Hi all

Long time lurker, first time poster!

I took my '08 Aurion Sportivo ZR6 to get the windows tinted on Friday. During the process they somehow damaged the passenger side front door belt moulding - this is the horizontal chrome/rubber strip running along the junction between the bottom of the window and top of the metal panel of the door.

Although they haven't acknowledged it was their fault, the manager seemed to think it would cost $20-30 and have agreed to pay me once I've replaced it. Anyway, I called my local Toyota dealer and inquired about the part - $104 (not including labour to replace it)!! I sort of expected that but given the cost I'm thinking I'll probably have difficulty getting that much cash out of the window tinting place!

Being conscious of the price, and trying to do the right thing by the manager of the window tinting place, I decided to call a few wreckers in Adelaide to see whether anyone had an Aurion as I would have been happy with a second hand part as long as it wasn't damaged. Nine calls later - only one wrecker had an Aurion but the part I was after was damaged!

Anyway, I am now wondering whether this particular part is interchangeable with the Camry? I'm thinking I might have more luck finding a wrecked Camry around the place....

Thanks in advance for your input.

The problem with the belt moulding is they damage the clips when they remove them, even if they damaged it without removing it one from the wreckers may still have damaged clips and wont sit right, I had some panel work done on a scratch on my rear passenger door through my insurance and the panel beaters put the old one back on and the ends stuck up, the insurance assessor told me it needed a new one. Something to check on with a 2nd hand one. And from experience never trust someone who says they will pay you back after you have replaced it yourself. They are in the auto industry so they have probably fitted them before, I would be asking them to buy it and either they fit it or you get it fitted. You said the manager has offered to pay for it even though they haven't admitted it's there fault. I would be careful they don't just give you the $20-$30 and you get stuck with the balance. Remember it was your car they damaged and you shouldn't have to fix what they broke. You deserve a new one. Hate to see you get shafted. Hope it works out for you.

Yes, obviously hoping I don't get shafted... and I think that the more expensive the part is, the more chance I have of them not paying up. That's why I'm trying to come up with an alternative that's satisfactory to me and keeps them 'happy'.

And I found the American Camry service manual on this site today - it seems there are a couple of clips making the bloody thing pretty hard to remove - basically the whole door has to be taken apart first! Will exercise caution. ;)

Might be good to contact Toyota and see if you can get new clips, doubt it though, probably have to buy the whole thing, that's what they did with mine but my car was just over 1 year old at the time and in the 'all new parts' area of insurance. Good luck.

Just had mine replaced as the driver side was stuffed after the panel beaters resprayed the front door cost me about the same and had the pull the driver mirror off to tuck the strip under they broke the the first hook type clip which meant it lifted near the mirror when pulled still have the old one
