camry alternator in 1990 celica

Does anyone know if i could use a 5sfe camry alternator in my 1990 5sfe celica?

Having some trouble finding one from local wreckers and maybe thought it would be easier to search for a camry one.

Depending on which one you get, you may need to modify the wiring. Eg. 2 or 3 wire plug. Does your Celica one have an external fan?

No it doesn't. Do different camry years(5sfe models) have different alternators?

Yep. You may be able to use one from a 3S-FE from an SV21 Camry, just make sure it is the same amperage and the plugs are the same.

all 3s and 5s ones will bolt up, but you need to ensure that the plug on the back is the same.

So i've rung up a few places and found out that i need a 87-89 pre july alternator from an sv21 cause apparently after july they changed from having an internal to external regulator. the search continues!
