Hey,

I am 16 and looking to buy a Celica as my first car, most likely a 1993 Celica SX Liftback 5sp. I am on a very tight budget, so i don't have a very large market to choose from. I know Toyota made air conditioning optional for these cars for a long time, and it was quite expensive so it was not always added.

My question is, is it a very easy / inexpensive thing to retro-fit air conditioning on these celicas? (Either using parts from wreckers or going to an air-con shop) and approx how much you think it would cost.

Thank you,

Joshua

P.S. I hope i didn't confuse everyone :P

Mate, most of the celica's you will find have factory air conditioning... It may need a regas but this should be had for less than $100.

What is your budget for a celica?

I think my budget will be about $4000 for a '93 Celica 5sp Manual, looking for one in good cond. with approx 200,000km or less on it. Preferably red and WRC trophy edition, but that is optional. I only have about half that much now though, and only have about 25hrs up on my L's and need to split all family drving with my twin, so it may be a while before I get into the market. I have just been having a look through all the classifieds and noticed some without.

P.S. Do you know if all Celicas had the actual 'AC' button, and just some of them worked, or if only the optioned ones had the button?

TBH mate ive never seen a gen 5 without AC. But i would imagine, like most other toyotas the wiring would be there just not the buttons.etc

If you are after the WRC trophy i am 99% sure they all had air con. and by the time you can go to market $4000 will be quite a bit, as 5th gens are not worth much anymore.

Cool, thanks Mick. Yeah, all the pics on Carsales have the buttons, but they don't all mention it in the specs. People must just assume that its normal when they sell! Thanx for your help :)
