Hi. Could anyone point my in the direction of someone who is familiar with and could knock up some engine mount adaptor plates? I'm about to have a crack at this conversion. They don't look too tricky to make but having them on hand would be a bonus, Cheers
I cant help with that sorry... but you could always move the standard mounts rather than make an adaptor plate. That in itself would be have its own challenges.
If you get down to Batemans Bay ever.. inbox me and you can have a look in person and take some measurements.

Thanks for the prompt reply, Daniel.
I'm running 35s, so hopefully the gearing will not be too much of a problem.
i've located a 2000' 1kz-te with everything you've mentioned. It's a cable throttle, so should be relatively straight forward, though i don't have much experience with electrical. You have a ballpark on how much you ended up spending with your auto electrician?
Cheers.
Hi,
To be honest I cant remember how much it cost... he spent 2-3 hours on it.. I used the original key and barrel which had to be wired up correctly.. (even though it started before the electrician did his thing).. little things like the fan, clock, wipers, and some other dash bits needed some tweaking.. if I'd had the wiring diagram I could have figured most out myself.
I now have a manual.. I recommend getting one if you don't have it already.
Cheers

It's always a good idea to check for the less obvious reasons why something isn't working... like a fuse...

Is any fuel getting up to the pump in the first place? The primer/lift pump may not be doing its job.
Yes there is diesel getting into the primer and pump.. I have checked by removing the outlet hose and diesel comes out when push on primer.

Hi all,
I replaced the plenum and intake on the 1kzte.. I had to disconnect the lines from pump to injectors to get the job done.
Before starting the change everything was running fine.
Now I cannot get the lines bled up to the injectors.. I have cracked the lines at injectors so the air can release, pumped the primer and turned the engine over
too many times to count.. no diesel is coming out of the lines.. the manual I have for the engine/hilux is of no help.
Is there something Im missing here? A nut to crack on the pump? A screw or something on the pump to help the bleed?
Thanks for any advice

HI,
Truck looks awesome!!
I just bought a 95' LN106R 2.8L diesel, and am looking at doing the same conversion as you have.
Just a question regarding the transfer case. Its possible to buy a transfer case adapter in order to continue using the LN106's existing gear-drive t/c instead of importing the 1kz-te's chain-drive t/c. Apparently the gear-drive number is better?
Any knowledge on this?
Any help much appreciated :)
Matt
Hi Matt,
Thanks.. I get a smile every time I drive it.. I can tell you one thing... the 1kz-te gearbox is much larger than the 3L box, and I'd be surprised if it was possible..
My only complaint about the whole setup is that the standard diffs for the LN106 are geared to low for the 1kz. But if you have decent size tires you'll be ok.
Things you must have for this conversion are..the complete wiring loom with computer, steering column controls/stalk, dashboard with rpm speed etc, speedo cable, gearbox and one piece tailshaft, 1kz air box, (3L box is very small and restrictive) exhaust system upsize.

The bullbar and rear bar will be sprayed in hammer tone along with the inside of tub.

Hi Victor,
How did your friend go? The mechanic who passed my conversion had no problem with the mounts on mine..
A bit of an update to the Hilux.. its getting a respray.. should be able to post up some pics very soon.
Its going to be Holden purple.. something different!

Ok cheers :)
the radiator off eBay is going to be a lot cheaper got quoted $800 for one to be made ! Although I'm sure it would be better quality I can't justify it.
Engine mounts must be good then have you had any problems with diff clearance?
I'm about to start the wiring...., not my favourite job but hopefully it will be going soon
No problems with diff clearance.. everything went smoothly.. the wiring job was not fun at all.. I recommend an auto elec for the final touches.. I got it going but some of the dash accessory stuff was wired slightly differently.. but if you have the wiring diagram you should be ok.

Here is a pic of the right mount.. as you can see the plate that is welded on the original mount is quite thick and measures about 11cm across.. the space between the centre of both bolts is 2 inches..
What you cant see is 2 extra small bolts that are below each large bolt. to stop pivoting.
-
Im about to do this same conversion any chance i got get a couple adapter made up ? Or can you give me the specs and ill have a go amaking some up
Thanks
Hi.. I cant make them for you... but I could possibly take some measurements for you and take some pics.. I wont be able to do this until the weekend though..

Righto I take it you put the plastic fan off the ln106 onto the 1kzte viscous hub ?
I have about 20 mm clearance at bottom off radiator using 1kzte fan which I thought was a bit close.
Engine mounts are adaptor plates based off how you made yours, maybe they are 10mm to fare forward however the gearbox cross member bolts in perfectly.
I was going to get an ebay radiator however I wasn't sure if they where any good an the outlets seem like they will have to be changed ?
Sorry about all the questions any advice is really appreciated
Yes you are right about the fan.. also I found that the 1kz motor moves a bit more when I revved it up and the fan bumped on the fan shroud.. so I just cut a section out and all good.
If the gearbox cross member all fits perfectly then you have the mounts right I would think..
The Radiators are completely different for the 1kz an 3l. I had to cut off the bend section on the bottom of the radiator I had for it to work.. I got one of the aluminium radiators you can find cheap on ebay for the 3L long before I did the conversion and it works perfectly..
Happy to help.. ask away

Hi I'm in the process of doing this convention and was wondering how much clearance between the radiator to fan you have and where did you get the radiator from ? Having a few issues :(
Hello,
I'm using the original ln106 fan on the 1kz motor.. (maybe this is the difference?) I've got an ebay aluminium radiator that is larger than standard.
I had to remove some of the original fan housing on the right hand side.
What did you do about the engine mount position?
Hope this helps.

Change it... most mechanics insist on it... its not worth the risk IMO... and while its all pulled part why not. :)

I now have a snorkel.. I will update with some new pics. Engine bay is also tidier..
Im getting a new plenum made up from stainless as this one is a bit leaky on the manifold side.. losing boost under load, but its minimal.
-
Sorry for the late reply to above...
No I didnt have to cut anything related to gearbox... if its an LN106... the KZN165 Gearbox which comes with the 1kz should work perfect... your problem is the engine mounts which is probly the 2 inches in question.. see above pics for this mod.
-
Hi Bec... You will need the KZN165 dash... and the complete wiring loom.. send me a PM if you need advice.. :)
edit... the 3rd pic in this thread shows then KZN instrument panel... that is all you need.. just the instrument panel.. cause the KZN complete dashboard etc wont fit it in.. (so ive been told)

I thought you might know its history due to its rarity and your patrticipation in many forums... but I have now discovered it was from QLD.. and now will be registered in NSW near me.. mystery solved... :)

Hey Hiro.. do you know anything about this car?

Hi..
A few questions..how many km's has it done, have the injectors ever been replaced, does the injector pump leak at all, have you ever replaced the diesel filter.. have you checked the air intake/filter..
-
He knows exactly what he is talking about.i would listen to steve on this topic sounds like he knows a bit about subject.
Unlikely, more commonly valve stem seals or injector seals. Whilst it could be possible, turbo seals are more common under loads and on lift off overrun. The smoke on start-up could be worn turbo seals
"You would notice smoke under load"
You like to shorten my quotes.. lol... Im not claiming to be an expert.. just saying... I still think the KM Q. was valid.
-
The smoke on start-up could be worn turbo seals.. how many km's on engine?
You would notice smoke under load and your oil should be dropping?
