guys the guage on the dash is too inconsistant and there is too much variations in it. there cannot be a correct reading from that. the only way to tell is using a hand held scanner and recording the data to check for inconsistancies. otherwise it will be how many k's to a tank. despite that many different road conditions would apply to fuel consumption. load on the engine, temperature, quality of the fuel etc. there are many factors considered in getting a proper fuel consumption test, that it is really hard to say exactly how much fuel the car is drinking.

no unfortunately you cant get a refund for your car. if only it was that simple.

Hi, New here!
westerntoyotatechnician replied to rpereira's topic in Corolla / Corolla Sportivo Club
to answer your question. yes it is possible [anything is] but it pointless doing this because there isnt enough air mass/flow going into the engine at that rev range, it would just bog down. toyota have spent millions of dollars designing this motor, so im sure this is the most powerful and economical range to keep the high cam lobes in, anything less would be a waste -

Spring opinion
westerntoyotatechnician replied to westerntoyotatechnician's topic in Suspension & Brakes
well i ended up with the lows. although i didnt have much time to do it at work cause we were flat chat. i had to do it over a two day period. yesterday i could only do the fronts. nevertheless it looked like a damn 60's hot rod. i fitted the rear this morning and a wheel alignment after work. finally no more 4wd stance. -
Ill keep this simple guys. 05 stivo, stock wheels king springs lows or super lows. really scratching my head on the decision for this one. a couple of questions come to mind. do the super lows scrub at all. i would also like to see some cars with the super lows as i cannot find very many fotoz of members cars that have them. so any help you guys can assist me with would be great. i have been told that the super lows were too low [hence their name]. but i would still rather judge for myself.

Catback Exhaust
westerntoyotatechnician replied to negatron's topic in Corolla / Corolla Sportivo Club
a catback exhaust is everything from the catalytic converter back. so you get the cat, pipe and muffler. hence its name cat-back. -
TRD CAI
westerntoyotatechnician replied to westerntoyotatechnician's topic in Corolla / Corolla Sportivo Club
i have tried about 10 different locations of placement of the filter, but if i go too high the filter gets jammed against the body of the car. the foglight hits it regardless of placement. im only around the corner from Micks Metalcraft anyways so ill go and get the bent rubber boot and then reinsert the foglight [or maybe not]. -
After a few weeks of being screwed around, i have finally come across the cai and installed it. Little did i know that the facelift stivo didnt cater to the CAi as well as i would have liked. but it still works and runs fine [minus a foglight, but you get booked for having them on anyway]. so yet again i am as happy as larry. and i can honestly say that the induction noise is absolutely to die for. My girlfriend wont get in the car any more. oh well. haha

The problem i think some of you guys are talking about is what toyota call JARRA noise. Its a noise in the gearbox caused by backlash of the gears turning which is mostly noticeable during downchanging. i realise that having excessive backlash will cause gear damage and premature failure, but toyota has not acknowledged this as a problem. so relax guys my car does it aswell. so if im not too concerned about it, i dont think you guys should be either. i understand it is so bloody annoying but there is basically nothing to be done about it, its just the way the box is made. thanx for listening, or reading even. ha

Gear change issues
westerntoyotatechnician replied to Rev29K's topic in Corolla / Corolla Sportivo Club
yeah there are spots where you can watch but are not allowed in the workshop due to insurance purposes and basically if a car falls on you, you know that sort of bull. as about the clutch pedal fix. i was unaware up until yesterday afternoon that we did not get payed by TMCA for doing them, this is why you should have to take them back to the dealer. My boss this morning pulled me up for saying that we will do them to all cars. i then got him to change his mind and said keep doing what i am doing. so guys we CAN do the adjustments i have been told. if you have any problems, speak with the service manager. -

The only reason you were told to take it back to the dealer is due to the fact toyota wont pay us for doing the work thats the only reason. the tighta$$es. i dont see why toyota have advised the dealers about this due to the fact most of the dealers dont know anything about it anyway. its a damn shame. usually they are pretty good when it comes to this stuff. -
Here it is guys. Some of you might have trouble loosening the pushrod nut. try using a stubby spanner and go in through the side of the housing bracket. But firstly before you do this, remove carpet mats etc.

sportivo gearbox thumps
westerntoyotatechnician replied to SIVART's topic in Corolla / Corolla Sportivo Club
i dont think it was a faulty gearbox. sounds more driving habit to me. these motors do come pre run in but they are run in without much load on them so there is not much stress on the engine. so theoretically they are run in to a degree. i gave my car a bit of stick before it started to loosen up. i havent gievn the gearbox hardly any hard work due to the fact that the gearboxes are the strongest box in the world. and plus im sick of fixing the boxes. haha. the mechanics will know your driving style dude so all im saying in cover your own ***** for warranty purposes. because some places will see a lot of signs that car was under an enourmous stress load and not give warranty. i know this because we have denied warranty on a customers car before. the car got towed in, clutch was completely gone (03' Stivo Brand spanka....in that time). there was 1,500 kms on the clock. front tyres bald down to wire, extreme flat spots on rear tyres. front tyre giblets on inside of the guard. we knew it was thrashed beyond limitation. he went balistic when he didnt get warranty. cost him a pretty penny too. so i guess its luck of the dice with stuff like that. sorry to ramble guys, just felt in the mood to tell a nice story. ha -

bring it to western toyota in guildford i do them on a day in day out basis. i am not being biased or anything because i work there, we are a monitor dealership which in turn TMCA relies on these dealerships to mainly deal with a lot of the technical customer service complaints, therfore we touch a lot of warranty issues others will not. -
05 SPORTIVO TEST DRIVE
westerntoyotatechnician replied to SILVABULLIT's topic in Corolla / Corolla Sportivo Club
bought a silver 05 stivo 2 weeks ago i had driven alot of 04 stivos in my time at toyota and loved them from day one, i was going to get one but this was at the time we had all the gearbox and clutch adjustment problems. this turned me off them quickly. i thought id wait to see what toyota could produce the second time. i had a test drive and clearly, fell back in love again. i then bought one as soon as i had the chance and a little bit of moolah. now a very happy chap. good work toyota! -

hey guys, new to the forum For a 2005 Sportivo i understand that Powerchip gold 98 = $1900 and unichip is about $1100 bucks. Has anyone out there invested in the powerchip. I am interested in a ECU chip but i need some feedback on both of them. I hear good things about the unichip in sportivos, but havnt heard much about the new powerchip. Any comments, even comparisons. It just has my knickers in a twist atm.
