Hello Everyone,

I have recently gotten hold of a 1991 Celica SX and was wondering about the sunroof as im pretty new to the whole celica scene.

The sunroof is working fine and has no leaks but when i go to close it from either the angled position or the slid back position, its kind of a guess as to where its closed.

I have realized with other cars you can usually press the button or hold it and it will click into the closed position and then you re-press or re-hold the button for it to continue opening further.

Was just wondering if there is meant to be a point where it stops and lets u know its closed or if its meant to be a guess as to where the right "point" is so to speak.

I have gotten the hang of it and it is not really an issue for me, hopefully heavy rain doesn't prove me wrong though. But i would still like to know if it is a sunroof issue that i have or a factory feature.

Cheers

Just hold the button till its completely down or shut... it has no mechanism for telling you.

Yeah but say your sunroof is completely open, when you go to close it theres no real indication as to where it is shut or not, because if you hold it it will go past the close spot and start opening on an angle. So its a bit of a guess as to the point of it being closed. And i wouldn't expect this to be factory, just want to know if it is or not.

I just hold the button on mine untill the panel stops moving...

hmm, maybe yours is different. Does it open both ways? as in it can slide all the way back so u can stand up. but if u go the other way it will just pop the rear side up on an angle getting some air in?

Cos if i go to close mine and i hold it, it will just go past the "close" point and start opening, so i have to kind of stop it and hope im at the right spot as for water to not seep in. Sorry for bugging you, just got car and wondering if it was meant to be like that or not.

Cheers.

Mine opens all the way up, or i can tilt it upwards on maybe a 5 deg angle (open at the back)... and is operated by two buttons

Our '88 ST162 has a factory sunroof with 2 rocker-switches, one for tilt (open and close) and one for slide (open and close). If the sunroof isn't seated in the exact neutral position, the other switch won't work (ie if it is tilted up then the slide switch won't do anything, and vice versa).

ohh ok mines different, only has 1 switch. maybe thats why it seems confusing when i try to explain it. well i just washed the car and no water leaked in so as long as i keep closing it like i am i guess ill be fine.

thanks for all the info guys,

Cheers.

Mine has the exact same setup as this.... so i guess yours is diff.
