Hi I just bought a Celica 1990 GT and got a tune up and the thermostat replaced (though it didn't have one to begin with!).

The temperature gauge shows the the engine temp rising into the top quarter. I put the heater on and the temp drops back to mid way.

The last owner said his mechanic told him the radiator needs replacing but my mechanic says it looks fine (from the outside - no rust).

May sound like a silly question but is this likely to be a radiator problem/block or could it be something else?

Thanks!

Mike

radiator is probably either completely had, or full of sludege.

Get the whole cooling system flushed IMO... also be sure to have things like hoses, etc checked. as well as your head gasket.

Usually a removed thermostat is just some idiot trying to cover up a much bigger problem...
