  1. I guess because I saw the amount of money you guys have dumped into your camrys and rollas , and when I look at engine mods and all i see is "pod filter" it kind of lead me to believe that most of you guys know nothing about speed or performance , but believe by adding all these cosmetic parts that others will think that you do have some level of performance....this is obviously not true. You guys acknowledge that almost every family sedan here offers close to no performance and is certainly much slower then any performance orientated car (imports etc) but instead mod it to suit your needs...for comfort, reliability and space to chuck your offspring.

But you have not the power to /thread!

If all you've seen is a pod filter in everyone's engine bays, you haven't been looking hard enough.

  2. i think you might be activating the "alarm thing" (wait ill get back to you on that i read it in the manual somewhere) where you press the button and hold for more than 3 seconds the "alarm" activates.

or there could be dirt underneath the button thing which is making it press it.

That's right, you can trigger the alarm manually by pressing and holding the unlock/lock button on your remote.

  3. Simple answer:

Putting imports in their place

    Real answer:

Saw it and fell in love with it at the dealers.

Found the forums, and realised just how much potential they have...

    *fantastic reliable car

*drives better then most cars (other then other Toyotas)

    *handles as if on rails

*already has its own 'street cred' when driving around

*very roomy and spacious (versatility of a hatchback)

*comfortable cruising mobile (apart from the suspension)

*the perfect sleeper (who mods a Corolla?)

*to be different, stand out from the crowd and not be a sheep.

*I have found imports to be costly and unreliable when start to play with them

Your original question did seem rather 'hating' but it goes to say...

"Why did YOU choose a Toyota over everything else?"

Got some big cohones there Mr Evo7

  4. If u want to save fuel, just accelerate slowly and enjoy being slow.. that is what I do.

    Really?

I can tell you my history of offense, half of them are careless

    1. Sep 2009 (3 pts) - Speed 20km/h in school zone, at that day, I was sick, and I was overtaking one vehicle, during overtaking, the school zone sign was on the left of me and painted on the ground.. I did not see it, I argue with the police that the school zone sign was flashing on one place and not the other..

    3. May-2010 (1 pt) - driving 67km/h at 60km/h zone in Great Ocean Road Melbourne

    4. July 2011 (4 pts) - driving 140km/h at freeway because it was a big down hill followed by up hill, and I drove at neutral gear, the whole journey did not speeding except that bit

  5. As said above dont touch those ebay turbo kits there thrown in cheap big time ,noting comes cheap if you wanna a proper build your looking at 10k for internal work ,if your looking at just a bolt on setup ypu will be still looking at 6-7k ,turboing a Camry involves alot of work but is possible,

best thing i would do is collect all the turbo parts that you need and you make your own turbo kit :) ,buy branded parts to be on the safe side hope this helps .

If you aren't going to throw massive amounts of boost at it (well, at least straight away), don't do the internals. It will prevent you from paying big $ up front.

  6. Monitor your tyre pressure and fill up when fuel is cheap. Keep a manual log of your mileages and fills if you want to work out your economy.

Trip computer is a guide only. Filling up on a cheap day with a discount voucher will be the most effective way to save $.

oh: Don't rev the car so much.

ahhh i see, yeh i shall do that in excel right away. but a question, what do you reckon still tho? filling up the fuel weekly regardless how much fuel left you got, or use up till the last bar of fuel left then go fuel up?

Fill up when it is cheap. Regardless of how much fuel you have left. I filled up on Wednesday but since the price has been pretty good I filled her up again today.

Your car isn't going to go 'Oh damn. crolladx doesn't have much fuel left and fill day isn't for another 5 days, I am going to consume less fuel to compensate', so just fill when the price is good.

  7. as far as i know, no one has accomplished the 2az to 2gr engine swap in the camry. Not even in the states.

And i agree with you KEF, the camry looks 10x better than the aurion

im planning that :whistling: as soon as i get $10000 (2GR-FZE) ultimate sleeperrr :spiteful:

    Sounds interesting.

  8. A turbo camry may put out similar power to an Aurion, but I wouldn't put any money down on it being a faster car.

Chances are any kit you buy (whether it be the kit you've linked or ones that Jeffy have), nothing is ever bolt on and you'll need to make modifications/add/remove things as you go along. You can boost anything if it is done right but I can't comment regarding how much boost you can put in before things start bending/breaking/getting thrown.

