I have a 2023 Fortuner and I have recently fitted a roof rack with 3 cross bars. My car has a recessed channel under the plastic strips either side of the roof. I got a Rhino kit. It requires pop riveting a rail into the channel. I followed the installation instructions and it all worked perfect. I did add a modification by drilling holes in the plastic rail end pieces to let water drain out of the rail and a bit more sealing at the ends and along the roof edges. You also need a pop rivet gun capable of 4mm rivets a 5mm drill bit with a stop to only allow a drill depth of 5-6mm. Rack looks good and functional.
