LN40 Gearbox

Hi,

The old man has a LN40 81 model that he put a 5 speed gear box in, not too long after getting it, unfortunately (unsurprisingly) after 40 years his 5 speed has packed it in. He actually kept the original 4 speed but it has ceased over the years he had it in storage. His old ute is still in extremely good condition and otherwise ok and hoped it would see him out his remaining years.  He had it repainted at one point and you would never guess its age... His Hilux is not column shift (not sure if .au even had those, but when googling LN40 I see references to a column shift gearbox) 

What are his chances of locating a 2nd hand gear box for it these days. (Was the same gearbox used over a number of models that span a few years newer or is he SOL). Given the age he will definitely have to look further than any local wreckers if any still exist that is...  (He is in regional QLD). I have no idea if the gearbox and housing have a particular part number to help search.  

Any info on the models that use the same gearbox and housing or where to locate a second hand one would be appreciated.
