So you are asking me why I modify my little granny box Corolla that you give no cred to?
I drive and modify cars because they bring me joy, its something i love doing and 'wasting' my money on. It builds skills, brains, confidence, friendships and memories that no other pieces of metal could.
Why a corolla you ask? Because it does just that.
I love how its a light car that handles extremely well
I love bouncing around on the street due to my stiff suspension and listening to all my passengers complain about it
I love how it has more room than a van in the back when i have no seats... but i cant carry anything fragile due to said stiff suspension :P
I love hating when it scrapes when i run the car at a low ride height
I love how it keeps up to cars that should be alot quicker than it.
I love the engine screaming to insane revs and that it has enough go to keep me happy
I love the history behind my car in motor sports
I love the way it looks... but because i am a modifier, im never 100% happy :P
I love always being the under dog and people giggling when i tell them i drive 'some corolla'
It isnt a civic, nor a pulsar... so it doesnt fit into the majority of stereotypes held by those cars... And because of that it builds its own rep with whatever it does.
I love how its a really cheap car and achieves all this :P
I love my little car, its not the fastest car in the world by any means, its not the coolest car by any means, and its not the most practical car by any means either... but it makes me happy :)
I use it for what I want it to be used for, and in the end of the day thats what any modifier wants it to be in their life for. Its more than a granny box, or a family sedan, its one of the only pieces of metal you can have a relationship with. AND, If youre a true enthusiast you will see behind the corolla or camry badge. If you are just trying to get rep in the maccas car park then continue doing that and dont come and bother true car enthusiasts with your authoritative and somewhat offensive tone.

AE82 for less than $1500. add coilovers for $1000. Then second hand semi slicks for ~$500 give or take. WINNAR!

Hahaha typical twincam antics :P, TOCAU doesn't condone skids so no skids for this cruise/meet. Got more specific directions to get to that massive carpark? If everyone is keen we'd probably end up going there.
hahaha indeed! :P Nah im just joking mate, i wouldnt do or want anyone to do anything stupid when driving a car, especially on the streets!
Its at the summit which is the end of the road that goes up lake mountain. :)
EDIT: directions from buxton: http://maps.google.com.au/maps?saddr=Buxton,+Victoria&daddr=Lake+Mountain+Rd&hl=en&ll=-37.477583,145.793381&spn=0.153939,0.309334&sll=-37.496295,145.877838&sspn=0.004809,0.009667&geocode=FdP7xP0dI1evCClX2pixtBEoazEgeKAwpHkFBA%3BFbPcw_0duuqxCA&vpsrc=0&mra=ls&t=h&z=12

Ahh this meet would be awesome! Been up past Healsville countless times. The black spur run is a bit of a waste of time IMO... head out past there to buxton (mmm... burgers...) then go to marysville and then up lake mountain. Smooth flowing roads that lead up to a huge car park (no skidz... ok mebbeh a few) then a 10 minute walk to some awesome scenery. Would make for some nice photos :)
Have fun guys! ill try and make it to the next one, this one clashes with the classic japanese car show
Im down for garage cafe... place looks mad!!

Ahh right... thanks hiro

4AGE is the powerful performance engine, and it has EFi. It revs to about 7600rpm and on the cam covers it says "Toyota Twin Cam 1600" or something
4A-C is the 1.6 Carby version, with the granny spec head and a fair bit of less power. << This is the one you have

how heavy is the AC? Do you use your car as a daily? what happen to summer and raining. AC serve its purpose
ahh dw ben we here in melbourne are used to our hot days, it may be hot, but not as humid :D even i dont use the AC :P
^ THIS. And anyways, if it gets too hot ill steal my mums car :P

Degreased everything from the PS fluid an removed the A/C completely :)

: When I floor the accelerator I have to admit I get the most unpleasant engine rev :( And I feel that I'm doing too much harm to the engine :P hehe
Dont be scared of revving these engines. For some reason the A series engines need a bit of a rev and thrash every so often to keep them clean on the inside. Could be the issue of your fuel, carbon build up is causing your car to be restricted or something? You can use injector cleaners and what not, but give it a little thrash and it may be ok. Ive seen it done before :) (But if you blow your engine... dont come complaining to me! :P )
Mine happily revved to the limiter whenever i wished and never had one problem! actually it had one problem but it fixed itself. Most reliable car evar!

Hey, I used to have an AE102 Corolla RV with the 7AFE and a manual transmission.
I had mixed results in fuel consumption depending on 3 different things:
- Where i got my fuel from
- How much tyre pressure
- How i drove the car
Best i had ever achieved was 6.2L/100km, with 195/65/14 tyres and 45PSi, with some granny driving to suit.
I averaged between 7-8's.
HTH :)

3 door ZRE? Awesome!! never even knew these existed. awesome car man :)

rFactor!!! :D love it!! used to play that so much, but i moved on to a mac :( Its amazing how that game really does improve your driving

....
Thanks mate :) I actually dont have a video sadly, i had a bit of a stupid moment and forgot to turn the camera on during the excitement building up to the last session. Posted my times and then turned the camera on just to catch my head gasket blowing :/
The cause was because of two reasons. The first being the heat and stress getting to the motor, and the second was the dodgy engine builder who "reco'd" the engine 2 owners ago was a bit silly and put a shim in between the gasket and the block so the driver could run the car on 91ron fuel. When the 4 materials of the block, shim, gasket and head are all flexing in different directions all it takes is a little of the shim or gasket to go into the combustion chamber to blow that gasket to bits.
After assessing and working on the car the last few days the engine builder was a butcher! missing bolts and mismatching bolts on the head and everywhere in the engine bay! not happy with the head of that engine one bit!
Guess I was just stuck behind the wrong people :(
LOL thats my favorite photo, its an awesome shot! :)
...Theyre an awesome tyre! probably the best street/track compromise tyre you can get, I daily drive on them aswell and theyve lasted easily over 6000km including the previous owner using them as just a track wheel as i had bought them second hand. I saw in your thread a picture of you driving along kings road here in delahey, so youre local to me. When my car is back on the road ill be taking my wheels off and you can take them for a spin if you would like to try them out :)
My car in current spec is about 915 kilos give or take a few... but it will weigh roughly 875 by the end of next week... ( youll see some pics below)
Remove your seats Phil! get rid of that extra weight!
With my new setup and a wheel alignment done im hoping there is a sub 1:48 on these tyres. Rece you to 1:45? :P
...once again thanks for the shots Jeff! :)
So today? Frustrated and fed up from working on this stupid FWD Bigport, which has a few stupid design flaws and the fact that a butcher had rebuilt the engine in the past, I cracked it with the engine and decided to rip it out. All is good now, Im happy :)
So what are the plans?
- Ditch the power steering! Why you ask? Well having heaps of issues with it with exploding PS lines and on the track leaks everywhere, the mess and clutter was not worth its benefits. And I will be installing a stock manual steering rack from another AE82 (random pic of stains under wheel well is from the PS, stained my wheel too :( )
- Ditch the AC. Wasnt gassed, therefore it is useless weight and more clutter.
- Place a smallport 4AGE in the gap that is hopefully a bit more healthy and is a whole lot easier to work on... and 17KW more power!!! :D
Hopefully this will leave the car with 103KW and weighing in at about 870KG which is pretty much ideal for this car :) Bring on the sub 1:48's!! (hopefully lol)

Heres the full version ^_^

Hopefully shes back on the road by the end of this week... Im having withdrawal symptoms! :(
In other news, Ive got a few things coming in over the next few days and as soon as its moving again ill start tidying the thing up :)
