  1. I was in a process of replacing my aging Toyota Camry Vienta V6 April 1995 which has clocked 215000 kms, but still going strong. Today, I went into Pickles auction in Canberra and saw Aurion and Camry 4 cyl cars (I have been a Toyota man all the time. I was dreaming of buying Aurion Sportivo, however, I was intimidated by the height of the cars and visibility of the front, I thought that I will bruise bumpers or even doors while parking these cars. I am now approaching 70 years and my reflexes have slowed also I get scarfed to park in car parks (particularly at clubs, also self maintaining old Camry is always easy compared to Aurion or new Camry 4 Cyl. I decided to stick to Camry V6 and bought in auction a Toyota Camry march 2005 with 1MZFe motor. The car has done 97K and is in good condition. As I am new to 1MZFE, I seek some advice on dos and don'ts to 1MZFE. Also I have heard that this motor had sludge problems. May be there were some other problems which may have been ironed out by now. Please educate me about 2005 Camry with 1MZFE. Also where can I download workshop manual for 1MZFE? K8Canb
  2. My Camry Vienta 1995 has central locking with a switch on the console. I got Rhino immobiliser with remote control. The installation was interfaced with exsisting central loccking. Now the car has keyless entry. K8Canb
  3. Canberra, really, sounds like the typical **** service you get from Canberra toyota, which branch did you go to? I normally buy from Fyshwick, i'm a tradie, so i try to go there in my work clothes, usually get trade price on items and not treated like a moron, but if i go in there dressed in casual clothes i get the "you don't know anything - lets overcharge you" treatment. I usually get beter service from the younger guys there rather then the older ones. I went to Fyushwick too but they were not nice. I was in Sydney yesterday and got the parts from a dealer in Crydon. I go to Canberra Toyota only for timing belt change, otherwise I do everything myself and just buy parts from them.
  4. Thanks for the replies, I am in Canberra and I will try again from diffrent Toyota spare dealer. Thanks again for the reply. K8Canb
  5. Recently one of my alloy wheels was stolen from my parked car. I bought a similar looking wheel and bought 4 off wheel locknuts from Supercheap auto. Unfortunately they are made from mild steel and they don't seem to last long as one of the nuts has become rounded. I went to local Toyota dealer and asked for hardened steel lock nuts. The guy at the counter was not very helpful and started asking part number. I told him and the nut is of 12mm x 1.5 mm pitch. He did not follow and I left the shop. I have heard that Aurion has good alloy wheel locknuts. Could someone advise me whether the Aurion has same wheel studs as Camry Vienta? Or where can I get good quality wheel lock nuts? Thanks in advance. K8Canb
  6. There will be dirty oil left in the filter, if you don't change your filter, you would be mixing bit of dirty oil with your new oil. It is a good practice to change oil filter with every oil change. K8Canb
  7. Thanks for your reply, can you highlight the improvements in 1MZ-FE over 3VZ-FE? My Camry has 3VZFE and even after crossing 215000 kms I am still happy with its performance. K8Canb
  8. Thanks for your informative reply, I was wrongly assuming that 2GR-FE is being made in Australia. While I am happy with the quality of body made here, I was bit doubtful about the quality of engines made in OZ by Toyota. The performance of 2GR-FE is very impressive both in power as well as fuel economy. K8Canb
  9. I am curious to know how the Aussie made V6 engines (Aurion is made in OZ I think) compare with Japanese made V6 engines (3VZFE and 1MZFE). I am driving a 3VZFE Camry and I cannot complain about anything. I presume 1MZFE is the same. However, Aurion engines are here only for the last three to four years. Do you think they are as good as 3VZFE and 1MZFE? K8Canb
  10. Is your car 4 or 6 cylinder motor? K8Canb
  11. based on that odo reading, from memory i think the next change is at 90000kms (major service). however, having said that it doesnt hurt to change it sooner. i change mine every 6 months regardless. I seems to remember that autotransmission fluid need to be changed every 40000 kms or two years. This must have been indicated in service manual. K8Canb
  12. I live in Canberra but sometimes come to Sydney. Where are you in Sydney? Do you work for Totota or you are just an independent person? I was told that to do the work one needs some special tools and everyone may not have access to those.
