Got my 2012 Toyota Camry Hybrid yesterday after one month wait because the demo had to stay with the dealer for a minimum of 3 months. 120km drive on the first day and still reading through the manual to get familiar with the car. Since I had been driving Honda Civic Hybrid, it's quite easy for me to get used to the "hybrid driving" of this car. I love the EV mode while driving in the shopping centres and finding car park. I also found it's very easy to get into EV only driving on highway if it's flat. Can't wait for the next drive....

Having had the car for 4 days and average fuel consumption has come down to 5.6 L/100km. One 15 min trip resulted in 3.9 L/100km at night while there are not many cars behind and I maximised the use of EV mode. Figured out how to read and use the power indicator on the left of the instrument panel: blue - recharge area, blue/green eco - EV area, green eco - EV area if EV mode is activated, white power - powerful accelaration...still reading through the thick navigation system manual coming with the HL model to operate and set up the functions of touchscreen.

Hi pompom2012,

Hope you are having fun with your new car. Yes, the manual for the nav is a bit intimidating. If you find an option for a blank screen please let me know, as I don't really like it always lit, and I've not found a way to blank it.

Your fuel consumption should improve even further (slightly) after a couple of K km I think, but that is a good average.

Regards, Coolscan.

To turn the screen off in the HL select Setup. On the top of the screen select Display. It will give an option to turn the display off.

Thanks Faltap. Just had a quick look and your'e right, of course. I think I'm the wrong generation to find all this stuff intuitive.

Update after 1st tank: The low fuel light came on at about 850km, then kept driving for another 60km and crusing range dropped from 25km to 0km instantly, kept driving for another 40km+ because my calculation told me my range should be more than 1100km with 5.5L/100km fuel consumption and 65L tank. Since this is my first tank, I don't dare to go any further and refuelled at about 953km. The refuel volume is about 56L, which means there is still 9L in the tank! My conclusion is the low fuel indicator in TCH is even more conservative than Honda Civic Hybrid and its cruising range reading is very unreliable. Next time I could go 200km more after the light is on depending on the fuel price cycle.
