  1. yea thats true, gear changes could have been 0.2 sec slower etc i know its only a small difference just thought the exhaust maight have contributed to that slightly since you can no longer feel the toque kick in now. i reckon the temp had something to do with it as well. i think a 17 flat would be a bit far fetched unless i spent big $$ but that would be a waste of money the main thing is that i have fun and when i go i always have fun, i doubt ill do anymore to it CAI wouldnt make a huge difference i dont think.
  2. thanks for the reply guys. im launching at around 2500 rpm doesnt bog down and no wheel spin. my reaction times are quit good and pretty consistent had a best of 0.034 last night but usually around the 0.08 mark. the time before last my quickest run was my first one but the others were very close behind same with last night but my best were the last 2 runs when i really pushed it as far as i could to get the most out of each gear. i have the tickets in the car but the times were fairly consistent went something like 18, 18.1, 18.5, 18.1, 18, 17.9, 17.9 every run i try to do the exact same thing to get the same time well try anyway. its all just good fun but i would like to get to atleast a 17 flat do you reckon a CAI would help along with the exhaust upgrade? i did look and last night was a tad hotter then last time so that may have made a difference. should have bought a zze man haha thats a good time for only a CAI nah im happy with the ZRE but i want it to go a little quicker 15.9 should be achievable i reckon. id like to try stock exhaust with a CAI now but too much stuffing around to change exhaust again.
  3. hey everyone, so lately iv been taking my new zre corolla to the drag strip for a bit of fun, when it was completely stock i got a best of 17.7 sec and i was changing around the 6000 rpm mark but now i have a 2 1/4 inch catback exhaust from the stock resonator, i went again last night and could only get a best of 17.9 but mostly were 18.1 and it had a lot less fuel which inturn would be less weight but i realise it may make no difference what so ever, and the only way i could acheive that figure was to scrap every last rpm from the engine and shift around 6700 rpm but my trap speed is now quicker. if i shifted at 6000 rpm it would get around a 18.5. so has the exhaust made the engine loose some power/torque as on the street i can no longer feel it pull from around 3500/4000 rpm where all the torque is. is the stock exhaust better and do you think a CAI would help to drop the times slightly back to what they were or better? i know im only talking a small amount of time and i know its no performance car but its all good fun and i want it to be atleast running what it did whenit was stock. just curious cheers
  4. just because an engine revs to 8000 rpm doesnt mean its going to be quicker than an engine that cuts out at 6500 rpm i doubt they would actually make much power right up top plus with all the fancy **** these new engine have there better then older (some) ones imo He never said quicker (and if you look at 4AGEs they make power all the way to redline - max power for a blacktop 20V (which fillit used to drive) was at 7,800rpm, for instance), just more life. I agree with him too, whilst the newer Corollas are decent lookers, practical, cheap to run and can be made relatively fun and quick to drive, they do lack a fair chunk of the soul that went into the older ones. Just look at what you had in the 90s that you don't get now - IRS (combined with a potent chassis and excellent brakes), 2-door coupes, quad-throttle 20v engines revving their rings off, supercharger option (in the 101s), race-designed suspension (Superstrut), the list goes on. Corollas these days are designed to be an A-to-B car (well, they always have been to an extent), but fundamental design, spec and style changes means that they will never live up to the reputation of the older models. If your the sort of person who likes what the old models delivered, then chances are the new ones will leave you feeling a little disappointed, flat, and missing that sense of satisfaction, regardless of how practical, comfortable, reliable and cheap they are to own. well thats fair enough to be honest i havent owned a older model and havent driven a car with a 4age i have driven cars that rev to 8k rpm though (swift gti) which is fun but just because a car only revs to 6.5k doesnt mean thats a bad thing. thats the thing with new cars though pretty much all makers are now focusing way too much time on fuel economy and ways to make them cheaper and ride better which does mean they arent going to live up to the older models that did have more of a all round good performance.
  5. just because an engine revs to 8000 rpm doesnt mean its going to be quicker than an engine that cuts out at 6500 rpm i doubt they would actually make much power right up top plus with all the fancy **** these new engine have there better then older (some) ones imo. yea the new corolla could probably use some more torque say from using a 2l instead of the 1.8 but there still fun to drive, you make your car what you want it to be. they may not be a sporty car anymore but they are really not bad for a "family car" make it sporty if thats what you want. not trying to start an argument its just my opinion anyway
  6. it can be a drivers car just dont expect it to be a sports car. with a few simple handling mods and intake if you like it does quit well I think for a family hatchback its no performance/sports car no but you can still have fun with it just look at the few that are tracking theres. well I know the manual is good anyway as thats what I have the auto may be sluggish im not sure. I had a 06 swift which had a baby 1.5l manual it had coilovers and good tires because it handled so well, was grippy and so light it was a hoot to drive There is probably one thing I dont like about my corolla and its not toyota's or the corollas fault its all new cars which are the elctronic throttle (drive by wire) but thats it I love my corolla I really want a wrx always have always will but Im glad I have my ZRE.
