  1. Hehe - I guess it depends on what kind of job I get out of uni; looking to upgrade a year or two out of uni, too bad the Aurion isn't in a manual though (especially the TRD one!)

Yeah I'm down in Vic in Bendigo for uni, I'm from North East vic though - Wangaratta. How about you?

  2. Thanks for the input CHROMEEZ and the link vivioman - thinking I'll just wait until it does (or if) it falls out and worry about replacing it then. You can't tell anyway unless you push it in (its sort of wiggly in its place), and I doubt it'll pop out unless its seriously windy/a lot of water gets in or something, and it never rains in Bendigo lol

  3. Well, this is my 1995 Camry. Pretty stock, Manual 4cyl 5S-FE engine but in a town full of uni students (including myself) its fun to show who's boss to P platers in Hyundais who think they're hot heheheh

So far I've added some 4" Hertz front speakers (from memory they're around 100 watts), some 6 x 9 350 watt Kenwoods in the rear and a Pioneer 200 watt DEH-5850, chrome exhaust tip, remote central locking with immobiliser and some pretty nice 15" alloys. (Probably won't go bigger due to cost, plus a couple years out of uni I'll upgrade anyway)

Planned for the end of the year is window tinting as dark as I can go (sun often shines in on trips home to Wangaratta) and I guess maybe other small mods. It was going to have a spoiler painted and put on that I got off a fellow camry at a wrecker but unfortunately it cracked. I've been thinking that the Camry looks better without it anyway :) Any other fellow camry drivers in Bendigo or North East Victoria?

  4. Hi all, been a long time since I posted here so forgive me if it's in the wrong place. I got rear ended last month and after having repairs done it seems that the accident has aggravated an underlying problem - water/condensation previously got into my RH drivers side tail light but I'm told now that the lens is actually separating from it and is probably going to need to be replaced. The RACV/Repairer are still discussing whether it should be replaced because of the accident, but don't think that's going to happen. The car was taken back to them a second time today because the gaps around the tail lights/boot was too large (not fixed properly).. its been reduced but unfortunately still a little bigger than all the other Camry's.

Anyway I've two options seeings the tail light lens is probably going to work its, and lord knows what else, way out. I could attempt to use some kind of adhesive to glue the lens back to the light and hope it works, or replace the whole assembly. Super Cheap Auto have a pair of performance tail lights for $195 and they said they're like those clear ones you can get for Commodores etc.. Has anyone seen what they look like or if they're any good? The car is Panama Blue (green colour) so not sure what it'd look like.

Any input on the matter is much appreciated :)

  5. Fantastic! I'm a huge fan of that Gen of Camry (I love my 95 manual csi to bits) and would love that bodykit on mine... the mod's sound fantastic, be sure to post some pics as you progress!

  6. I use Toyotas genuine coolant... I dont know if $12.95 a litre is considered expensive... I've also been told by many that when needing a top-up you can be a bit relaxed with the ratio and add more water to top it up.. but yes, dont mix coolants!! Flush out the radiator of the old first :)

  7. I've the same year Camry (not a vienta though) - if the timing belt hasnt been replaced already then it's a good idea to do it now... mine was replaced at 100,000 so won't need to be done again until the 200,000 mark. I do my minor 5000km services myself wtihout worry, and the major services I take to the Mazda dealer in Wangaratta where I'm from (where mum bought her car - the blokes are great) and they do it pretty cheap - only cost me $200 for my big 150,000 service and it got the works. I guess you've just got to shop around like the people above have suggested...

Don't go to Toyota - they have forgotten that they have older model Camry's and are pretty unprepared to deal with them.. I recently contacted my local dealer regarding wheel specs and they told me they dont have any data for anything "that old" which I thought was pretty pathetic. Just because it's a decade old doesnt mean people still dont require work/info on them! Definitely find out how old the timing belt is though :)

  8. If Mitsubishi, Holden & Ford can continue making manuals in a sedan with a bit of grunt (not to mention many other companies) then I don't see why Toyota can't... anyway I'll stop harping on about it, but its still not good enough. Still a very nice looking car though :)

  9. Yeah good point - it still sucks though! I'm not concerned about having a manual with a whole heck of a lot of power, I just want a V6 manual for next car and was looking forward to making that a Toyota. Holden/Ford have big monsters with manual transmission and they sell... Ahh well!

  10. Grr... Won't be getting a next gen camry or aurion then :( I cant stand this new age of car developing where manual transmission has fallen by the wayside.. it just absolutely sucks! I will be turning to another company for a manual V6 sedan then for my next car in a couple years.

