this week. It's now back to stock as I've put all my parts on to my 05. I will be asking $22500 Neg for the 04 if you know anyone who's interested. I will also be putting a post up on the Forum in the Buy/Sell section.

  13. The Sportivo Muffler probably has better flow than the Muffler on the 1Z, but it is still more restrictive than an after market model. Although if noise is an issue for you than the Sportivo muffler may be just what you are looking for.

The piping on a Sportivo is 2.25", which is very large for standard piping but this size might be a bit to big for the 1Z. I'm sure there a plenty of people with more knowledge than me on the 1Z but in my opinion I would suggest 2" piping with a dual tip muffler. In the long run I'm sure you would be much happier. I would talk to CORRZA, the system on his Levin looks & sounds great & is not overly loud.

  14. Thanks for everyone's advise.

Rolla-Boy, I really like what you have done with your ride, looks great. I appreciate your comments, with all your experience with this model you must have quite a bit of knowledge. It's good to know that there are no substantial manufacturing issues that i should be on the look out for. :)
