Is the TRD parts buy being organised in the same fashion? Can we also expect parts in a fortnight?

  3. Ok... you must be getting sick of me spamming the thread it seems.

I figured he was from Melbourne when you said it in your previous post, I was more wondering where-abouts in Melbourne, so I knew where I'd have to go to pick up the parts in future.

    Nevermind.

  4. Just wondering how your friend was able to drive a Supercharged T-Sport Corolla in Japan if they were only availbale in Europe????

Also I believe but could be wrong but the Compressor T-Sport has 230NM of Torque compared to the Astra's 250NM, not a huge difference.

Many people including Journo's have said the Sportivo lacks bottom end, yet no one says this about the 1zz motors & they have less torque than the Stivo. I also think this comment is blown out or proportion because when you a driving your car hard the Rev's will be high not low & this is were the 2zz comes into its own.

Toyota has a technical centre called Higashi-Fuji. A lot of dynamic tuning and development is done there. Camry suspension tuning for example.

This is where my friend drove these vehicles and managed to sneak a look at the new Corolla chassis.

I'm just relaying what his opinion was of the vehicle. Comparing peak torque levels without mentioning at what RPM they occur is pretty futile.

Your example comparing the 1ZZ and 2ZZ misleading. THe 1ZZ is not critisized for its bottom end for a number of reasons. Such as, it's only about 9nm less than the Stivo yet the peak torque is about 2-3000 rpm sooner. Plus it's not a 'Performance' vehicle like the Stivo is, so you cant compare them.

As I said, in my friends opinion, he was slightly disappointed with the performance of the Compressor T-Sport. But then, maybe he expected a little more from a $47,000 vehicle....

  5. Alright, this is getting ridiculous.

I'll nominate myself as the postage place for Melbourne, you can ship the parts to my work in Port Melbourne.

If not, can you please give me the details of who you're purchasing from and whether they can do me the same deal.

  6. I've tested a few of those at work.

They're a good thing for a couple of main reasons:

Completely self-contained unit. Simply drop in the dash and attach the GPS antenna. - no more dvd reader in the boot.

The unit now supports a lot more colours, so the maps look nice as do the menus. Plus you get the excellent quality of Toyota's sat-nav.

Unfortunately, I was dissappointed that the unit, as far as audio, is pretty much the same. The AVS has a few adjustable preset levels, but nothing extraordinary, and the EQ is the same Treble Bass Mid adjustment. *** I'd love parametric in a stock HU.

Anyway, its a good thing, but probably insanely expensive.

  7. OK Otaku, please clarify - in your above statement, are you comparing the new 4cyl with the old 4cyl, or the 6cyl?

You state a couple of times throughout this thread that the Australian Avalon will be different to the American version, but in what way? I think that if you know something then you should tell us.

But having said all that, to me an Avalon is an Avalon and I will look good in one with my beige cardigan on, but it still will not have anything like the trade-in value that it should have and I subsequently will not accept such a loss in value for the sake of a Toyota 6cyl.

A case in point is the Mitsubishi 380. Car of the year in 2005 by some reputable car magazines, and I have driven one and it is indeed a joy to drive. But at the end of the day we punters still see it as a Magna (despite the name change) and treat it accordingly. Mitsubishi are currently making more than they can sell and are already discounting on a regular basis to get them out on the roads. The first of the secondhand units are now appearing in the yards already at 75% of their original retail value, so it doesn't look good for the 2005 COTY. I see a similar parallel for the 2006 Avalon.

-Above, I was comparing the new 4-cylinder to the current 4-cylinder.

-The problem with the 380 is that it looks like a Magna. ;)

-I'm not willing to give further detail on the Avalon replacement other than to say that it's not an Avalon.

Apparently the new Camry will not be shown in Melbourne but the replacement of the Avalon will be shown alongside a performance version of the same vehicle.

-You may be right, I've heard different though.

I apologise guys, I'm not trying to stir things up, I just don't want you to be dismissive of the new vehicles before you know all the details.

  8. Within reason, any increase in brake effectiveness you're gonna achieve by going from single to twin piston brake calipers, you could probably achieve simply by upgrading to higher μ brake pads.

The trade off is that with higher μ pads you'll possibly get more brake squeal.

Upgrading your calipers is probably not worth it in my opinion.

  9. Wait for the Melbourne motorshow. ;)

Regarding your question, I'm hesitant to answer on these forums so instead I'll quote someone else:

"The American-made hybrid is the first time Toyota has manufactured one outside of Japan.

Buttner says: "There was no reason why the hybrid could not be built in Australia." However, the company will wait to see what its acceptance is like in the US first. "It is not likely to be here before 2008.""

  10. What toyota is doing with the camry/avalon engine spec is understandable as they sell something like 4:1 of 4/6cyl, but FORCING people like barryc to either accept an avalon or walk away if he wants a 6cyl is shameful.

The 6cyl camry is a sensational drive, my friend has the vienta '02 and its a syrupy drive with the (just ok but gr8 for everyday driving) grunt is superb. Toyota shouldn't force 6cyl buyers into an avalon.

I have seen the US version of our avalon update when I was there 4 weeks ago, and it's a much better looking car, I personally don't mind it, but in todays day of MINIMUM impact for a vehicle over its life, surley a 6 camry would be slightly more economical than an avalon on brakes/tyres/fuel, and over 15 years of someone driving this vehicle, that adds up to a fair bit.

If Jim and Joan don't need the space of the avalon (it's a pretty big MOFO) and jim likes the grunt, why cant he have a V6 Camry???

Let's also bear in mind that the new cammy is heavier, so it will be likley be same or slower than current model, I know toyota are tweaking the engine for the new model, but I doubt the new one will be as quick or any quicker than the current spec, which as a 4cyl I have found to be a pretty decent day-to-day drive if you don't care much for go.

I'm telling you the 4cyl doesn't feel slower than current model, and the handling has improved greatly.

Also, forget what you've seen of the American Avalon.
