I've also got a problem with my 98 v6....
when u initially start it, it will go to about 12-1300rpm, then down to about 700 then straight back to about 12-1300....
is this a problem? or am i just being paranoid? :(

Depending on what you want, it'll cost you roughly ...
$150-200 for a nice set of projectors
$200 for a hid kit
$100 for a pair of nice shroud
You'll need to get a set of clear depo headlights if you have the preface lifted model of the gen 4 as the grooved headlight covers will NOT work. These will set you back about 250-300 for the halo ones that I have.
I dont think I'd want to do another set though :P I've already done 3 sets. 1 for myself and 2 for someone else. Its not hard to do but it's time consuming, and there is the extra pressure of making everything perfect when doing it for someone else.
thanx for the info. dw i wasn't expecting you to do it for me anyways, and it is just a little bit out of my price range at the moment.
but i have to admit, seeing urs makes me jealous

first topic in this thread.. Kool :D
anyways i've had to park my car under alot of gum trees over the years and i found it really annoying when the sap and other marks just wouldn't come off with a wash. i tried buying tough shampoos, wax, waterless thingys. none of them worked, until i tried using methylated spirits. works like a charm, just be carefull not to get it on any rubber, or the plasticy chrome like the badges.
I'm not responsible if anything goes wrong if u try this. do it first in an unnoticable place like engine bay or sumthing

There is none for the Gen4's. You will have to retro fit them yourself if you want projectors. (See Avatar) I have projectors + hid's in my camry. And with all projectors that you buy from the states, you will need to mod them as they are set up to left hand drive not right hand drive. Meaning you will still blind on coming traffic even with those projectors.
well that sux....how much did u do urs for? would u be willing to do another set

does anyone know if you can buy projector lights for a gen 4 camry? thats a 98 model
would be interested in putting them on my car

looks pretty good, reckon there are ones out there to fit 1998 camry?
all you have to do now is remove the stock ones, fill the hole and respray the quarter panels and bobs ur uncle

sorry guys my weekend plans have been moved to friday night <_<
hopefully i'll catch the next one.....

i've heard differently regarding the fuel debate.
apparently the knock sensors in the engine will detect the higher octane fuel and send signals to the ecu, which in turn will advance the timing automatically.....
can someone shed some light into this?

thanks guys for ur input into the topic, i decided to give it a go anyway, just to see if it had an affect.
i havn't had a chance yet to do a WOT test, as im currently re-trimming my roof aswell, but at idle and lower rpms it does sound much deeper, and louder. although this is also due to the combination of what i have done to the factory filter box, which i can take photos of if anyone is interested in having a loud intake noise.
i will keep u updated as tomorrow i will give it a run for its money, to see if i can notice a difference at higher revs, more power etc. i did however, notice a humming sound which is a little annoying although u can only here it at idle as the engine noise cancels it out.
another reason for doing this was when i took the resonator off the intake, u could see some of the oil residue that has come from the crank breather tube.... might be a good idea for you guys who r keeping it stock to have a look and maybe a little clean. ;)

Could be anything? .from cooling system detonation, idler postionng switches, fuel deprivation...may have to give us all lil more info
If your pretty confident with playing around with the engine give this ago.....it might help and if it doesn't, you haven't lost anything by it

Get $3500, buy a supercharger. thats the only way yout getting decent power. An Intake is not getting you any power. A custom y-pipe may get a little, or the buy the OBX headers and y-pipe on ebay.
haha i wish i had that sort of money to spend, but as it is, i have a very small budget....i know that im not going to get that much increase in power, i've done a few things to the intake, and it has made a mild affect on the reponse, however it sounds so much deeper and louder at full throttle.
-
1MZ-FE doesnt have a AFM, they have a MAP sensor. It is located on the intake about 6-12in from the throttle body. (I'm working off memory as i dont have the car with me and i havent had the stock intake for a while now.) It is a little rectangular thing with a plug. Best you can do is fill it up with premium unleaded and the computer will learn to use it. It will make more power with premium and also have less pinging!
[edit] Guessing you kinda have a cold air intake already from the signiture. The next step that I would suggest is a custom Y-Pipe with the front and rear banks join up as the stock setup is restrictive!
thanks for the response, i want more performance from the car without changing the sound of the exhaust, i dont mind the intake noise though... :D
another thing, between the orginal filter box and the throttle bodie the little black box thingy...is that just a resonator connected to the crank breather? or does it actually serve a purpose, cause if that is the case then it is restricting airflow etc....
can i just remove that completely and put a little crankcase breather filter instead of connecting it back to the intake? if that makes sense

bump, comon people sumone out theres knows the answer to my question

Yes the batteries for these remotes do die but im suprised if the remote itself only lasted 18 months. With these remotes the batteries cannot be replaced (well thats for the gen 3s but im pretty sure its the same for gen 4s) so youll need to buy an entire remote and have it programmed. Do you have another remote to test that the central locking itself is working.
like redracer said, test the central locking with another remote, if it works then you need a new one, if not then u will need to reprogramme the remotes which the owners manual tells you how to do......
hope that helps, my dad bought a new magna and the remotes didn't work, he bought new batteries and still didn't work, then i reprogrammed them and its fine, spent money on batteries when it wasn't the case

Hey guys, I'm still kinda new to the website and I just wanted to ask a simple question.
I have myself a 1998 Camry with a 1MZ-FE v6 engine. i've been looking around the forums and other websites and I am interested in changing the settings of my AFM as I've been told that this will increase/improve throttle repsonse.
I was just wondering if any of the tech people knew where it is to start with and how to mod it, (i heard that you need to rotate the gear wheel three to five teeth counterclockwise)
any help on this issue will be greatly appreciated
