2001 Hilux diesel Overheating issues

Tony from West Oz

Recommended Posts

Recently acquired 2001 Hilux diesel is having issues with overheating when pushed hard on hot days.
Air conditioner seems to make it more likely to happen
i suspect that the radiator is partially blocked and/or
The viscous fan is not working correctly  and/or
The thermostat is stuffed and/or
the engine has head / head gasket issues.
Any advice on what to check first and what to look for in testing each item listed.
Are there any other causes that you can imagine would cause these symptoms?

The radiator cap was faulty, not pressurising the coolant system and causing coolant to be expelled when the hot engine was turned off.

Replaced rad cap and all OK.
