Does any one run a second fuel filter on their Toyota Lancruiser 200 seriers v8 turbo diesel as i am worried about bad fuel which could make the injector pump faulty or the injectors fail ?

i run my land cruiser 200 diesel from singapore to malaysia and usually into very deep interior village in malaysia has very "dirty" diesel. so to compensate for such low grade diesel, i change my fuel filter every 10,000KM ie every other servicing interval, i will replace a new fuel filter. prevention is always better than cure. good luck! - jennifer ;)

I don't know about second fuel filters but I do know that the fuel filter is NOT inspected at any routine service of Landcruisers. Look at your service reports and you will find no mention of fuel filters.

I found this out after having the fuel filter warning light come on near Mundrabilla on the Eyre Highway. Very isolated place remote from any Toyota service (or any mechanical service for that matter).

My 200 series diesel had 45,000 ks on the clock and the fuel filter had never been inspected let alone changed. Eventually had it replaced at Ceduna.

I have raised this issue (among others) with Toyota Australia by written letter but been ignored.

I now insist on the fuel filter being changed at every service.

I dont have a Landcruiser at present, however on my previous cruiser I fitted a Frantz Fuel Filter.

The cost of a Toyota Fuel Filter was 15 times the cost of the toilet roll used by Frantz, so I only rarely changed it, but I changed the Frantz filter frequently. Even after 360,000 km the engine was strong, did not smoke and did not use oil.

You can change the Frantz filter easily, just need a container like a 2 Litre icecream container to soak the new filter in clean diesel before stuffing it into the Filter body. Then a quick pump to prime the fuel lines and away you go.

The condition of the old filter roll was always a good indication of what I had been sucking through the fuel system.

Read about the Frantz Filter and talk to the suppliers re your V8 diesel

Luddy, I don't think you can run a second fuel filter as it can (as I understand it) cause the injector pump to starve and this would be an expensive exercise. This issue was covered on the LCOOL forum. Check them out and do a search.

Hope this helps.
