  1. BIG AWESOME THANKS to the guys who came out last night. It was fvcking sweet to see that many new cars at a Toymods event (we usualy only get 1 or none!). I knew that if i talked enough sh!t i'd get a good turnout :P I'll try to get some pics of the night up here. There was a really sweet turnout, a big diversity of all toyotas. JZA80 supras, JZX90 chaser, soarers, rollas, sportivos, ZZT celica, crowns, caldina, cressidas, celicas, and all sorts!! Pity about the lack of old school celica muscle though. Anyway, thanks again for turning up, hopefully we see you again soon. And yes, i also knew that i couldnt beat a sportivo in a street drag - but thought if i talked it up enough i'get definitely get to have a go!! :P Now, who exactly was it that turned up?
  2. fvck me its a sh!tload to pay for a stupid stamp in a retarded book. And ditto what rollamods said - Toyota filters are the *****.
  3. i seriously would NOT recommend going with lightweight pulleys, esp for the crank pulley. Crank pulleys are what's known as a "harmonic balancer", which dampens vibrations and non-concentric movement in the crankshaft. Removing it and replacing with a lightweight alluminium/billet, or especially an underdrive type will cause some serious issues in the long run - ESPECIALLY with the rpm that is involved with the 2zz-ge. have a read of this: http://forums.toymods.org.au/index.php?t=m...1661991d9612ab9 there are some good links as to why you shouldnt do it. As for modifying the 2zz-ge. Personally i dont think there is *too* much more you can get out of such a highly strung 1.8L NA motor. I think that a bit of tubo/supercharging would yeild the best gains for the money outlaid (forget the $8000 HKS supercharger kit - DIY!). Cams, chips, tuning, flywheels, TRD CAI's, TRD exhaust etc will eventually rack up a few thousand dollars worth of modifying that might yeild a 10-20% performance gain. That money spend on forced induction alernatives could potentially reap much bigger rewards. PLUS - you would be a pioneer!
  4. Well i've noticed that a few of the Sportivo owners here have mentioned that they would like to come cruising with some of the older corollas and other Toyotas, and seriously i think there is no friendlier and more "ALL-TOYOTA" welcoming group than Toymods. I will be there with my little AE71, as will many other nice 'yotas, such as: - ZZT celica - ST185 GT4's - PIMPIN' Crown wagon with 7M-GE - MX73 Cressida with 1JZ-GTE - Soarers - AE92's (of various type) - Caldina wagon - various other assortments So it would be awesome to have a couple of Sportivo's join the group. And dont think that because your car is new you wont fit, quite the opposite. Toymods is a bunch of guys that love ANY toyota, and we will happily drool over a new Sportivo. Basic details are: When: 7:30pm, Friday 19th March. Where: Homebush bay, Carpark P6, just off Australia Ave, right near Homebush station We'll leave around 8:30 & head down victoria Rd, over Anzac Bridge, & into the rocks through the back way. We'll have a regroup before cruising up George St a bit & then heading up to the Botanical Gardens for another regroup. When we leave here we'll take the harbour tunnel & then take the offramp on the left to take us through Mosman, where we'll turn off down to Taronga Zoo & stop down there for a possible photo opp. Once we leave Taronga we'll make our way up to Brookvale Maccas, for our final stop.
  5. DO you guys know of anyone having the problem with a ZZT celica? The one i had a go in was fine.
  6. Nope... i took it from here: http://www.webwombat.com.au/motoring/news_...toy_corspor.htm in particular the paragraph which reads:
  7. I've gone for a ride in the new ZZT celica, and i can say it was good fun. Although i will say from about 4000-6000rpm the car was pretty lack lustre, until the variable lift was engaged and then the thing took off - but of course the driver was having to rip gears real quick at 8000+rpm to try to stay in the power band. Like rollamods said, its just the downfall of having a highly strung small capacity NA motor.... they dont have torque. But man are they fun to rev on the track.
  8. ooohhh... looks like someone didnt get any *lift* today!!!
  9. i dont doubt the luxury and comfort of a sportivo. Heck if i had money to burn on a new car that would probably be it. However, what i dont like is the farsical claims of sub 15 sec 1/4 miles, and unbelievable straight line speed. It's just not true by todays standards. Yeah its quick, but it aint THAT quick. And i also dont like being told that without a doubt, my corolla cannot be fast, or made to be anything but an unreliable rust bucket. (p.s. it has yet to brake down)
  10. typical 1/4 mile times of a AE92 with MAP GZE (stock) are around the 15-15.5 sec mark. With a pulley and other small mods, closer to the 15 flat mark.
  11. BTW... this is my other car. THIS is my pride and joy...... My RA28 Pic 2
  12. Nope. Too many already have the 3T-GTEU twinsparker. Im building an 18R-G(T)E. WIll be much faster at 2L, maybe 2.2L if i feel like it. Errrrr, no it definitely does NOT fit! I have my plans predominantly laid out already. We'll see what happens over the next year or two..... 500HP is the major target.
  13. the rated quater mile time for a stock sportivo is 16.1 seconds.
