  1. Apparently he has to get under the car and get behind something or other.... I was happy that he felt so confident about what it was and that he had fixed this same problem for a few other corollas previously and i kinda forgot what else he said :P

I called up about 3 other auto electricians and also another toyota dealer before him. All said, they dont know what it is until they look at the car.

Honestly I'd rather pay more and have him fix it in 15 mins. At least he knows what he's doing. And at least this way i have for the weekend. :)

Btw, where is the light relay in the fuse box? Heres the fuse box from the service manual (not the user manual).

Which one of these is the light relay?

  2. Looked at the box last night... theres nothing for a the light relay only fans and stuff.

Anyways, im not going to muck around with something I have no idea about.

Gonna take it to Precision Car service at Silverwater.

He was able to tell me what the problem most likely was within 30 secs of me describing it.

Looks like a few corollas have had that in the past too.... but its gonna cost me $300 :(

Oh well, its $300 or driving at night with highbeams or no lights.

  3. my headlights seem really stuffed now...

i just drove to the in laws and the lights took a while to turn on (but they turned on).

When i got there, i turned them off and back on again.. no problems.

When i left (about 15 mins later) the lights refused to turn on. Had to drive for 15 mins without any lights... i did use high beams when i was by myself on the road :(

  4. Hoping to get some guidance from you guys here...

My corolla is about 5.5 years old now and my headlights are starting to play up a bit.

When i turn on my car and then turn on the headlights, the lights use to turn on straight away. Over the last few months, its the delay has started to increase, but not enough to really bother me.

Just yesterday, the lights took about 10 secs to turn on after i flicked the switch.

Thought that was rather odd, so i turned the lights off and on again... took about 7 secs.

Once the lights are on for a few minutes, I can flick them off and on instantly.

So far my work around for this is to hit high beams at the start.

Not sure if this is related as well, but my interior light also takes much longer to turn as well if the car has been off for a while.

Any ideas on what is wrong? Last thing i want is for my lights to be automatically turning off while im driving at night.

    Thanks

  5. I got a new widescreen monitor today... COMPAQ WF 1907.

My pc didnt have the option of reaching the resolution that this screen requires.

Right now my screen is set at the old screen's resolution 1280x768 @60Hz.

My new screen's optimum resolution is 1440x900@60Hz.

the drivers that i downloaded online for this screen dont even have the optimum setting! after installing the latest driver from the hp website, now the resolution options jump from 1280x768 to 1600x900..(roughly- i performed a system restore because i played around with the settings a bit too much). there is no way (as far as i can see) to manually set the screen resolution to exactly what i need!

You need the VIDEO card drivers not the monitor card drivers.

The monitor "drivers" are really just a profile to tell windows what refresh settings it likes at certain resolutions.

is there any other way besides via the display settings in the control panel to change the monitor settings????

HELP! im sick of looking at my screen being stretched out n not so in focus.

Thats the right place to change the monitor.

What you need to do is look up the type of video card you have (look under the advance tab in the monitor settings).

Download the latest driver and you should have the required resolution.

    www.nvidia.com or www.ati.com or www.intel.com

depending on what graphics card you got.

  6. hmmm i remember Jaze55 organised a Gb for these about a year ago.... got them off ebay or something.

$55 delivered for a set of 4 (but the fit the sedan) so most only used the front and the rear ones were sitting around gathering dust.

Non genuine of course, but they did the job. The tint was also darker than then genuine ones.

  7. I wouldnt hesitate, Justcar are a big well known company and owned by aami as mentioned, if anything id expect better customer service from then when compared to NRMA

How old are you? and whats your driving history like?

$1512 a year seems very expensive!

    Have you tried any others?

    allianz, gio, etc?

Ultimately an insurance company legally cannot deny your claim because your car has an intake and wheels, i imagine your wheels are completely legal anyway? Tyre condition would be more of an issue, and even then its very hard to deny a claim on this.

    age: 27

    driving history = 10 years.

last crash = 10 years (was a write off)

last speeding ticket = 8 years

    pretty clean driving history

then again i am in Sydney.

Ive tried a few places and all are like $1200+ :(

Even tried the budget insurance thingy that compares various companies (cant remember the site anymore, found the leaflet in my mailbox).

