I have a Toyota Hiace 2002 D4D 2.5 engine type 2KD FTV

Recently had a power problem In that the engine would occasionally loose power when cruising and then right itself, Apart from this it runs fine starts first time on the button. When idling at very high revs there where huge plumes of black smoke from the exhaust. And the fuel consumption was very heavy whan driving .

I took it to the garage where they checked and cleaned the EGR valve (which they said looked fine and working) and the MAF valve (which they said was very very dirty)

This has cured the dying problem and smoke from the exhaust but not the heavy fuel problem

I was told that on Idle if the MAF valve was disconnected it should make a difference too the engine tick over but it doesn’t and this could point too a fault there are no fault lights on the dash

Is there a way of checking the MAF with a multi meter I have been told this is possible but don’t now the voltages / Ohms can anyone help with this

thanks

Pretty sure we never got this engine in Australian Hiaces. We had the 3L and 5L motors up intil the current shaped Hiace in 2005. Probably best to try and download a service manual or try and find someone else with the same motor and borrow their sensor to see if it cures the issue.
