South Australian 86/BRZ Club
hi everyone. I’ve only just bough my Toyota 86 so as practice as I am I’m trying to figure some stuff out. Does my one know how the front fog lights are supposed to mount ? Do you use all four “screw holes” or just some ? Does the front bumper have to come off (ie do they fit from the inside or outside ) mine were missing and I the bezels too. I’m a bit confused as to how to fit the replacement factory ones I’ve just purchased ? -

Kluger losing power - mainly on hills
Your description indicates a low fuel pressure problem. Was the fuel filter also replaced? Looks like you are going to have to take your son's mechanic's advice and also replace that other part. -

2005 Toyota Corolla miss fire on acceleration cant scan obd2
I have the same problem with my 2005 Corolla Ascent. On cold start up it misfires very noticeably and once warm, it still misfires, just not as loud and in your face. It's worse with the air-con running, but seems to clear out after approx 1600+rpm. There is a very noticeable smell of fuel coming from the exhaust as well. I had the same issue with the obd2 reader from Supercheap so I ended up going to a dealership and they plugged in to it perfectly fine using a snap on reader. Did not show up any fault codes whatsoever even though Toyota could see and hear the misfire. They advised to run a bottle of injector cleaner through it to see if that helped, but no good! Not 1 ounce of difference. Years ago I had this same issue when I ran 13b rotary injectors in my skyline. The rotary injectors dumped more fuel than a normal injector so it would misfire on idle and initial acceleration until the revs increased and burnt off the unused fuel. I ended up having to set my idle at 1200rpm so it was high enough to burn the fuel being dumped by the injector. So it makes me think that maybe there is an injector problem and that they aren't opening and closing properly. I've done the whole cleaning of sensors etc and new plugs, and the best I got was with the new plugs and it helped calm the misfire to a "just noticeable" level, but then as you clock up the km's, it gets worse! I have noticed what sounds like an air/vacuum leak coming from somewhere and its just 1 little vac leak/fart sound (if that makes sense) every second or so. It's sort of like it's doing it every time the piston hits TDC?! Even Toyota said that it could very well be a leak causing it because if its sucking in bits of ambient air, that could/would throw the air/fuel mixtures. I'll try and take a video of the leak sound as well as the misfire tomorrow so you can compare to yours. -

Corolla manual gearbox issues
I know this is an old post but thought I’d share what I found with my nephews Corolla. The gearbox had a bit of bearing noise when he brought the car but as it was his first car I said let it go until the clutch needs doing. He got 2 years then the clutch started slipping and hard to get gears. Ended up being the 5th gear bearing blew apart causing the gears to push apart and selectors to bind. I have attached a link to part 1 of what we found. -

Kluger losing power - mainly on hills
Good afternoon, I have just joined the club. I have been having trouble with my (2005 I admit) Kluger for a few months. It was going very well until then. First it would not start, so a new starter motor was fitted. Then one day it suddenly started losing power, particularly on hills. I could be doing 110kph on the expressway, then it would lose power, slowly - over about 500m - until it got down to 15kph or so. Going up a steepish hill it would dramatically slow. I nursed it halfway home, when I noticed that I needed to refill the tank. As soon as I filled up it went OK again. I found over the next week or so that it was OK until the tank got to half-full, when the problem started again. I had a new fuel pump fitted but it would not start, so had to take it an auto electrician. I picked it up and as soon as I got to a hill it started again. The mechanic suggests fitting new sensors - I think he said Oxygen and Fuel sensors. My son suggested I try his mechanic, who said this is not the problem but that the problem was with "fuel flow". He said there is a pair of (I forget what the are called). He replaced one and said it would help, but I would need to replace the other (more expensive to fit) one. As soon as the car got below half-full the problem came back, worse than ever. Does anyone have any comments? (Other than getting a new car) I would like to find what the problem is as the wait for a hybrid Rav4 is several months. -

Brake issues
No handbrake on front rotors. Will get the rears done soon. My take on this (time will tell) is that the castings have not cured/seasoned enough when fitted. Similar concept when in days gone by when building a race engine (NASCAR) using a cast iron block. Wisdom was to use a 'used' block or leave the new one out in the weather for 12 months to cure/season. -

Aftermarket Tail Lights?
Thanks Herb. I tried searching wreckers but I only came up on the old fashioned OEM lights which I don't fancy. I decided to give google one last try and surprisingly found two more leads from Indonesia with the color I like. Hopefully they do support overseas shipping. I keep you guys posted on what happens next. -

Aftermarket Tail Lights?
Hi Eijas, My 1995 Hiace needed new tail light assemblies, to pass a road worthy. I tried searching wreckers, and the best I could find was only the RHS ones, at $150 each. Then I did a Google search and found a pair of brand new ones, for $119 delivered. They were not genuine Toyota, but fitted perfectly. Try searching for yours, and include the model and year. Herb
