  1. Thankyou all ZRE owners :D sub and amp installed with a line out converter, so i've got the stock headunit. Thankyou to all who have helped me in the past few days. This was a DIY job and i reccommend you do it yourself if you plan to, much more satisfying then forking out extra money, and its kinda fun until you get stuck. and my boot is also now opening :D
  2. Hey, i've got a corolla ZRE and am attempting to install my amp and sub at the moment, all the wiring went fine but now i need to get to the sub and amp which is in the boot. But i cant open it up, i know its one of those hydraulic ones where it needs battery power to open. What i did was reconnect the battery and turned the car on, cars running fine and all but i cant open the boot. I had it on for around 30 seconds then turned it off and now im here. edit: I've had the battery back in for around 10 minutes now, all bolts are back on tightly and i ran the car for two minutes to tried to open the boot again. In the past i have seen ZRE's which have a low battery and nothing will open (the hood and boot) but when we turned the car on for a test drive they opened. I assumed that turning it back on will be fine, but in my case not. May i have pulled something out? because i dont think i have.
  3. Hey, can you let us know how you went with repco, im also trying to find weathershields for my car and dont live near one.
  4. that looks awesome. how much did the garnish and badge set you back? i was planning on getting both one day.
  5. ok thanks for that. i'll probably just try to put it in the headunit since i have to take it out anyways. would you have any guides on how to remove the door so i can connect the speakers to the amp.
  6. Hey, I was wondering where the corolla rear speaker wiring can be located from the boot of a ZRE. I've tried looking in the boot but the only wiring i can find is the ones for the rear lights. I want to connect a line out converter so i can run a sub and amp off the stock headunit so im trying to find these wires or I'll need a location in the car which is sufficient enough for me to install it and connect the RCA's. Which also reminds me that i saw 2 red wires on the drivers side when pulling everything up to check the wires. From a wiring loom diagram the red wire is the right rear speaker +, is there any way i can tell which one is which? they were both just red, one a little lighter than the other.
  7. Hey, does anyone know a good place in melbourne that does car audio installations for an amp, sub and a line out converter. ive been quoted 140 by autobarn just for the amp and sub by itself. or is there anyone that can help me out? I dont want to do a DIY as im not very confident with taking the car apart. I also saw one thread for melbourne installers but there werent many replies.
  8. ok. i've decided to go with the rca line out converter and pioneer sub and amp. i'll be heading to jaycar in a few days to pick up the line out converter and was wondering what kind of wires would i need to get it all installed. The plan is to run the two front speakers and sub off the amp and four other speakers off the headunit. Also does anyone know any good car audio installation places in melbourne?
  9. thanks for your help. im thinking i might as well go for the sub + amp off the stock headunit. At most id get a 12" sub, but ideally just thinking about getting a 10 inch pioneer sub, and a 4 channel amp as mole suggested. Not sure what kind of amp for now, but probably something like a pioneer, kenwood, clarion amp, nothing fancy. Just also wondering, what if i wanted some doof doof instead, what are peoples preferences? and why do so many people dislike sony car audio? thinking about it since its one of the brands within budget. Just a reminder i am not finding an SQ or SPL, just finding something out there that will be a little better than stock atm. :D
  10. Hey, im planning on chucking a sub and amp into my car (zre) off the stock head unit or chucking in a 6x9 speakers (im thinking alpine type s) in the back with an amp running them. i dont need that much sound that comes from the sub. My questions are: -Will the headunit be able to support all 8 (extra 6x9) speakers without an amp? -If not, am i better off changing the stock headunit and run the speakers off them? -how much wiring do i need to hook up the amp. places like jb hifi and stuff arent much help. I looked around and wires are costing from 80-150 dollars. would that really be necessary to hook up an amp to one sub off a LOC off the headunit. Because i was thinking that if i still need to buy the wiring and amp and loc for the 6x9, i might as well get a sub. Sorry for heaps of questions, all i want is something to add a little more bass but not too costly. Im also not too fussy about how good the quality of everything is and money is limited. If anyone has any other suggestions then that would be helpful. Thanks people :D
  11. Just making sure.... this isn't for your Corolla right? Because the ZRE has a 5x114.3 stud pattern compared to the ZZE's stud pattern of 4x100. sorry i should really change the car model i have. i used to drive my mums zze but i now have a zre. just a quick question. it might seem stupid, but is there any chance of fitting a 5x110 onto a 5x114.3? i cant find a certain answer and dont know much.
  12. Hey, if anyone has their wheels available and is willing to sell them then can you send me your offers :)
  13. Ok, dads camry had a blown headgasket, got new engine put in, and there was oil leaking for a bit after that. Oil leak was fixed, but at the same time there was also another issue. The car idles on really low rpms and the engine just shuts down. This first time it happened was on a cold day, and after warming it up for 5 minutes, the car had to be driven around with the acceleration pedal down the whole time. After it warmed up more during the day it was fine. So at the moment it drives okay besides for that problem? would anyone know why this would be? At times it idles so low at the lights it just shuts off. My dad said he brought it to the mechanic he got his engine done and they said it was something bout the sensor? they asked him to come back and he did and they didnt even bother looking at it so they're going to look at it again.
  14. Hey, Do any of you guys who own a corolla do your own oil and oil filter changes? For the zze model, is it just a standard screw on oil filter? For the zre model, is it complicated? because i was looking around on the net and stumbled upon; http://forum.doityourself.com/automotive-s...r-location.html so i was wondering does that apply to the our zre? and since im here, is it the same for the 03 camry's? Im just thinking about doing minor services for my family and hoping that its not too complicated. Any help would be appreciated :D
  15. Hey, im tempted to buy a corolla sedan, butjust before i check them out, does anyone know if the grille can be changed on it? i looked at other members sedans but they have an 03 model. Having the trd like grille gives the car an awesome look and it alot better than that silver colour. just wanted to make sure that i can do it before purchasing one.

