  1. enjoying that car............. its another world out there for VIPs i wish more were into it. I'd like to do more to mine but $$$ are goin elsewhere for the time being.

Where'd u get those wheels bangn if you don't mind me asking? Maybe i might upgrade sooner than expected.....

  2. this is an interesting topic.... if your running a 600rms amp why aren't you using a 2 gauge or even 0 gauge? you'd have a better flow. I'm running a 0 gauge to a distributor which sits 15cm from my amp and i've got 1 8 gauge going into my rockford lenght of that is only 30cm. I also have a spare set up for a second amp which i use in db drags, good ol 1501bd. But seriously your really restricting breathing of those amps even though there's ample room for air, there's no fresh air circulating the amp. Its nice though really good effort making it clean. I really didn't have a choice in mine, i couldn't bare go back to a single sub. So i have to deal with a dual and amp mounted on the back of box. If you have the factory battery, that's just ridiculous, your lights will dim, definately would need a capacitor with the system your running. That and a decent battery.

  3. got a question regarding the cd/mp3 player in the corolla..

when u play a music cd (not mp3) before you start up your car.. and then start it up... does the cd player freeze ? this has occurred a couple of times.. and im jus wondering if this is normal ...

    cheers

it shouldn't!!! unless lens are dirty and unable to read, or disk is damaged

  4. although, nothing like changing coolant every year?? 2 years is a lot of time havin crud run through.

long life or short life, i'd be doing mine yearly regardless of coolant. Ofcourse use reccomended coolant.

    Tap Water.

Can anyone answer this: How do you flush your radiator and engine of coolant just using bottled distilled water???

Draining ur radiator won't keep it clean. There's still the water that flows through the engine. I mean you probably could use bottled water but that would take alot of water......

Does toyota service use distilled or tap?

  5. Many times before i've had this thought.

But yes it all depends what you can afford at the time.

On my old ride i got my wheels first, then got my bodykit fitted (next day) 3 days later i got my suspension customised to legal height 10cm lowest point of car.

This little adventure in 1 hit is very expensive. But to help i would buy the kit first and hang on to it til you have money for wheels and suspension.

But if looks aren't your thing, then i'd be getting wheels that are lightweight.

Cheap chromies from tempe or bsa are very heavy.

    dats my 2 cents..

  6. Its not bad. Its just that if it was a wet day, at such a low speed on runabout, the car would just understeer bad. I don't have problems with it on wet days, but on runabout I just have to take pre-cautions, because it happened three times so far and it can happen again. They tyres, to me its good, am not too sure about track or what, but its been two years and it doesn't fail me :) However, yes I know this is a suspension problems in my case.

i had the exact problem on my old ride. custom suspension no give at all... rollin on pirelli's pzeros.. wet i could almost drift!!!!!!!! very bad handling in wet. so i just didn't drive hard.

but now on my rolla with the F1's its excellent.!!! and not so stiff suspension.

  7. I flogged the crap out of my modded 5-speed rex for four years straight and it never had a problem with the box.  I used a stock clutch though.

I've seen a lot of C series toyota boxes fail (same family as the sportivo 6-speed)

For a box that will take all the abuse you can throw at it, mod the bellhousing on an E58 from a GZE and use a custom clutch to mount it to the ZZ motor, then you get a box and shafts that can take a decent amount of abuse (400hp ATW is fine)

what model rex? flogging and trashing a car doesn't mean you dump clutches and slam gears.... you can be a spirited driver and yet retain a good shifting skill.

  8. I'll have to disagree with you there.

The 6-speed will break if you're putting out enough power to beat a stock rex, especially if you install a LSD and decent clutch (which are required if you even hope to get near a well-driven stock rex.)

The box will only break if driven improperly. Having had a turbo car and knowingly not to dump clutches and slamming gears you know how to drive. It will last as long as you drive it properly.

Subie's don't have the strongest gearboxes and if driven hard it will break.

Mate has a my98 replaced 2 dog boxes already because he does dump and slam. (never learns)

Toyota has decent gearboxes and stivo's being the car that they are (sports) toyota would of made sure they have a strong box. And yes you'll mention your turboing a stivo.... well like i stated its how its driven. It just won't break because u turbo the car... Ask anyone who owns a turbo car they all know.

If its any consolation its not hard to beat a stock rex. e.g. MR98 lancer 1.8lt with a subie turbo and intercooler no internal mods just heavy duty clutch. Smashes stock rex's. With stock gearbox.

  9. not worth it,

    1. still new and will cost heaps

    2. no one is aware of problems this may cause

    3.running and mantaining cost

4.insurance - how much you willing to pay

    5. will need more parts that whatis inclused

If you got the money to spend, then go ahead why not, but for the average person your better of getting something else that comes stock with tubo simply because quality is guranteed and warraty covered. XR6 turbos are dominating the turbo car market. Of couse we would all love to see somehting diffrent like a stivo but i guess you will have to wait a few years :)

    worth it.

    1. New and a weapon

    2. Everyone knows what to look for when turboing a car. Or else why do it if noone knew?

    3. Running and maintaining costs comes down to driver and how the car is driven, same as if you had a subie/xr6T/skyline/s13/s14 etc etc.

    4. Insurance again same as if you had any turbo car, if anything more for a Subie due to high rate of getting jacked.

    5. Parts would be cheaper. e.g. if you had a standard subie turbo you would wanna change everything from boost controller to turbo to front mount etc etc. Turboing a stivo - well it wasn't turbo before and its turbo now so ur buying the gear once. Subie $40k or so + mods $10k, Stivo $30k + mods $10k, plus the stivo would whoop *****!!!! you do the figures......

stock subie would get blitzd by a turbo stivo.

also more can go wrong with a subie than a stivo. :)

    ask any toyota owners.

  10. This might be a little bit late now, but i was in the same situation 12months ago. I wanted to invest on a house but wasn't confident about a massive debt at this age. I decided to sell my current car and i bought my rolla which i have today. Ive had my rolla for about 12months now and half way paying it off. I'm going to stick it out paying off my rolla then buy a house.

Eddy, I'd be buying a house as soon as you can man, if you have the opportunity go for it. Market is always rising in house prices. If you plan to buy live in it for a year. If your finding it hard in that year then move back with olds and rent it for a while. But for you to be able to rent it you have to live in it for a year. The reason for that is the banks. If your renting and not living its a investment loan (high interest). To be able to get a homeloan and rent at the sametime you have to live in it for a year.

Good luck with the decission. 5yrs ago i said i should of bought. 5 yrs from now i'll be saying i should of bought. There's never a better time than today :D. Ofcourse you have to be able to afford it.

  11. sorry to hear..........

judging by the picture i'm not sure how much internal damage its caused but this has happened to a few friends of mine.. mostly subie's and its not a cheap job... cost at around $1000 depending if any damage has been done to axle etc etc... i wouldn't be driving around too much with it on. take a few pics with and without the wheel and borrow a car and ask a few places.

just to keep things on the positive... was it fun? how did u do that?
