  1. I saw this on another forum and thought it was kinda interesting... :P

This is a place to just post exactly what it says... what you did to your car today. Anything from just washing/cleaning to mods or whatever.

today I listen to my favorite Sweetbox's new albumn from my beloved stereo, and gave my baby car a bath, seems totally new borned now! :D

Looked out through the bedroom window at it longingly. Alas, not much more I can do as I have broken my thigh bone (the biggest bone in your body) and am house bound.

  2. Ha ha 6.2 ltres and 18 litres per 100 against 3.5 ltres and 9 litres per 100. What a joke.

Jokes on you because the TRD doesn't stand a chance in a "proper" race.

AS we are talking road cars, all that counts is 0 to 60kph, 0 to 110kph, and passing speeds! Unless you use your car for racing or are a ?>!!... and then there is quality. Last 2 new Holden's I owned spent time just about every weak under warranty in the workshop. With problems as the dealer put it, Oh! that's Holden! or Oh! that's mass production! To which I replied. Oh that's my money!

  3. hey everyone,

this noise started a month ago, can not really tell that is from the front or rear. Sounds like eriiiiiik, and my friend told me it might be something against the tyres. But i double checked, nothing against them. The other guy told me that, coz my rear tyres are not really good tyres, when they started to wear out, they made that no

Hi not quite a reply but can anyone tell me: What is the quietest Tyre on the market for a 1999 Vienta, size 205 65 15?

  4. Hi Thanks for the response and yes I agree with most of what is said. However how come base model Falcons and Comodores aren't also constantly labeled boring etc by the same writers? My car is a 1999 Vienta Grande and is a long way from base model, also the V6 camry in1999 by the way was one second faster than the then VT Comodore V6 over 400 meters. I find it a joy to take off from the lights and leave the Fords and Coms in my wake. May be they just cant drive and the frustrated looks when they zoom past when sitting at 60 is classic. Ive had new Holden's and Ford's in the past. Fairmont a great car, 2 Holden's one blown up engine and back in the workshop just about every week with both Holden's. Build quality not a patch in my book !!!

  5. Hi, Why do so many AUS writers continually label every camry model as white goods, boring, etc. American writers don't seem to find this so. One wanders if they get some sort of pleasure, or feel they have to follow the leader with these comments. If true are all the buyers granddads? or one step from the grave? How come for years its been one of the top selling cars in Aus and I believe the best selling car in the USA? Its a great car and as a V6 has excellent all round ability to match anything in its class.

  6. I have an Aurion AT-X 07, purchased recently ex-Toyota "pool" car, only done 13,200klms, warranty runs out 06/11. It's the family sedan at present (until I take it over next year when the wife gets new a car !), so my question is, has anyone or do you recommend Scotch Guarding the interior ? Say the door trim only ?

    Appreciate your feedback

Hi I have used Scotch Guard since 1974 and still use it, its great. Don't skimp, give it a good coat. If you spill something on the seat it just wipes off. Or at least it has for me. It forms a waterproof coating. I've also used Armourall For years and have no complaints. Current car is a Vienta Grande with leather seats etc and so far have used Meguiars Gold Class and Autoglym but have not had time to make an assessment.

  7. most effective way to upload pics would be to use a file hosting site such as photobucket or imageshack.

if using photobucket copy paste the 'img' link into the thread (it will appear as words) when you press add reply the image will appear no need for us to click on a link. photobucket is free you just need to register.

    Thanks yes it worked.

I had the same thing happen on mine. Started off with like 10.xx L/100k or less in city driving when the car was new... now it's closer to 12L/100k in straight city driving. But then again, it's Melbourne - we probably have one of the poorest infrastructure for roads and public transport of any developed area in the world! =P

You wont have to go far to see worse. Try one of the other cities in Aus:

  9. (1) Chrome Grill:- 12mm pin striping on each of the cross bars. Top of tape just above top lip of bar, run the tape along the bar, cut to size and curl excess under bar. takes a little bit of patients but its easy. If you do a lot of country running subject to stone chips you might like to try covering the job with a few coats of clear lacquer but if so don't forget to undercoat the bars first with an appropriate plastic undercoat.

(2)Grande chrome emblem on rear doors, just above side protector garnish about 2 inches from the back of the rear door. Looks classy.

  10. i would use a relay harness to prevent any potential damage/melting of your stock wiring if they can't handle HID. you won't notice the damage to the wiring till its too late so its best to preven

hey thanks for the advice..i was going to put it without a relay actually..are the relays expensive to get? and also the xenons i am getting are the 35W version, not 55W so do you think still it will be an overload to the wires over a period of time? and yeah my 02' camry has the delayed headlight off system..but i hardly use it :)

    [/quote

HI I know nothing about HID but shurely if your sticking in 35watt globes instead of 55watt globes your drawing less power. So why would you need to bother about overloading? Or have I missed something.