    Camry Engines

yeah i was thinking of a rebuild, but midas took the whole engine apart and left it like that for us to tow home. So an engine rebuild i dont think is possible anymore. but yeah, i guess auctions would be the best way to go. or does anyone know places which sell engines or wreckers which may have one in stock?

    Camry Engines

It had 2AZ (2.4L 4 Cylinder), i've been getting mixed quotes, ranging from 2k-5k for engine plus installation. But im gonna head off to the mechanics soon, i'll ask him exactly what needs replacing.
  18. Hey guys, i posted up an issue about the camry earlier. Now that the current engine is gone its time to find one to replace it. I have 3 choices a) Engine Exchange B) Engine Rebuild c) Sell the current car and get a different one. How much do you reckon i can get for an 03 altise sedan. the condition of the interior is fair and the outside body is quite fair as well. Im thinking im better off with doing something to the engine. So can anyone guide me to where i can buy an engine for the camry? i've been quoted 4800 from midas, which to me sounds like a rip. Thanks everyone, and happy new year! :D

    Camry issue

ok, here's an update. mechanics just called and the engine is gone. apparently there was a leaking waterpump and its just caused too much damage to the engine. now we need to get it replaced. midas are quoting 4000 to change the engine. can anyone guide me to anywhere where we can replace the engine? Im located in melbourne.

    Camry issue

well from what my mum has told me, car was burning white smoke at the front of the car near the light indicators, not from where i said previously. I've done a bit of research and it seems like it could possibly be leaking from the radiator? I was searching through the forums and someone else had a leaked radiator. But i havent checked yet since i've been busy with xmas stuff. Thanks to everyone who's helped :)

    Camry issue

Im not sure, but hopefully i will go have a look when we go pick up the car. according to my mum, she says the temperature signal thing inside of the car (i think its the water/engine temp?) doesnt change. was also driven in it this morning for.... almost 10 minutes, seemed fine to me. but hopefully we'll figure it out, cant go back to the mechanic since its xmas then the weekend.

    Camry issue

ok, this is my first post because i have yet to get a car, but there's an issue with one of my parents cars. Dads got a gold camry altise 03/04? just recently got it serviced the other day and after driving it for 10 minutes, there was smoke coming out of the engine. dad thought nothing of it and just poured water over it and didnt bother bringing it back to the mechanics, then today he drove it and it happened again, cars now left in the middle of no where. Can anyone assist me on this? The smoke was coming through the bonnet, close to the little black things where the water comes out of xD i know, i suck with my car terminology, if i find out more info i will post, so any help would be appreciated :D Have a merry christmas and a happy new year everyone!
