Have ditched DP and now using CEM. Double dose of decarboniser for two full tanks and using CEM's diesel additive as well. Tapping "may" be slightly less.... but overall rattle is definitely quieter. Motor seems to idle slightly better (smoother) and I note that the "pulsing" I was getting in 6th at 100 km/h under light load is now gone.... no idea what caused it, but do know that after each dose of Toyota injector cleaner - that pulsing seemed to go away again after the tankful went through it. CEM seems to improve almost everything.... I have nearly 5 litres of DP left over if anyone wants it - won't be going back to it.

I also had the same problem. I’ve now worked it out. It was the MAP filter. It must of been slightly blocked. Enough to measure less boost than what the turbo was pumping in. Hence the fuel mix is too lean and you get a rattle.

Change the MAP filter and it fixes it.
previously I was measuring boost(MAP) of 0psi on idle now it measures 0.5psi.

It made all the difference and removed the tapping rattle noise.

Thanks Paul,

didn't know there was a MAP filter... what it is, or where it is.... but, if it stops this light rattling - I'm in.

Can you kindly tell me a bit more about changing it, what to order from spare parts etc. etc... big job? and expensive?

The map sensor filter is about $70 from Toyota. here is a video showing how to change it on a 200 series . I have a 70 series and it is even easier no need to remove the inter cooler.
