Hi guys,

On the weekend I blue print my air box and air intake tube that has flow meter on it. I smoothout all the moulding seams and fins inside the box....and this morning, after 40kms of driving in city going to work. My fuel consumption dropped from 6.8 liter/100km-last week to 6.00. At one stage it went down to 5.9. I have not changed my driving habbits and tell me is this because, the car now is running leaner..I heard that, if the engine runs lean(to a point), it actually produces more power than rich but hotter. You experts out there can tell me why this is happening,,,,,,,

Thanks

I'm no expert but the way I understand it is, most new cars are tuned slightly rich from factory as a protective measure. With the work you did to the intake, you've made an improvement to the airflow, and therefore efficency of the engine, so that explains your lower consumption.

To my understanding, you wont have to worry the engine leaning out, because the MAF will detect the volume/velocity/density of the incoming air and adjust fuel and spark accordingly.
