Can any battery place do this or do I need to go to Toyota I just had a mate who had a problem and the code was removed any he was unable to open his car

The remotes for Toyota's remote central locking is a non-recodeable system. In other words, removing the battery will not reset the code inside of it. You can feel free to change the battery yourself by popping it open (not sure if your remote may have a screw or not, but it should be pretty straight forward).

There is a small phillips head screw that needs to be removed, and no it won't reset anything and will work fine with a new battery.
