HELP..Idling too rich

Axel

Recommended Posts

My 93 Corolla has started idling too rich.

The idle is 'bouncing' between 300 and 800 rpm and blowing smoke.

Occasionally on idle the tacho seems to give a 'twitch'.

On acceleration from a stand still I get large amounts of smoke.

Driving is smooth when accelerating but jumping/jerking when holding low speeds.

I did an ECU reset and nothing changed except the blinkers stopped working.

Any ideas would be great.

Is the smoke blue-ish? And only happens after idle or low/no throttle such as going downhill?

If so it sounds like your valve stem seals need replacing.

I can't explain the other behavour other than the oil is maybe flooding the engine a bit and causing the idle to play up.

Thanks for that.

I found the problem, I'd knocked the vacuum hose off the vaccuum sensor.

Reconnected it and all is running fine.

Blinkers still don't work but the same thing happened with them a couple of weeks ago after disconnecting the battery and they came back after a couple of days...Wierd!

The up and down rpm thingy in low idleing is called IDLE HUNTING.

Clean your air flow metre, also try replacing a new airfilter.

Hopefully that whud help.

Considering he said he fixed the problem by fixing the connection to the VACUUM SENSOR, aka MAP sensor, this means that

a ) the problem is fixed

b ) he doesn't have an air flow meter, or AFM (AE92s had MAP sensors)

Yeah i thought so he didnt have the AFM. If he did have the afm then that will be 100% problem. I use to have 32 GTR it happan to me. AFM was cause the problem.
