wiring harness to keep steering wheel controls on new head unit

I can't believe I'm the first person to run into this problem -- I bought a new Pioneer head unit, and the full Aerpro wiring harness which claims to preserve my steering wheel controls ... but it lacks a plug (a small car-side square one is remaining unused) and so I end up without steering wheel volume, track skipping, etc.

surely other people with a Gen. 3 have had this issue?  Do I really need to order a wiring harness from America, or ... ?

thank you,