You also need to factor in an ECU as you will need to have it tuned as the factory ECU will not handle the boost. Realistically, the project will be around $5k.

  9. Was a good meet last night, better turnout than expected, although there were 2 downsides. Having our ears punished with masses of disortion and old mate leaning on Andrew's car was not on. Whoever that was in the red Corolla, inform your buddy thats pretty disrespectful before/if he comes to another meet.

He was quite adept at leaning on the Corolla so leaning on another was the next logical step.

But yes, very uncool. I don't even lean on cars with poor finishes without asking first.

  10. Thanks for the honest answers.Im sorry that I didnt ask it in a better way , I just truly wanted to ask this question before, not why an aurion , but "why an aurion if you are a car enthusiast when there are so many better offerings for what you desire."

What defines better offerings though? Safety? Electronic assistance? Power? Driver and passenger room? Boot space? Handling? Being a 'car enthusiast' does not immediately put your priorities for your car of choice as power and handling being your top 2.

As for what one 'desires' that is completely subjective. I have a modified Camry and have spent enough that I could have easily bought a GC8 WRX with plenty of pocket change that would be faster and handle better than it. But that isn't what it is all about.

  11. Here is a mini review on the Menzerna sample kit that I got from Waxit.com.au.

All products were used with the Concours 900 random orbital and Lake CCS pads (Orange, white, blue).

    Menzerna PF2500 - Power Finish

Light/Light-medium cutting power with a low defect finish and good gloss which makes it a good product to be used as a standalone polish.

When bundled with the Lake CCS Orange pad, this product is very effective against moderate swirling and light/moderate scratches. The polish is a diminishing polish and it is easy to work with and detecting it's 'ready' state is not difficult. It is a thicker liquid so it isn't as prone to slinging as some products. The finish is surprisingly good with a good glossy finish and there is very little in the way of remaining defects; which makes it able to be used as a standalone polish. However, it does lay down a good platform for finer polishing and waxes. Like other Menzerna polishes, it will require the surface to be de-oiled if using other waxes.

    Menzerna UF5000 - Ultimate Finish

Very light cutting power with a high gloss finish, perfect for light swirl removal and finishing off more aggressive cuts.

When bundled with a Lake CCS Blue pad, UF5000 is a fantastic polish to remove light swirls and defects left behind from more aggressive polishes. Like all Menzerna polishes, it is a diminishing polish that will need de-oiling if using other waxes and like the PF2500, this is a thicker polish which helps it resist slinging. The glossy finish of UF5000 is fantastic.

Menzerna SWPROTECT - Paint Sealant & Wax

Seals and protects while adding an extra depth of colour to your paintwork

SWPROTECT is a sealant and wax in one which does a good job of increasing the lustre of your paint while adding the protective layer of wax at the same time. It is like the other Menzerna products except this is a little thinner than the polishes and is prone to slinging if you aren't careful. Definitely worthwhile using.

Below are some pictures of some work done on my dad's Camry and my brother's Focus. Very happy with how things turned out.

  12. If it was there from factory it is there for a reason, best to leave it on.

Much like why you have harmonic.balancers on your crank pulley, pulsation dampener in your fuel system, snorkel/watercatcher for your air intake and insulated engine mountings.

  13. From the picture, the shape of the fog light frames looks as it will fit ok.

I ordered fog lights for a gen 5 Camry (by mistake as i have gen 5.5) from this ebay seller a few years ago,

these look similar to the one you want (without the tints)..

The Foglights from a pre-facelift (Gen5 - 08/02-08/04) to the post-facelift (Gen 5.5 - 08/04-X/06) are completely different and are not exchangeable. You must buy a 08/04-06 set of lights. Just by visuals alone you should be able to tell this.

    Pre-facelift:

    Post-facelift:

    EU205H.jpg

Part numbers for for the front bars and foglight assemblies are different as well. You must have got lucky and the seller has given you the wrong set of lights.

  14. You've had panel work done to the bonnet, any reason why it can't be done to the roof?

That's his old bonnet, he had to buy a new one for the old Blitz kit he put on.

Besides, he likes the look; I don't think he is gonna take them off!