  14. i would too. driving a car like this is fun indeed, but it can sometimes be annoying hard work - and i miss creature comforts (like aircon, nice seats, cushy interior etc). A sportivo, or just a plain rolla or celica would be good for everyday driving, and having one of these (or two) for track and drag use would be sweet. Especially a turbo one (easy to do also). It hasnt been run down the strip yet - i have a nasty oil leak from the front main seal which would not allow it to pass scrutineering. So until i get off my **** and fix that, its G-tech's only for me. I should have the leak fixed soon though.... its a matter of money atm. P.S. it weighs under 900kgs.
  15. i would never compare my rolla to an ITR. Its just not in the same league, the ITR is built to be a track car with suspension designed sepcificatlly for that. (hence why it beats a 200SX on a track) Its true, a 140kW 1.6L would be damn undriveable on the street, with very aggressive cam profiles etc... but i dont think fuel economy would be that bad. And suspension and driveline have already been upgraded, mostly. :) I do agree that the sportivo rolla is a bargain at its price, and would be fun to own. But a sports car it is not.... magazines have a tendancy to call hotted up family cars and shopping trolleys "sports cars". To me a sports car is a purpose built car for sports use, not a sedan with a turbo etc. Now back to the original topic... DIY buddy. Its too easy!
  16. i think the 4E-FTE would be a ripper of a conversion.... but you would want to check that such a motor is NEWER than that coming out of the car (this is the basic requirement for any engine conversion) the 4A-GZE is an A series motor, and as such the engine mounts are all over the shop and probably would make life very difficult in converting.
  17. nope, no mechanical training at all. NONE. I have barely even had people show me how to do things. I bought an RA28 celica not even 2 years ago, and just learnt how to do things whilst playing with that and fixing things from there. When something broke, i read a repair manual, did some research on the internet and had a go. Whats the worst that can happen? I break something? From there i just pushed myself to learn more but TRYING THINGS. I did some research and reading (not much really) and just had a hack at it. Since then i've swapped the gearbbox and motor from my 2 celicas about 3 or 4 times, replaced diff centres, rewired my 2nd RA28 celica, changed over suspension items and struts, and installed electronic igntion. And thats just with my RA28's. Then i bought the AE71, ripped out the busted 4A-C, replaced with a mates old 4A-C, then replaced the head gasket on that, then replaced the entire drive train, then installed the 4A-GE, then wired the motor up and just kept going from there. It might sound daunting, but really its not. I have spent a lot of time in self serve auto wreckers pulling cars apart just learning how it all goes together, then gone home and done it on my car. Especially with the 10+ year old toyotas, they are just so easy to work on - with just a bit of patience, some forward thinking and willingness to learn, it really is easy stuff! My next project is a turbo motor for my celica. But that DOES require money. A lot of it.
  18. yeah its roadworthy. I really should get my hands on an engineers certificate (about $300), but having finished the car late october and then leaving for USA until 2 weeks ago, i havent had the time. There really isnt that much that has been modified that isnt stock from another car. Its all bolt in really.
  19. the 2ZZ-GE would be a very nice motor in the EXIGE and ELISE. Although i think i agree with Lotus' direction of attempting to flatten the power curve, such a bold rise and peak in a RWD track car is not really desirable (points to instantanous oversteer). It wouldnt be too hard for the Toyota engine dudes and lotus guys working together to change the tune a little, and the way the variable lift is engaged to smooth it out. In which case you have a serious peice of track car machinery!! I still think the elise is one sexy little road kart.
  20. well maybe one day. For now it is a daily driver that i can take down to the strip.
  21. yes... im bullsh!tting. I like to make claims of unbelievable performance from my car. No i do not have a smallport 4A-GE (from AEA92 SX/GTi) fitted - i just made that up. Well my celica has been run at eastern creek - 16.8sec. My corolla is MUCH FASTER than my celica (yet to run at the creek, been in the USA too long)
  22. mmmmm, no. Car was bought like that. Like i said there is no door trim or carpet atm.
  23. Well, considering there has been a little talk/discussion regarding the performance of my little corolla, i thought i might share it with you. **ALL WORK DONE BY ME. 24. rollaboyz USED to exist in perth. Dont know what does now. As for the insurance thing. My car is so cheap that i dont even bother with comprehensive - $400 for 3rd party property with just cars does me just fine, considering the value of the car! As for the reliability issue - honda's are renound for being unpredicably unreliable, and 10 times more expensive than anything else to rebuild/repair - if its even possible! They are disposable cars, with even more disposable motors. My little rolla happily bounces around 7000rpm all day every day, making plenty of power quite reliably (and its a 12 year old motor), and still getting 450+kms per 35L of fuel. And yes, its perfectly NA, and a mostly stock motor. I could even build me a 140kW 1.6L for my little ****box with about $10k, remaining NA and having money to spare on cleaning up the car. P.S. pistons dont melt at high RPM. Pistons melt under excessive detonation from poor tuning.
  25. a stock 93 celica (ST182) is worth less than 10grand, by a long shot. If it was an ST202, then it MIGHT be worth about that....
