Car looks great dude! :D

I used to own an AE102 which is essentially the same car... almost.
First things first.
Smack a pod in the intake and put a catback exhaust on it so it sounds like a monster devouring children like a baws. Then buy some coilovers (mrpltd.co.nz ;) ) and better tyres. Try and do some headwork, up the comp to 10.7:1 and get some cams made up, and then start removing weight :)
Think about what makes a hot hatch hot, they have a spirited noisey motor, which isnt essentially fast, and they go around corners like crazy... thats what you want to replicate :)
I stopped after that first step of the pod, must say these cars have a crazy intake sound :D but the lack of revs and power (less weight?) made me go to a much much hotter hatch, a 4AGE AE82 ;)

You need to look more places for wheels, the local rim shops dont have anything good at all IMO...
This might tickle yo fancy: http://www.importmonster.com.au/shop/index.php?cPath=40_45&page=1&sort=3a
Theres also Ebay, Ozhonda, JDMST, Firesport, Toymods ,nengun, gorilla industries... and Otomoto as mentioned above is a good one aswell
Happy wheel hunting! ^_^

Good stuff!! Any vids of the day? car is turning out to be surprisingly quick, with a few more mods who knows how quick this thing will be! :D
Also, just wondering how do you get the breakdowns of timing in each session?
-
Word has it the car will be done in the next few days, only problem is im gonna be 6+ hours away in the middle of no where. Ive organized the old man to pick it up and finish a few things off for me till i get back... Man i miss this car, cant wait to drive it! :D
-
hmmm... I think we need a drawing picture thread... good stuff dude! keep practicing and youll notice how quickly youll improve :)
And all the best with the 4EFTE mini build! ;) :P hehehe

I was thinking about one of those broadway mirrors, im gonna assume that you like them? :P 360mm concaved... damn, you dont find that too big?

That sucks! shame you got shafted with the wheels, hope they werent too exxy, but they do look good ^_^
I feel your pain, in my mums subaru i came back out of the shops and it was parked in the middle of no where, but some prick walked all the way over to it and decided the rear passenger door needed a makeover with their foot.... not a good feeling :(
You going to the tampered one this weekend? Will you give the short track a go in the arvo? Best of luck dude!
Also this...

Looks good ben! car goes real hard
I want semis so bad, best of luck with them!

Saw that Caldina last week at the exact same spot lol
Thats a sexy Mazda... i think you guys are ruining the photo :P
-
Need moar pics... where abouts does it go on?
-
Hey look at what i found hiding under my bed :o
So what you can see is...
- 18mm 3pt adjustabe rear sway bar
- 350mm Nardi Deep Corn
- Catch can
I also have a 440g Skunk2 gear knob, but i already put that on the car so i can't take photos of it at the moment :(
Also, I started refurbing my daily wheels... ill just leave this here for now ;)
-
I'd like to come to one of these meets... fingers crossed the car is back on the road for the next one :)
-
IMO KU31's are a great daily tyre, and i will be using them for daily use soon aswell. Good choice :) Ben it isnt like he is tracking the car and pushing the tyres to the limit... because even then, the KU36's and RE002's just cut it for track work when compared to semis and slicks.
Coilovers definitely make the car a different beast around corners... have you tried fiddling with the shock settings? youll be surprised how much of a difference one or two clicks makes around corners or over bumps :)
Oh crap! :s thanks for reminding me that i have to get an alignment... still havent done that yet LOL!!

I acknowledge the work Subaru has done here, I do, but lets be honest....
In my eyes, Toyota planning has shone through far more in the end product. No dismissing the Subi drivetrain either.
- Styling cues taken from the classic 2000GT
- NON turbo
- 2 seater
- Light weight
- Deliberately built to drift
- Conservative power output
- Rear wheel drive
Subaru had never designed these aspects into any of their range, ever. Im not saying they wouldnt, its just they never have.
I wonder why they are trying to steal the thunder? After all, its obvious they have been working on this together for some time now...
Many supercars share the same engines and drive train components, yet you dont hear them claiming rights to brands..
Im a bit puzzled too, and i came up with the conclusion that Subaru will just not be able to compete with toyota on the pricing side of things, so they're trying to win the people over with some form of ethical brand loyalty... I feel there is a hint of a 'sore loser' attitude coming from them..
AFAIK, Toyota did all of the engine electrics and the fuel system, yamaha did the heads, toyota refined the engine block. I also read somewhere that the gearbox is from the Lexus IS...
Toyota was the first and was the only company until now with a boxer engine FR car (Sport 800), as you said the styling has hints of the 2000GT, a light cheap fun RWD car much like the AE86 which is quite modest... So it seems to me this car is more Toyota than Subaru, they just helped with most of development particularly the suspension and chassis, while creating the base design for the engine.

-
haha you might just see me there :P
oh you drove home on 2 cylinders? i thought you had a trailer
Aww yeah!! should be a good day B)
Yep! I had to... Nah, didnt have a trailer, but ive learnt for next time that i have to bring one... dont want to limp home on 2 cylinders for 3 and a half hours again lol
-
Not being silly. This is how i fixed my AE102's smoking and fuel problems... I poured BP ultimate 98 ron and then proceeded to thrash it hard for about 100 kays then ease off for a hundred then thrash again, until i used up the tank.
-
eager to hit it up on the track again soon.
Australia day in January, the tampered day ;) ;)
i headed for the 1.5hr drive back home, unbelievably the car somehow managed to limp home. You call that limping? Please. Should i remind you of my trip home from winton? :P hahahaha
love the muffler statues! LOL
Good job on getting those issues fixed up. :)
-
haha can't go wrong with mrp! his a good block. I was also surprise how much nicer they look in person than pictures. where abouts you see me drive around?
Agreed. Cheap products, top quality and he is always willing to help with any issues... You'll love the coilies when you put them in. :)
I was on the opposite end of some traffic lights somewhere on the eastside, cant remember where... It was a while ago when i had my AE102, so i was camo'd in all the traffic :P