  7. You mean the Hotdog? Originally I didnt have the hotdog in place then it was abit too loud for me so i put got the exhaust shop to put it in for me. yea thats it. so you just changed the piping from there back with a muffler on the end? does sound tough, im getting mine done on thurs now as my swaybar is hitting the stock exhaust Yuppp! So i've got a hotdog, 2.25inch catback and a dynomax muffler which is something like a varex. It has a valve with spring so it opens up when I floor the car and closes when I drive normally. sweet cheers for that. cant wait till mine is done tomorrow

  9. sounds nice :) did you leave that big torpedo thing in the middle with the resonator and cat or completly remove it? im looking at getting the exhaust done on mine soon and my exhaust guy said i would only be able to change the exhaust from there back so basically an axle back?
  10. *please read the buy and sell rules*
  11. thanks for your reply. do you know if they are good/if they work? what would be the best place to get one from?
  12. so nobody knows anything about the throttle controllers or has one?
  13. HA HA funny! lol nah i know but there is quit a noticeable amount of lag in the throttle with these stupid electronic T/B I find. I dont know what was wrong with a cable setup, so much more simpler and a million times better, I cant even rev match in this thing yet lol I cant get used to it and Iv heard these throttle controllers help alot?
  14. haha i will dont worry, i have hols soon so i might try and take it in then. went out for a drive this morning and it happened about 6 bloody times, its so annoying, on a brand new car too
  15. Im looking for a throttle controller for my ZRE and was wondering if anyone has one in theres? If so what brand and where did you buy it from? Iv seen the 3 listed in the FAQ topic but I dont know much about them so any help would be appreciated. cheers
  16. ok thanks mate, ill do that and see what they say
  17. no worries, it only happens while changing down gears. No noises and clutch is all the way in and doesnt grind. It doesnt happen every time but quit frequently though. When you go to select second the gear stick will go in about half way then it gets quit firm and only way to get it in gear is to try again
  18. Hey guys Iv got a question about my zre corolla regarding 2nd gear. Its a 2012 car, manual, with about 2700 km on it and when im downshifting gears for a roundabout or traffic lights say and I go to select 2nd it will get prob half way in then it stops like something is stopping it from selecting that gear. Would this be due to it being new and still wearing in or another issue? I figured its because its new but only does it every now and then not everytime you go to selct 2nd and it doesnt do it when your changing up gears. Any ideas? cheers Rhys
  19. fuel eceonomy depends on a number of things. I have a 2012 corolla manual and usually get around 600 km to a tank maybe a tad more if I push it a bit further, thats just cruising everywhere with the odd bootfull every now and then. I use either 95 or 98 fuel instead of the cheap and dreadful 91 octane. Also the more highway driving and the less stop start driving you do the more range you will get, most of my journey to work and back is on the highway and as mentioned above less revs and higher gears reduce fuel consumption just dont labour the engine too much Rhys.
  20. whiteline and pedders have loads of suspension parts
  21. Thats some good responses there, thanks guys. As per the first post, exactly WHY is my question, 20 000 is way too high for a run in period to say no fun till then. I thought it would be fine to give it a flogging now iv had a few high rpm changes but been driving it nicely still as I wasnt sure. Going to and from work is normal driving but i do frequently drive them hard too makes them run better i reckon. they dont use a run in oil anymore anyway the 1000km service is only a check up of everything to see if the parts are working properly. cheers guys, ill go out and open the taps a bit :)
  22. Hey everyone, Iv recently purchased a new zre toyota corolla hatch. Its just over the 1100 km mark had the 1k check up and everything was ok. For the first 1000 km I was careful with the engine and didnt drive it hard (kept revs under 3000 rpm) and all the rest as per the owners manual. My question is, is it ok to now start having some fun with it or is it safer to keep driving it easy as it only has low kms? I dont thrash my cars day in day out I just want to get back to the track ie drag racing and a few track days hear and there, Iv never had a new car so iv never had to run in a new engine. Anywho any help will be greatly appreciated :) Rhys.
  23. Did you get that strut bar second hand or new? Iv been looking around for one but have been told the greddy bar is now discontinued. Dont know where to get one now. get a trd one.. i ordered mine last friday ok sweet cheers for that, ill look into it.
