When Kluger stops change from D mode to S mode starts from 4th gear

As titled, when Kluger stops change from D mode to S mode starts from 4th gear, is this correct? should it start from first gear because it is stopping or running? anyone could help me to verify? Thanks

Gday Jinze,

Maybe you should refer to your operators manual located in the glove box

D = Drive / S = Sports.

When "D" is selected the transmission is in Automatic mode, and will select the required forward gears it requires automatically.

When "S" is selected the transmission is in Semi-Automatic mode, and will only use the forward gear you select for it!! In other words, it's like a Manual transmission without having to use a clutch.

Thanks Laurie, I do appreciate your reply, I know "S" is kind of manual transmission without clutch, however my concern is why no matter the car is running or fully stop, as long as I change it from "D" to "S", it always starts from 4th gear even the car is not running.

My MAZDA, if I change it from "D" to "M", the gear will vary not always 4th gear, for example, if I change it when the car is stopping, it will show me it is currently on the 1st gear whereas my Kluger will still show me it is on 4th gear...this is weird.

That is the maximum gear that it will change to, not the current gear it is in. Yes it is correct.

Even though S mode is like a manual it will still change automatically UP or DOWN when necessary.
Your indicator may show 4 but it may have changed to 3,2 or 1 by itself.