  11. Im thinking of getting a pair of Hertz to go with my kenwood 6 x 9's in the back... I've a 95 Camry so they'll only be 4 inch... Autobarn have them for $80 in a 4 inch... I'm not looking to have it win at any comp or anything, just to match the good sound I get from the Kenwoods and make it a little louder & clear (as the fronts rattle) - would the Hertz do the job??

  12. Have they addressed the transmission issue yet?? I emailed Toyota Australia about the Aurion and they said they couldn't tell me because they didn't know - I've still got a slight hope that there will be a manual V6, although it looks increasingly doubtful! Anybody got any more news re transmission?

  13. Just a further update... I had another go the other day when the car was clean: I used a toothpick and dipped it in the paint wiping excess off on edge of tin.. You then just dab it on the chip/scratch, let it dry for like 1-2 seconds and with a soft cloth, like a rag, rub it off & in. It actually worked really really well and was quite effective on the deeper scratches on the car.. the best part is you cant actually SEE it at all.. I hope I described that well.. try at your own risk I guess!

  14. Anyone in the North East of Victoria?? I'm in Bendigo... not many nice Camry's here :( Mine is getting a spoiler on Tuesday and mags soon too, so I'll probably become one of the nicest here (certainly for a Gen 3 anyway). Once spotted a White Gen 3 Camry with the overseas (as far as Ive seen its available to import) nice bodykit in the Wangaratta area with nice exhaust... would love that kit for mine lol

Loving the sounds of all these nice Camry's in Sydney! And all the ones on the forum - you've all got lovely cars!

  15. Yeah - Autobarn said around that price for a small can... a bit more for it in an aerosol, so I went to a local automotive paint supplier and as above it was $13 for a tin which matches exactly and worked fantastic.. went on flat. If there is a good auto paint supplier around I would try them over Autobarn, simply because theyre making it constantly daily... he also gave me great advice on other areas and was very helpful, have been back to see him since regarding spoiler i picked up.

  16. Yeah - was never going to try that. Have since been back and they are no good anyway, only two of the rims are in good enough condition to put on, the others all have lots of gouges/scratches etc Will just have to stick to my trusty hubcaps lol

  17. You both bring up interesting points - for me in regards public transport if it wasnt so crappy in regional Vic i would use it to get around, however as it stands I drive 5 mins to uni there and back daily (weekdays) because its uphill (so cannot walk/ride due to heaviness of bag - not great neck/back at times)... so perhaps more emphasis needs to be placed on improving other alternatives to driving as well as making driving cleaner.

As for the fuel point Im incredibly happy with my 4cyl Gen-3... I use a quarter of a tank every week and a half and I do an absolute crapload of around town driving... so for $20 odd every week and a bit Im happy... All i care about is having a manual lol

  18. Hahah perth.. itll go quick enough for me already! Ive just got my fingers crossed for a manual option but it just doesnt look like its going to happen... I was deadset keen on making it my next car in a couple years when I ditch current car and look for a second hand near-new one, but not if there isnt a manual - I'll be having manuals until my legs get too old to use the clutch! lol

  19. It'll definitely be a shame if there is no manual.. I was thinking of making it my next car in a couple of years but not if theres no manual! Thanks for sharing the site - the interactive stuff is a pretty cool way to demonstrate the car.. gave the gear shifting a go and I was watching it and it said 6.5 something when I got to 60 but it keeps claiming I did it in 6.6/6.7 secs lol

  20. Hehe yeah, or so Ive heard at any rate... Obviously you just wouldnt have as much rubber over the tyres for the road so probably not the best option... I believe thats one method of getting really low profile tyres so the mags stand out more. I would prob be looking at trading tyres in anyway for a bit of cash back and getting 15"'s it match anyway :)

  21. Which Camry is it? A Gen 3 1997 or the first of the Gen 4's?? I've a Gen 3 Camry (1995) and all of the poking around Ive done comes up with about an average of a 3 out of 5 (a little higher if you've got airbags)... the framework seems to be pretty darn hard.. as an example I nabbed the spoiler off another Gen 3 Camry (getting fitted soon!) at a wreckers that had taken a really hard hit to the front and it was still really intact..

I guess with cars around that age some have the safety features and some dont as its really only from then onwards that it has become really important... but yeah I would say its probably around 3 stars out of 5. I hope that helps answer your question a little more!