  11. id like to know what comes to mind when members think of there cars, whats the first word that comes to your head to describe your ride?

mines :g: ......... perky  , not sure why but its what comes to mind

    INVIENTAD GRANDEOUS.

  12. Toyota can be quite expensive... I was quoted $600 (:o) from Toyota for a 150,000 km service... So I told them where to go... took it back to my home town and the Mazda dealer (my mum has a Mazda) and they did it for $200 and it still runs like a dream. The minor services I just do myself.. but yeah, find somewhere cheaper than Toyota, or find a decent Toyota dealer (sounds like you have some up in NSW)!

New member browsing old stuff. If your car was a V6 and you kept it for a long time you were either lucky or your motor could have come to a sudden diabolical stop because a $400+ requirement of the 150,000K service is replacement of the timing belt!

  13. Hi, did you know that the auto trans filter in the 1999 Vienta and I am led to believe, other similarly equipped cars, don't rate even a mention for servicing or cleaning for the full service life up to and including the 200,000 service. OK so its a stainless steel filter but still??!!? Dealer Quoted me a price of$290 to flush the system and remove blow out, clean and replace the existing filter, if I wanted it done.

  14. HI, car is a 1999 Camry, Vienta. Looking under the car, I noticed the sills, side rails or whatever!!! The bit under the doors that extends from the front wheel arch to the rear wheel arch, on both sides of the car, has eleven approx half inch holes with rubber plugs in each of them. Can anyone tell me why the holes? Rang Toyota and Toyota dealers but neither had a clue as to what they were for. Obviously a designe feature but for what.

  15. Im not sure but i think the orange peel should dissappear over time due to washing/waxing and general wear and tear..

    [/quot)

HI, Orange peel, is usually caused by the paint , type and consistency and applied pressure can play a part. ie: stove enamel (baked at about 250 degrees Fahrenheit) as applied to virtually all white goods in past years could not be practically applied without orange peel. There is some merit in stating that orange peel is a shield against minor defects, we are all victims of affordable price so compromise has to be tolerated. However am I right in saying orange peel seems a lot more prevalent on the lower parts of the car ie: bellow the waste line where it is not normally noticed. The new low bake paints appear to be able to be applied with very little to no orange peel.

  16. 3 suggestion...

1 - dont get 55w kit as they are ultra bright and will blind anyone passing you...

2 - get 4300k , 5000k or at max 6000k kit, they are all white color as mentioned above and ofcoz lessen the chance of getting you pull over for possible vehicle defect...

3 - lastly, make sure if you do install the kit, readjust the beam to (lower the beam sightly...) so again it doesnt blind those passing you...

    enjoy your conversion... :)

HI, would I be right in saying a 55W globe is a 5500K globe? just differently stated.

  17. Auto Barn had a special on the Phillips Blue Vision headlights the other week and I am curious to know if they are a standard fit into a Gen 4 Camry.

From what I can tell, they are Halogen and 12V but the gas inside operates at a higher temperature thus the colour of the light emitted is not the standard yellow.

HI my question is if using blue ie: white lights; how do they perform if you get caught in a fog? I suspect you would have a problem.

  18. just thought id let people know.

super cheap in vic are having a massive sellout on castrol edge atm. damn them, i purchased mine in the last sale for $38.88.

now they have them at $29.95 from $52.00

this is ridiculous. if only i knew....

better get them now more than ever, 40% off wont come again.

I owned and ran a1988 Six cylinder Ausy built Nisan Skyline from new for 260,000+KS over 16 years using Mobil 1 synthetic and the car was still running perfectly not using a drop of oil between 10,000K oil changes when I finally parted company with it.

  19. G'day guys,

i was clipped on the back today by a guy trying to change lanes. he scratched the bumper a little and damage isnt too bad. Slightly morphed a bit. I got his details and such but now im not sure where to go from there. I've never done anything like this. Should i make an insurance claim or something? and if so, how do i go about it? any help would be appreciated.

    thanks

With RACV they cover a hit in the rear with no excess (at least that's what they did for me), provided you give them the full details of the offending driver. I believe all or most of the insurance companies have some sort of an agreement with each other on this.

  20. Completely normal mate. My old Camry used to be the same. It's just so that the engine gets to running temperature faster.

Thanks for your prompt replies DJKOR and ASG14. I thought it was right but better to be sure than sorry. This is the quietest car I have ever owned along with a then new top of the range P76 V8. Not bad for a ten year old car with 17000+ KS on the clock.

  21. HI, can anyone help? I have recently bought a 1999 Camry Vienta Grande V6 auto and notice that first up on a cold morning the auto seems to linger in the lower gears for the first half to one kilometer or so till it warms up. Is this normal? Otherwise everything is really great.