  8. Hey guys,

Im thinking of changing to Justcars insurance.

The cost of my insurane is $1100 or so, but if i change to the highest flexi premium, it goes down to $680.

My current insurance with NRMA is $126 per month = 1512.

Is it worthwhile going with Justcars?

Only "modifications" are the TRD CAI and Sportivo 16" wheels (car is a Corolla Conquest Sedan).

So what are ppl's opinion of Justcars anyway?

    Thanks

  9. Just a quick question for all Yaris Sedan YRS automatic owners.

Does your Yaris dashboard lightup to tell you what gear you are in?

Because in the user manual it shows that it is there, but it doesnt seem to appear in the car.

I've shone a torch and cant even see a trace of it.

    Thanks.

  10. sif fkn tb

Something tells me tb doesn't mean Tuberculosis to you.

i was thinking the same thing.... so other than tuberculosis what else does TB stand for?

  11. Finally got the car today... it should have been ready at 9am for pickup and it was. Problem is there were still defects on the car!

Seriously cant Toyota Pre Delivery do their job properly? I can also see why I had that problem to begin with, Pre-delivery there are just a bunch of lazy non caring knobs.

They resprayed the front guard where the scratch was, nice job, couldnt really tell it had been fixed.

Problem was, the knobs that did it didnt cover the bonnet property and i ended up with small paint specs on the bonnet.

Asked them to buff it out, they tried and conceded that they couldnt completely buff it out because it was paint specs.

Gave the keys back to the dealer told them to give me a new Yaris.

Obviously this was too hard to do as they already had it rego'd, so they opted to give me a new bonnet from another Yaris they had in stock (which incidentally was already sold to another person).

Questioned the manager on that, he replies back with "oh that customer isnt picking up the car to next week, so we got more time to fix it"..... seriously WTF? Is that how they do business? (I feel pretty sorry for the person whos expecting to get their brand new yaris next week. Lets hope they look at the bonnet carefully.)

Told them that i wanted to go down there and watch them do it, again Toyota werent particularly happy, but i insisted.

Anyways, new bonnet installed on my car (not particularly happy that it had to go down that path) colour matches about 99%, in dim places it look a bit off, but in the sunlight it looks like it matches 99%, so ive accepted it anyway (also not keen on the fact the the nuts that hold the bonnet are 100% new anymore, but thats minor).

Tints were also redone, just one small spec on the rear window, but i accepted that.

All in all, job wasnt really to my satisfaction (as by that point all i wanted was another Yaris instead), but at least the car has extremely minimal imperfections.

Would i go back to that dealer again? Probably not, $500 cheaper isnt worth the hassle.

  12. ! i went back, and drive all around the sales and service department, ended up finding a possible place that caused this.. he was definately driving carelessly and fast.. Fuk them.. and i cant do any shxt..

What do you mean you couldnt do anything about it? Didnt they acknowledge the fault? Or were they say that you caused it on the way home?

Dont accept the car if you arent 100% happy with it, its your money and when pick it up it should be pristine as its brand new. My Aurion had a scratch done by the tinters that i didnt notice until I got home. Lucky the guys at LeMans were really good, I got it fixed when I brought it in for the first service.

Did the spray the whole panel? or just use touch up paint?

  13. hey, sorry for misunderstanding... yea, lucky you didnt just drive the car away.. fuk them all, and remember when picking up again next time, check for OTHER possible scratches.. your agent might just add 1 for you~ like what happen to me..

You serious? They went a purposely scratched another part of the car? Thats not very bright of them. Though i will be careful, thanks for the heads up.

  14. A scratch in the panel is just not on. Even if they respray it, that front quarter panel may not match the rest of the car particularly if you've chosen metallic paint.

Actually the car is quicksilver (mica/metallic).... so what can i do if that is the case? Can i demand they give me a completely different car over it?

My only fear is that the other car might have had something similar (never know with the pre-sale delivery guys... they might be complete knobs)... and its been covered up as well.... what should i do?

Thanks for everyone's feedback :) I was wondering if i acted like a bit of a prick by declining his offer to "fix it at the next service", but i think ive done the right thing here.

Will let you all know how i went when i eventually get the car.... at the moment we're driving the car we traded in as a "loan car" LOL
