  1. Hi Mick1961 I have a 2003 Hilux V6 petrol. I have a after market cruise control from AusCruise. It works very well however AusCruise don't sell to the public. I had mine fitted by TJM. They have vacuum and electronic versions and a fly by wire version as well for newer models. I hope this info is useful. Woodsie
  2. Sorry I should have been more specific. I was suggesting it could be VALVE timing not IGNITION SPARK timing. This would require testing the TDC position and then making sure the valves start opening etc at the correct degrees. I have seen valve timing cause lag once when I changed the timing chain on a ute I owned. The other thing to keep in mind is that a small engine doesn't generate much torque until the revs are up. I would ask the mechanic if they have the gear to test valve timing. Cheers
  3. Just a thought but it could be your valve timing. If you ask at work you should be able to confirm easy enough. Hope this helps.

    Hilux Trays

I have a single cab 03 4x4 Hilux. This car is a work car first and a fishing car second. As soon as I make a suitable lifting beam to hoist off I intend to take the tray off and add a water tank and battery mount (for a second battery) below the tray. I am wondering if there are any other suggestions for mods others have seen or done themselves. The criteria I am looking at is to not alter the tray too much just add on. I already have a frame that bolts into the tray for a 3.7m tinnie so that is covered.
  5. Nick I have a 03 Hilux 4x4 single cab. It used to have trouble changing up from 1st to 2nd until I adjusted the clutch. It sounds like yours should also have the clutch adjusted. Clutch adjustment instructions are on this forum not sure where exactly but if you look under Camry the process is the same. If you are not happy doing it yourself take it to a mechanic it should only be a 30 minute job. Hope this helps
  6. Hi Unique My guess is that the oil came from spillage when the oil was last topped up. From your pictures of the filler cap id say another possibility is that the cap was not properly tightened. I would clean the area of all oil using a clean rag and inspect for oil after your next drive. If the problem persists get Toyota to investigate when they do the recall. Hope this helps!
  7. I just got back from a holiday where we drove from Mt Isa to Bundaberg to Townsville to Mt Isa about 4k km's. The Aurions cruise did as Steven said if the speed was getting away and reduced throttle couldn't hold the set speed it would drop down a gear to help. What I think would help more than braking to hold set speed is a system that would allow you to set a speed but when you catch up with slow traffic hold you at the slower speed till you make your passing maneuver.
  8. This is a very useful tip. I just adjusted the clutch of my fishing car (03 Hilux) as per the post and am pleased to say it has improved the gear change from 1st to 2nd quite noticeably.
