I am thinking about dipping my toe into 4WD driving. It will be primarily touring with some mild off roading. I will likely be doing some towing as well. A Land Cruiser may seem like overkill but I like the idea of having the capability to go more hardcore if I desire. My budget will be $20k but could stretch slightly if needs be. Research on Carsales tells me this will get me a decent 105 series 6cyl petrol or LPG conversion with around 200-250,000km travelled or a 100 series V8 with a few more K's on the clock.

I have heard there is very little difference in petrol consumption between the two, ie they both guzzle the juice. My budget will not get me into a diesel. I have also heard the V8 engine does not like LPG and that the 6cyl responds better to it. I am aware of the different front suspensions on both versions.

What to go for? How many K's on the clock is too many? Any advice gratefully received.