  13. Thanks fore the reply Tomee, but I don't have any mates who are in car repairs. I will have to depend on the Toyota dealers or some private workshops. I am also considering NRMA car repairs, being NRMA they should not ripoff! K8Canb
  14. I recently got my car inspected by NRMA and they told me about control arm bushes, the car drives well and I do not hear any noise from the suspension. My car is automatic and the oil is same new colour after replacing 30 months back. My main concern is I hate some apprentice at Toyota working on my car. As Sydney City Toyota is owned and run by Toyota Australia, I thought that they should set an wxample to other dealers. So far I have not received any more quotes - perhaps people busy for the Melbourne Cup! K8Canb
  15. Thanks for your reply, I revised my list of service as onder and sent it to Lubemobile and couple of few local workshops. I would like you to quote for supply and fit following new parts: 1. Timing Belt 2. Idealer pulley and bearing 3. Cam shaft, Oil pump and Crank Shaft Seals 4. Water Pump 5. Alternator/Air conditioner drive belt 6. Spark plugs - Platinum tipped, preferably Nippon Denso make 7. Service Injectors and replace their O-rings 8. Clean and service Air intake 9. Replace both (front and rear) valve cover gaskets 10. Front lower left and right control arms - these can be re-bushed exchange parts (wheel alignment is required). 11. Pressure Test Cooling System; Flush and replace radiator coolant. 12. Flush and replace auto-transmission fluid (DEXTRON III) 13. Flush and replace differential fluid (DEXTRON III) 14. Flush and replace power steering pump fluid (DEXTRON III) 15. Flush and replace brake fluid I promptly got the quote from Lubemobile $2751.15 inclusive of GST. The Sydney City Toyota have quoted around $1400 for parts abnd labour for item 1 to 7 only. I did not send them the reviced list (adding item 8 to 15). My car has given me a very good service and I would like to keep it for few more years, the present cost of my car may be around $3000 to $3500. I am thinking about new shocks in the near future. Now spending something like $2751 (for items 1 to 15) may or may not be a good idea. I am also not feeling confident about Lubemobile, has anyone got experience with them for getting major repair jobs done? Anyone has experience with NRMA Car service? Toyota dealers will have all the required special tools and factory trained mechanics, although they may charge more they do peoper jobs. What are your thoughts? K8Canb
  16. I am looking for some advice, please help I need some idea about approximate cost of parts + labour the following items in 1995 Toyota Camry V6 Vienta VDV10 with 3VZFE motor, which has now clocked 210000 kms. I live in Canberra where the prices are ridiculously high. As I often visit Sydney, I could get the job done in Sydney. Please aslo suggest couple of places (dealer or private workshops) who do good work for a reasonable cost. I am looking for the following replacements: Timing Belt Idealer pully and associated bearings Water Pump Cam shaft, Oil pump and Crank shaft seals Alternater/air conditioner drive belt Spark plugs Clean Injectors and replace their O-rings Clean Air intake Replace both valve cover gaskets I will ask around and obtain quotes from few places in Canberra also.

  18. I was just wondering, how Toyota Australia run service costs compare with other dealers? In my expereince other Toyota dealers tend to over charge and try to recommend extra work to be done! I saw the web page of Sydney Cioty Toyota and it is impressive to see their service phoplosophy, do that really mean what they say? K8Canb
  19. Front lower left and right control arm bushes appear to be deteriorated (but no noise yet), one of the engine mount seen to be toren, however, the car drives well and has clocked 210000 kms. I thoughtt that after 14 years it may be good to replace all worn bushes. I asked pedders for a quote for just control arm bush change (as stated above) they quoted me $900 and LubeMobile quoted $500. I thought that that was too much. I am prepared to pay a reasonable price, I don't know what is reasonable as the work may just involve taking the control arms out, using a press pushing the bushes out; pushing in new bushes into control arms and finally fitting back the control arms. 20. Just wondering about the approximate cost to supply and replace all the bushes and ball joints in 1995 Camry Vienta (suspension as well as engine mounts)? And what is the best place to get the job done in Sydney? I am scared to even ask Pedders for a quote! K8Canb
  21. Hi Everyone, I am from Canberra and I drive 1995 Toyota Camry Vienta which has clocked 210000. Still drives well. K8Canb
